MALCOLM YOUNG’S FAMILY CONFIMS THAT THE GUITARIST HAS DEMENTIA

ACDC Malcolm Young Germany 1992 31 People Magazine reports that Malcolm Young’s family has confirmed news that the AC/DC guitarist is suffering from dementia.

“Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy,” his family said in a statement to People.

A Young family connection said: “If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory. His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.”

In April, the group announced that Young was taking a break due to ill health.

AC/DC have announced that their new album, Rock Or Bust, will be released on December 2nd. Read more about the release here.

I hope AC/DC donates some money to dementia research. Maybe start a charity like Wendy Dio did where fans can donate and get a shirt or something.

That is a good idea Randy.

AC/DC has been so much a part of my life that it hurts to hear this news. I will NEVER forget the first day I dropped that needle on “Sin City” from Powerage, changed by life. Be well Malcom, you rock it man!!

All we can do now is keep Malcolm and his family in our thoughts and prayers and respect the privacy they are asking for. And we need to show our love and support for the guys in AC/DC because this has to be a heartbreaking and difficult time for them and I can only imagine how sad it makes them to have to move forward without Malcolm. And I am saying prayers for Angus because I’m sure he’s taking this situation very hard. After all, that’s not just his bandmate going through this it’s his big brother. I love AC/DC, have ever since I heard my first AC/DC album, which was Powerage. When their new album is released, I’ll be there the first day to buy it and when they tour, I’ll be at their concert and rocking out to the greatest rock band of all time.

Serious bummer. Even though Angus gets the spot light, Malcolm is truly a rock n roll icon

While this is so painful for me, I think on how much joy this man has helped to spread for so long. While this type of illness happens, though, all you can see is the pain if this a member of your family. My stepfather died of the same very rare brain illness that affected the actor Dudley Moore. He went from falling to not being able to stop himself from getting up and walking through glass doors. No one knew what he even had until a few months before he left us and there is still no treatment. This was 20 years ago. He was only 64. I’ll go see them for Malcolm and for the others in the band feeling that pain that some of you also know so well. Let’s all pray for Malcolm and his family.
