ANTHRAX GUITARIST SCOTT IAN DEFENDS KISS’ DECISION NOT TO PLAY AT THE ROCK N’ ROLL HALL OF FAME CEREMONY

scottian650 According to blabbermouth.net, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has defended KISS’ Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for their announcement that no members of KISS will be playing at the April 10th Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn.

Speaking to Rover’s Morning Glory, a syndicated hot-talk/comedy radio show airing weekday mornings on Cleveland rock station WMMS (100.7 FM), Ian joked, “Look, I’ve got Gene Simmons tattooed on my leg, so whatever Gene says is what goes.”

He continued, “I’m a [KISS] fan, just like everyone else, and would I wanna see, if I was going… I’m not going to the Hall Of Fame thing, so would I wanna see the four original dudes back in makeup one more time? Of course I would, as a fan. But bands don’t do things dictated by what the audience wants. A band would last about a year if that’s how you worked. You have to do things the way you wanna do them.

KISS has been around for 40 years and are bigger now than they were in 1977 because Gene and Paul make smart decisions — that’s why. So, as a fan, and if you love them, you have to abide by the decisions that Gene and Paul are making for their brand and their band. So, why people get so upset over these things, I really don’t understand. Like, if they decided they were playing with [current KISS members] Tommy [Thayer, guitar] and Eric [Singer, drums], so fine. That’s what they’re doing. This is their band. This has been the lineup for a long time now.

I get it — those two guys [Tommy and Eric] aren’t the guys who are getting into the Hall Of Fame [with Paul and Gene], it’s Ace and Peter… you know, I get it. So I think they made the right decision now by saying, ‘We’re just not gonna play. You can’t please everybody. We’re just gonna shut it down and just not do it.’ I get it. I understand.”

I doubt assaulting Eddie is going to cover the truth Gene and Paul don’t want to answer the hard questions. They do not feel their metal band( their at least hard rock) but white whale please I’m sure Eddie is no Ahab. I am not ashamed to be a Kiss fan and understand Gene is Gene. But enough is enough if u can ‘t bring ur A game it time to call it quits before all the loyal fans diss appear

Is this 40th Anniversary tour for real? Is it the package with Leppard and Poison? Sad.
I just see them slowly circling the drain. Do you think Gene and Paul have real discussions about the end of it? Is there a plan? I agree with other postings, I kinda thought they would announce the end at the ceremony when they played. But now they’re not playing HOF and there’s a Summer tour with major support on board. Have they seen video of themselves onstage lately? It ain’t pretty.

Give up what exactly? Having an opinion?? Why does it matter if I like what Kiss does now? The impersonation act is not for me. Why is that so hard to handle for some? It’s okay if you like it. Same ole Ace and Peter bias BS which is hysterical is you had any clue of my support for 30 years of ALL ERAS of Kiss. I’m the guy so bias for Peter I dedicated my first book to Eric Carr. And so bias for Ace that Bruce is a friend and had him on TMS and my radio shows. But of course that’s the easy tag line when you just don’t know the history..

Guys you do realize realize KISS is OLD right??? You guys are sitting here arguing bitterly about 60+ year old men (and I’m including the original lineup here as well). I like them a lot too, but enough already, who cares? Its a BAND, and in this case its a band well past their prime (reunion or not). Aerosmith is well past their prime too. For whatever reason it didn’t work out with Ace and Peter so they decided to do their own thing with Tommy and Eric. I guess I would be real concerned with this if I was 8 years old, but I am not, and I realize that KISS are gonna do what pays the bills.

As for the silly arguments on whether KISS is “bigger than ever”, again its all relative. All you people complaining about KISS co-headlining shed’s/arena don’t seem to be bothered that Aerosmith does the same thing quite often, so do many bands. Fact is, they still do quite well for as long as they’ve been in the picture. For those critiquing, I would like to see any of you guys create a band in the 70’s and have the amount of success they still do to this day. Doubt you could do it, and no I’m not a “KISS NERD DEFENDER” or anything, I like them, they’ve made bad and good decisions along the way, I just think some of you guys over analyze things and call them out on silly stuff that’s not that important or even accurate.

This is the most logical and rational post that has been made on this site since all the KISS posts started. It’s also the most sane. Thanks Eric. Nobody else will care. But I do Dude.

“Kiss is bigger now than they were in 1977” False. Your getting called out on this one Scott. Everyone knows Kiss was always bigger when Ace and Peter were in the Band, FACT!
