JUDAS PRIEST TO FINALLY BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK N’ ROLL HALL OF FAME

It’s official, Judas Priest will finally be inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, despite the band placing sixth in the fan vote.

Judas Priest will receive the Musical Excellence Award at the event, which will also honor EminemDolly PartonDuran Duran Lionel RichiePat BenatarEurythmics and Carly Simon in the Performers category.

The award for Musical Excellence — which was originally titled the Sidemen category when it debuted — is given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music…

Judas Priest is the second band to receive the award for Musical Excellence; the E Street Band was the first. Last year, late Ozzy Osbourne and Quitet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads was one of the recipients of the Musical Excellence Award.

According to the Hall Of Fame, Judas Priest members that will get inducted include current members Rob Halford (vocals),Ian Hill (bass),Glenn Tipton (guitar) and Scott Travis (drums),along with former members K.K. Downing (guitar),Les Binks (drums) and late drummer Dave Holland.

“Wow, this is so exciting — at last. At last, you know?” Halford told Billboard after receiving the news before the public announcement. “And, glory hallelujah, there’s another metal band in the Hall Of Fame. That’s the blessing we’ve all been waiting for.”

The induction ceremony will be held on November 5th 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max. There will also be a radio simulcast on SiriusXM‘s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Radio channel 310.

Judas Priest was previously on the ballot for Rock Hall induction in 2020, but failed to receive enough votes to make that year’s class.

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, Priest was also on the ballot for the 2018 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but was ultimately left out of the inductee list.

Judas Priest recently wrapped up their 50 Heavy Metal Years North American tour on April 13th in Ontario, Canada. The band is currently working on recording their next album and guitarist Glenn Tipton has described it as both “what every fan would want to hear,” as well as, “a bit experimental.”

Is the RRHOF giving out participation trophies now? 14 inductees in one class? Whether this artist or that artist is deserving of induction, or this artist or that artist isn’t rock and roll is irrelevant at this point. That ship sailed a long time ago. Do the ballot votes matter anymore? Are they even counted to begin with? How do we know, since there’s no transparency from the RRHOF? Seems like it’s just a committee of who knows who that determines who’ll be inducted. Perhaps that’s how it’s been all along. Let’s select the artists that will help sell tickets to fill the venue where the induction ceremony will be held. Don’t give Tom Morello too much credit for Priest finally getting into the RRHOF. Eddie Trunk is better off using the ballot he receives every year as toilet paper. Too bad they didn’t include Iron Maiden. The boys from across the pond will be touring the States later this year.

      Great comment, Medved,

]I agree, the voting is probably all for optics.

It’s the same in for my mother’s co-op in Manhattan. It has been the same board, year after year, with an occasional changing of the “alernates.” If the President likes you, and feels you will bend the kneww, you can be an “alternate.” It’s all rigged, the shareholders votes mean nothing, and there is no impartial third party present during voting. Since, as you stated regarding the rock hall, there is no transparency, and we know why, it is all likelihood the votes are not even being counted, or done as mere fodder.

And here’s another thing I’ll add to my original comment. This is from the RRHOF web site announcing the new inductees:

“It’s a diverse group of extremely talented individuals and bands who have had a significant impact and influence on rock & roll, the music that connects us all.”

The word “diverse”. That’s going to be the most significant, and perhaps only, criteria moving forward as to who gets selected for induction. It’s not about talent. It’s not about significant impact or influence. It’s all about “diversity” now, which is today’s wokeness doctrine.

Dana: Goat Vibrato LOL… never liked Stevie Nicks. Fleetwood Mac was great with Peter Green.

      Hi Mr. Rock and Roll,

I cannot take credit for that, that was my fiancee’s description of her vocals. I always called her Machine Gun Stevie. It is quite ironic, because we now have a rapper named, Machine Gun Kelly, who played Tommy Lee in The Dirt movie, so it has come full circle-LOL!

I like a few Stevie Nicks songs. Yes she is overrated as a singer. However she does write all her own songs (mostly) instead of Joan Jett who pretty much piggybacked off others her whole career by doing covers. Also if I were Judas Priest I would absolutely reject their second-tier “award”.

      Hi Jeff,

I agree that the mighty Priest should tell the Rock Hall to “sod off.” However, I believe they are just so honored to finally be inducted, that they will gladly, and gracefully, accept the nomination.

As for Nicks writing her own songs, who knows? My fiancee is a recording engineer, and if an artist works with a writing partner, or a producer, the rule of thumb is “change a word, get a third.” plus many get co-writing credits, without really doing much.

The RRHOF continue to act like a bunch of wankers. Insulting to not fully induct them.

I have mixed feelings.. the hall is at this point a sham -and to me as a fan having no faith in it as an institution gives me no fan pride that they finally have been allowed in I’m actually pissed they won’t play???… but they seem to be very excited about it so I’m happy for them especially KK! If Eddie put his mind to it and had the time , and was able to get the most respected industry people involved, start up costs could be fairly low and under control hall rental not so bad- camera men at least 3 pros and proper sound would be the largest expense , hall would have to hold at least 3 thousand and tickets priced at least 100 bucks , of course inducted bands would have to perform free , no food served just an open bar , you have to factor in floating insurance for the night not to pricey.. and the Hall of Rock could actually be ?
