12/2: YEAR END SPECIALS REVEALED, JAKE E LEE, BOOKS, COVERDALE PODCAST, MORE

Thanks to the over 10,000 who voted in the poll for my year end radio specials. I thought this year I would do something different and spotlight music of the 3 most requested bands by you guys during 3 shows in December. I’ll do the annual Year In Review show with all music released in 2014 as usual as well. This show is so important in this day and age when so much good new rock and metal is out and so little gets sold and supported. So you will hopefully discover stuff you missed. Obviously I can’t play it all but I get in what I can and what I dealt with in the year in 3 hours. Remember my FM radio show debuts every Friday night 11P ET on Q104.3 NYC and WAAF Boston. Both stations stream free as well. Q104.3 via the iHeartradio app or at www.q1043.com and WAAF at www.waaf.com . Full list of stations to hear the show on this site over the weekend as well as online outlets. The top 3 vote getting bands were Kiss, Rush and Iron Maiden, so those will be the special editions. Van Halen was close but just missed. Kiss was trailing but made a late surge to get the #1 amount of votes so the Kissmas Special I have been doing since 1990 lives on! The schedule for the shows will be 12/12 weekend all Maiden, 12/19 all Kiss, 12/26 all Rush, 1/2 Year In Review.

Had a truly interesting and in depth interview with Jake E Lee yesterday. Jake is back on the road with Red Dragon Cartel and has his former Badlands bassist Greg Chaison now in the band. Was sorry to see Ron Mancuso go. He is a friend and was my link to connecting with Jake. he also played a huge role in bringing Jake back and making the album. But Jake seems very happy with the band now and also seems to be a bit more engaged and committed to it. I asked him some real tough questions and he was totally honest. It is really rare to be able to get as in depth with an artist as I did yesterday and get such honest answers. I’ve known him for a while now and it was interesting to learn some new stuff in our over two hour chat about his time in Ozzy, what really happened to Badlands and Ray Gillen, and of course where he is at now. I’ll share the interview with those that didn’t hear it via my podcast in a few weeks. I’ll be hosting RDC in NJ this Friday at Mexicali in Teaneck. Thanks to Jake and Greg for coming in.

Thanks to all who placed orders for signed copies of my books. I will ship them ASAP so you have them for the holidays. Be sure to order now if you’d like to have one or give one as a gift. No comment’s?

    • William Funk on

No comments left because it is easier to sign up for Obama care than trying to leave a comment on ET. This site has gone down hill signing up to leave a comment I feel like I am being watched now by big brother. Eddie whats up with the background check just to leave a comment??? your destroying this site!

    • Eddie on

Not sure what you are referring to but many members requested a sign in of some sort to manage and deal with pure haters, etc.

    • William Funk on

My point was the what made ET great were the posts! Love em or hate them everyone loved to read them and get involved. Many members who requested a sign in your referring too count for about 11 people, Now since this new sign in has failed can we go back to the way things were and get the 100 or so people per post ET usually averages back Eddie?

    • David C on

Well, you figured it out William, so it can’t be that difficult now can it? I’m one of the ones who requested the new format, not shy about, and make no apologies. The haters on here were getting ridiculous and I’m glad they are gone. I don’t mind good debate and disagreement but over the last month or so it was a joke.

It took all of two seconds to register. People get really brave behind a keyboard and I applaud Mr.Trunk and crew for at least making people make the effort sign up before posting. Anyone who has a problem signing up for a website apparently don’t want to be held accountable for anything they say. With speech comes responsibility and if someone wouldn’t say it to another person’s face, it shouldn’t be said. Love the new superior format.

I am really enjoying Jake E. Lee making somewhat of a comeback. Interesting stuff regarding Badlands and some of the stuff with Ozzy. I used to be a big Ozzy fan but the last decade or so has destroyed my fandom. I just don’t think the music is that great anymore and I have always found it ironic that Sharon fought hard to get Ozzy the royalities he richly deserved from his years in Sabbath when he and the rest of the band were screwed over, yet the Osbournes frankly have largely done the same things to Ozzy solo band members.

No disrespect to Jake, but I don’t think he needs to worry about $haron suing him. $haron won’t go through the trouble of it, knowing there won’t be any financial windfall in it for her.

  • Doug R. on

Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad! Not a big Maiden fan, was hoping VH was going to pull it out, maybe next year! Hey Eddie, also maybe next year how about adding Motley & The Scorpions to the ballot? The more the merrier! πŸ˜‰

    • Doug R. on

I’m still pissed Aerosmith came in last in the poll! Anyway, here’s my list of Aerosmith’s top 5 albums.

      5) Done With Mirrors
      4) Live! Bootleg
      3) Rocks
      2) Toys In The Attic
      1) Get Your Wings

      (Top 3 fluctuate, LOL!) πŸ™‚

    • Eddie on

      I am too! Ha

    • David C on

Lol, I’m pissed because AC/DC didn’t make it. That’s ok though…new album out in the US today, tour next year. Life is good…!

    • Keith Mortenson on

Lmao!! When I first read (top 3 fluctuate) I thought it said flactulate! I think Done With Mirrors is very underated.

    • Doug R. on

LOL! FLATULATE! LOL! Agree 100% Keith, Done With Mirrors is VERY underrated! FLATULATE, LMFAO! πŸ˜‰

    • James K. on

Doug, great choices. I know it isn’t recognized that much because it doesn’t have the original band on it, but I’ve always liked NIGHT IN THE RUTS.

    • Doug R. on

Thanks James, Night In The Ruts would be my #6! πŸ™‚

    • MetalRob67 on

Wow, it’s cool to see that Done With Mirrors is on someone’s top 5 list. I thought I was the only person who loved that album. I saw them on that tour as well, that wasn’t so great to be honest, they seemed really bored on stage so we got bored in the audience.

    • Jerrold Rosenberg on

      I voted for them too.
      No love for Pump?

  • Ken Davis on

    Eddie,

I mean no disrespect at all. Just my opinion here. I love your radio show and That Metal Show as well, but I have to say it. I liked Kiss for a long time, but in my eyes they are no longer relevant. I saw them live this past summer with Def Leppard and they gone blown away by DL. I have really not been a fan of the group since the whole thing with Ace and Peter leaving the group, going back, and then leaving for good. I really don’t understand the continued fascination with them. Gene is a major A-Hole and I cant stand to hear him open his mouth anymore. Paul just seems to be a puppet for Gene these days and just regurgitates whatever Gene says. On top of that, they have not released anything new since Monster (correct me if I am wrong), and I didn’t like anything on that album.

All of that being said, I support you 100% in everything you do otherwise and am a huge fan. Please keep doing what you do to support hard rock and metal. I have all of the respect in the world for you for the level of promotion you do for my favorite forms of rock. Thank you!

    • Eddie on

Ken, in case you haven’t been following along I no longer go to see Kiss and haven’t in over 10 years. I am a Kiss fan but not of what they currently do. You also have it very wrong about Paul being controlled by Gene. A mistake many make. Paul runs the show these days and has for a while. It is actually quite opposite. I assume you are writing because of the annual all Kiss special? I have been doing that since 1990. I left it to a fan vote and I am good to my word and the 3 bands that won are getting the specials. Thanks

    • David C on

Hey Eddie, just curious…is the fact that you don’t go see KISS more related to the way they sound now or that they have different musicians who play the same “characters” that Ace and Peter did when they were in the band?

I am serious about this question, because so many bands have rotating members it never seems to be a big deal. Like I’ve said before, I have never been a huge KISS fan so it’s kind of puzzling to me why the emotions about this seem to run so deep since different members in bands is a common thing.

    • Eddie on

Different members in bands is common and I have no issue with it as long as that member is their own person and not impersonating someone else. My issue with Kiss is not the fact they have different members, I liked all eras of the band. But that they are impersonating, acting, dressing and playing like what someone else created. Would it be okay if AC/DC lost Angus and put someone else as the schoolboy? It is a MAJOR difference between that and having new members. And I don’t blame Tommy and Eric. They take their orders from above. But I can’t look at it. Throw in the loss of Paul’s voice and I checked out about 10 years ago. But still a fan of most of the bands history and still play them. I have explained this many times and it usually gets twisted into me having some agenda which is sad and just baseless since I liked all eras of the band. Thanks

    • David C on

Thanks, your explanation makes sense. Lol, I can’t imagine anyone else ever being Angus in the schoolboy outfit but with all of the tribute bands out there they would be lined up at the door!

    • Doug R. on

Excellent explanation Eddie, (say that fast 5 times in a row, LOL!) I couldn’t have said it better myself! 1 ACE, 1 PETER, 1 TOMMY, 1 ERIC, and 1 ANGUS! LOL! πŸ˜‰

    • Jerrold on

The last time I saw Kiss was when they played with Aerosmith. They are my two all time favorite bands, so I had to see it even without Ace. At least Peter was with them at that point. So that is as close as I’d ever get to seeing the two together on the same bill.

Nothing at all against Peter Criss, but the funniest thing about them now is how Eric had to tone down his drumming skills a few notches to resemble Peter’s playing. Watch Eric during the “Revenge” tour and then watch him now. He was amazing during “Revenge”.

  • Rattlehead on

Happy to see Greg Chaison back making music. Great bass riffs with Surgical Steel back in the day. Had opportunity to see him a couple of times with Steeler and the man knows how to rock and put on a great show.
