Ok StatenIslandClown…time to chime in about another bad move by Priest.
James I have said everything, I would just be reiterating. There’s some good to very good material, there’s some mediocre material, but pervading the whole is this malaise. You take an album like “Ram It Down,” not one of their best, but they performed it with so much panache that it was undeniably a Priest experience. Oh my, how Elvis has left the bldg.
They used a drum machine on “Ram it Down,” and had so much gusto it still worked!
That’s not a very nice thing to say about Dave Holland.
DR, that’s not Dave, who is one of the catchiest drummers ever, it really is a drum machine, I was not being sarcastic.
Clown, Holland was the worst drummer Priest ever had.
You must not have been paying attention to his hi hat work….and live he’s the best they ever had.
Drumming is more than just technique, there is sound painting..augmenting a lyric with a drum fill that helps tell the story. Holland is one of the only drummers in metal I have ever heard do this. So, he is an artful drummer then: “Fever,” “Devil’s Child,” the “thunder” in “Desert Plains.” Travis is actually one of the most boring drummers…there, I said it. The first Fight and Demolition are his best performances…That “Painkiller” record was written before Scott joined..i.e. it was written on a drum machine.
You wanna talk metal drummers,, Clive Burr was the best.
He was a talented drummer but the subject of his legal issues cast a dark cloud over any and all accomplishments. You can come back from murder, dog fighting and drug dealing but not that.
And Les Binks was the best.
I’m glad you brought that up Richman, you’re right. What’s the world coming to?
The. Catchiest drummer ever has to be Charlie Watt or Watts. I forget but you know who I mean.
Ok James…one more…that freaking auto tune machine Rob sings through now…I can’t listen to it. Flanger, delay, that was fine, it was still his organic signal coming through…this…he sounds like a robot.
Just curious, what do you think of the Halford albums??
Second rate Priest.
Resurrection is one of the best albums Halford has ever done in or out of Priest.
The first Fight and Deomolition. That’s it for me.
For a TURBO fan, somewhat TURBO-esque.
Turbo is not a good, but great album. Priest went all in, that’s what sets them apart from any other metal band.
Whatever. Thank god for your wisdom.
I just might go meet those 3 guys. I’m off the next 2 weeks and I’ll be home that day. Maybe I can meet PRIEST and then go to a METS game. Yeah that’s the ticket. I’ll see you guys over there.
