Anthems, Anthrax’s long-awaited, eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of Anthrax’s favorite bands from the 1970s, will be released in North America on March 19th (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22nd in Europe (Nuclear Blast).

Anthems‘ track listing features Rush’s Anthem, Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak, TNT by AC/DC, Boston’s Smokin’, Big Eyes by Cheap Trick, Journey’s Keep on Runnin,” as well as the album version and a special remix of Anthrax’s Crawl from the band’s critically-acclaimed 2011 album Worship Music.

Said the band’s vocalist Joey Belladonna, “These are all bands I grew up with and have listened to forever. It’s just great music. I had fun singing these songs and I was happy recording together with Anthrax, doing classic rock songs. Fun stuff!”

On Boston’s Smokin’, Anthrax brought in a special guest to play keyboards – Fred Mandel, who has played with Alice Cooper, Queen, Elton John, Cheap Trick, Supertramp and on Pink Floyd’s The Wall. About the track, drummer Charlie Benante said, “If ever there were a perfect first album, it’s Boston’s first album. The harmony leads they did would later be heard by Iron Maiden, which of course would lead to thrash metal.”

The EP will be available on CD as well as digitally via iTunes and other online retailers. In addition to Anthems‘ cover art, Benante and artist Stephen Thompson have subtly redesigned each track’s original album cover art to “Anthrax” it. The Anthems EP will first be housed in one of the “re-imagined” digipak covers, and then inserted inside the main CD cover sleeve. The main cover sleeve has been designed in such a way so fans will be able to see which one of the six “re-imagined” covers is inside.

Anthems was produced by Anthrax, Jay Ruston and former guitarist Rob Caggiano, and recorded for the most part throughout 2012 literally all over the world: at Benante’s home studio, in Ruston’s New York studio, on the band’s tour bus while on last summer’s Mayhem Tour, in hotel rooms, and backstage at their Berlin show last December.

The Grammy-nominated Anthrax – Belladonna, Benate/drums, Scott Ian/guitar and Frank Bello/bass – will hit the road in support Anthems on February 16th with dates in India and Australia, and then return to North America to headline the Metal Alliance Tour that begins on March 22nd. For all of these dates, Anthrax will be joined by Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais.

The event, which is sponsored by Epiphone and Monster Energy Drink, will take place at The Grove in Anaheim, California, January 24 during 2013 Winter NAMM weekend. However, unlike the rest of NAMM, the Roast is open to the public, and it also will air live on AXS TV at midnight ET (9 p.m. PT).

Jose Mangin (of Sirius/XM and Headbanger’s Ball fame) will be on hand to serve as the evening’s DJ.

His autobiography, Shut Up and Give Me the Mic, was released in the summer of 2012, and Dee returns to the small screen in March 2013 as part of the cast of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice.

Christian hard rocker Stryper have just announced that they have signed a deal with Frontiers Records.

Their first release will be a new re-recorded collection called, Second Coming, featuring classic Stryper songs like Free, Soldiers Under Command and Calling on You, and will be released on March 26th. Aside from the older songs, Second Coming will also feature two new tracks.

Stryper frontman Michael Sweet commented, “We’re really excited about this record. The re-recorded songs are sounding awesome…better than the originals in many ways! One word to describe the record? Heavier. We’ve hooked up with some great people – we’ve got new management, a great album, a great label. We just feel like everything is coming together, and hopefully some big things are to follow.” Sweet also produced the album.

ALICEINCHAINS Publicity Pic credit Dave MaAs they gear up for the spring release of their much-anticipated new album, multi-platinum rock band ALICE IN CHAINS have announced a North American tour set to kick off April 25th at the Fillmore in Miami Beach (see itinerary below).

This past Thursday, the band teamed with VEVO to premiere the official companion clip for new track “Hollow.” Shot by award-winning director Roboshobo (Metallica, Mastodon, GreenDay), the hypnotically mind-trippy “Hollow” captures a man closed off and losing himself in an empty repetition of daily tasks until his last thread with reality is completely severed. The video can be seen at and the song, which hit the top 10 on the iTunes Rock Chart, is available at

The video follows the recent release of a “Hollow” lyric clip that was created by fans and comprised of images submitted through Instagram.

Set for a spring 2013 release, Alice In Chains’ upcoming album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FooFighters, Deftones), who also produced the band’s hugely successful 2009 release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE. That album entered Billboard’s Top 200 at No. 5, sold over one million copies, spawned two No. 1 hit singles (“Check My Brain” and “Your Decision”) and a third (“Lesson Learned”) that went top 10, earned two Grammy nominations and saw the band (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez) headlining a sold-out international tour that wrapped at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Cantrell said, “In my opinion, that record stood up to anything else we’ve put out in our career. Hopefully, the new album will connect with people in the same way.”

6_r176113Brian Tichy says he left Whitesnake because life’s too short to remain in someone else’s band, according to

He announced his departure last week, explaining he wanted to concentrate on new outfit S.U.N. with Sass Jordan. Now he’s gone into more detail.

Tichy says: “The change of musicians in bands is nothing new. My idols left this band too. But I do think my reason is a little different than the others.

“Life is short. Each year is a solid chunk of time to hopefully get closer to all the things you have thought of attempting to achieve throughout your whole life.

“I’ve always played guitar. I’ve always written music. I’ve always wanted to be in my band! I have a new band, S.U.N., that I am beyond proud of. Sass is also as passionate about music and our band as I am.

“I’d like to think we made a record that will hold its own next to anything. How will I know if I am right or wrong if I just talk-talk-talk about it? I’ve got to live it – or else I might as well just call it ‘a cute little project I do if I have free time.

“I can’t give it its fair shot if I am giving Whitesnake 100%.”

Tichy records his gratitude to David Coverdale, saying: “I owe David a bit fat ‘thank you’ for allowing me to be myself in his band. The man simply told me to play how I play and make his band and its music sound like a kick-a-s rock’n’roll freight train.

“He trusted me. He trusted that after having Paice, Powell, Dunbar, Aldridge and Frazier – some of the world’s best drummers – I could be the guy to get the job done.

“I also thank him for treating his band with complete respect and always being open to tell stories and answer questions. You learn a lot from a guy like that when you shut up and listen.”

Tichy broke his collarbone in a mountain bike accident at the end of December, leading to surgery on January 1, from which he’s still recovering. He says that didn’t influence his decision to leave Whitesnake, although it did help him focus on whether his reasoning was right.

He adds that lessons learned from Coverdale was one of the key factors in his decision: “I owe David thanks for clearly letting me see that if you want something, you better at least try to get it. I am going to try.

“It would be pretty bada-s – as I told David – if down the road, he can see me and say, ‘Damn, Tichy went for it and did it.’ I intend on making David proud, proving lots to myself and getting S.U.N. out there and making a dent.”

Whitesnake bassist Michael Devin is also a member of S.U.N. but will remain with Coverdale’s outfit.
