JUDAS PRIEST TO FINALLY BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK N’ ROLL HALL OF FAME

It’s official, Judas Priest will finally be inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, despite the band placing sixth in the fan vote.

Judas Priest will receive the Musical Excellence Award at the event, which will also honor EminemDolly PartonDuran Duran Lionel RichiePat BenatarEurythmics and Carly Simon in the Performers category.

The award for Musical Excellence — which was originally titled the Sidemen category when it debuted — is given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music…

Judas Priest is the second band to receive the award for Musical Excellence; the E Street Band was the first. Last year, late Ozzy Osbourne and Quitet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads was one of the recipients of the Musical Excellence Award.

The induction ceremony will be held on November 5th 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max. There will also be a radio simulcast on SiriusXM‘s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Radio channel 310.

Judas Priest was previously on the ballot for Rock Hall induction in 2020, but failed to receive enough votes to make that year’s class.

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, Priest was also on the ballot for the 2018 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but was ultimately left out of the inductee list.

Judas Priest recently wrapped up their 50 Heavy Metal Years North American tour on April 13th in Ontario, Canada. The band is currently working on recording their next album and guitarist Glenn Tipton has described it as both “what every fan would want to hear,” as well as, “a bit experimental.”

Ugh, this sounds like the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Sham(e), gave my favorite band, a consolation prize. Judas Priest should have absolutely been inducted as “Performer(s),” as they are the only true rock band on this entire absurd list.

Once again, this imbecilic institution continues to display how elitist, condescending and out of touch they are, so at least they are consistent in their never ending bias.

I agree, that’s exactly what it is – a consolation prize! This honor isn’t good enough for Judas Priest! I’m happy that Pat Benatar is FINALLY getting the recognition that she so rightfully deserves, and a few of the others (except for that rapper – are you kidding me?) But JP should’ve received the highest honor, not just a consolation prize!

      Hi Dana

      Are you really surprised?

Many moons ago, I emailed Eddie and suggested that he start his own HOF. I suggested that for each induction ceremony, a percentage of the ticket revenue could go to the Ronnie James Dio cancer charity. (We could also include the Mr Holland’s charity in honour of EVH too).

If I remember rightly, Eddie said that the cost of things was a big issue. I don’t know how things have changed since I first suggested this (probably around ten years ago, given that Ronnie has been gone almost eleven) but do you think that there’s any chance that this could be a possibility now?

There certainly wouldn’t need to be a physical building; it could all be done virtually. I admit that I don’t know anything about how this sort of thing could work or indeed what the starting costs would be, but could this be the time to start looking?

I did say back then that if this went ahead I’d like to be the one that inducted Black Sabbath; but that’s just the fanboy in me who hasn’t got a hope in hell! (Nor with Priest or Metallica either!)

By the way, how’s mum (or mom as you say that side of the pond) doing?

    • Dana on

      Hi my friend,

I can mention it to Eddie, but my feeling is, he is way to busy traversing the country, to have the time to even set it up, even virtually. Plus, there is the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, which takes the place of Rock N’ Roll Hall of Shame.

Also, thank you for asking about, as you say, my Mum. She is only six weeks out from her brain bleed, so unfortunately, she is still immobile on her right side.

      Kisses from across the pond.

Now the question will be whether JP gets to play at least one song, cause last year Randy just got a video (understandable he no longer with us) but thats all LL got to perform and others. The rock hall hates Metal, God only knows what they’ll get. They should just change the name to the Music Hall and the idiot in charge should change his name to not the Real John Sykes.

Rock Hall honors is not metal like Dickinson says it’s a museum and Metal is not dead, not by a long shot.

    • Dana on

Maybe, they will let them do a medley? Or they will have some other awful bands performing their songs?

I have always said they should just take the Rock N’ Roll title out of their name, but for some reason, they keep hanging on to it-LOL!

I don’t consider it an induction in the crap hall, but Dolly, and that crappy candy imitation, get in as performers? None who have performed an ounce of rock.

I am happy for Pat, but long overdue. She should have gone in before Stevie (hideous voice) Nicks, in my opinion .Christine McVie sings hell a lot better.
Priest probably get less air time on the show than LL cool J

What’s next? They secretly shorten the time inducted and induct Billy Eyelash (not a typo Dana)? Screw the hall, we don’t need your booby prize

    • Dana on

      Charles,

Perfectly written and I could not agree with you more about Stevie “Goat vibrato” Nicks.

I never got her appeal, never will and find her SO overrated. I think part of why she was, and is, so fawned over, is because, many people think she was, and is, pretty. I also agree with you that McVie has the far better singing voice.

Finally, I agree Benatar should have inducted a long time ago, alongside Judas Priest.

Come on Dana, you know Lionel Richie is more rock and roll than Judas Priest! I’m kidding. I think, based on the Hall’s definition, Dolly and Priest should switch categories. But, no one is going to remember what “category” Priest got in on, people will just know they are Hall of Famers! So it is still a day of celebration!

  • Rattlehead on

“Performer Category”?? Is that another name for a “Participation Award”??

Regardless, it’s about time Judas Priest got into the RRHOF….after all, they were the very first heavy metal band, IMO.

Hopefully this induction mends some fences between the band members and KK Downing….well enough for KK to resume his rightful place in the band.

  • Michael Minutaglio on

Ok, what have The Eurythmics done that warrants a HOF induction? One HUGE song (Sweet Dreams) and just a small handful of minor hits. Felt the same way last year with The Go-Go’s…they have like 4 songs that were hits. Your telling me they have sold more albums and influenced more people than Iron Maiden and Priest? Highly doubtful. So someone PLEASE tell me why The Eurythmics are going in?????

    • Dana on

      Michael,

I have no clue why they were inducted, nor why rappers are even included? Is that because they sample tons of rock music??

Also, unlike the Go-Go’s, whom I happen to love, The Eurythmics are NOT rock. The Gos-Gos, who actually started out as a punk band, and morphed into a surfer rock (yes rock) pop band, at least have a rock-ish spine. The Eurythmics? They have an electronica/keyboard spine.

The Rock Hall’s lists get more, and more, preposterous every year, and sadly, it’s to be expected.
