DRUMMER SCOT COOGAN SET TO TOUR WITH ORIGINAL KISS GUITARIST ACE FREHLEY

Acefrehley400 On August 30th, KISS Night in Las Vegas III, an annual event that celebrates the music of KISS and benefits the Imagine Foundation, a non-profit corporation created to help fund music and art programs in Clark County Schools, was a huge success. A record breaking amount of donations were received and a capacity crowd packed Count’s Vamp’d, a popular Las Vegas rock bar, restaurant and venue.

During the festivities, Las Vegas based drummer and vocalist, Scot Coogan, announced his KISS related news: Coogan will be returning to the Ace Frehley band this fall, along with The Cult’s Chris Wyse, to support Frehley’s new album, Space Invader, which debuted at number nine on the Billboard Charts, selling over 20,000 copies in the first week of release. “I consider Ace a friend, and I will always be his drummer. When he called me last week about doing shows, I was honored. We are both excited to have the chance to play together once again.”

In 2012, Coogan took a break after six years from his drummer/lead vocalist duties with Frehley to focus on other projects. After touring with Lynch Mob and recording the critically acclaimed Sound Mountain Sessions, Coogan was recruited to drum for Lita Ford on the 2012 Rock of Ages tour with Def Leppard and Poison.

Coogan relocated to Las Vegas in January 2013, after being offered a position as Music Director and Rock Star Counselor at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. Scot instructed Rock Star for a Day sessions, Corporate Events and Fantasy Camps, most notably last November’s Modern Drummer sponsored Camp.

After an introduction in 2013 at Count’s Vamp’d, renowned Blue Man Group drummer Jeff Tortora gave Coogan the rare opportunity to drum for his avant-garde band, Tinnitus! After this performance, Coogan was recommended for an audition with Blue Man Group. As fate would have it, he landed this coveted gig and by July 2014, Coogan began performing at Blue Man Group Las Vegas, inside the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino.

Coogan has spent much of the past year establishing himself in the Las Vegas entertainment and music communities. He is now a regular on red carpets around town, performs steadily on the strip and at local venues. His reputation as a top notch session drummer proceeded him from Los Angeles and over the past year, Coogan has recorded dozens of original drum tracks for producers including seven time Grammy Award Winner Steve Thompson, Bobby Ferrari and Mike Varney.

Even with Ace Frehley tour dates on the horizon, Coogan will continue to perform with Blue Man Group and other local artists. Coogan is proud to consider Las Vegas his base of operations and home to his recording studio and production company, Break A Stick. He is securing a Las Vegas residency for his successful Led Zeppelin cover band, 6 Foot Nurse, in which he sings like Robert Plant and drums like John Bonham, concurrently.

Coogan also has a new album coming out on September 16th, the self-titled release, Red Zone Rider, a three piece band, featuring guitar hero Vinnie Moore from UFO and MSG’s Kelly Keeling.

  1. Frank Rizzo says:

I am hopeful that Ace’s upcoming live shows can match the incredible awesomeness of the greatest Ace Frehley record to date Space Invada!

    • Oh, uh, Frank–its actually called Space InvadER–with an ER an the end. Sounds better that way too. All joking aside though, I think he WILL kick some butt onstage.

  2. Thats great news. Scot is awesome!

  3. What’s with all the “Rider” bands?

  4. what happened to Matt Starr..?

  5. talktopete says:

Nice commercial for Coogan. Thanks for posting his resume’ . This article read like a press release that came through a fax machine.

  6. This is just more great awesome news. This just might be what he needs to go out and do some shows. I hope he can do stops in texas or louisiana.I will once again support ace but no longer kiss in their current lineup.again congrats to ace frehley

    • Do you not like KISS or just upset because they have different members like many other bands. I saw them 2 weeks ago here in Indy. You are missing a great show.

    • You are missing out, they were INCREDIBLE in St Louis, and I’ve seen them since the 70s

      • Eric Heaton says:

Kiss came here (burgettstown, pa) last sunday….I did not attend but spoke to a few who did…from what I was told, pauls voice was very good and the show was ok, pretty much going thru the motions…As for Ace, I seen the rocket ride tour and it was good…

  7. who played lumpy on leave it to beaver?…never mind

  8. jeff in albany says:

    im just glad hes touring!!!!!

  9. Brian Bulakites says:

So nice to see Ace kicking butt again! Maybe Peter will pop his head up and hit the skins for a song or two at one of the shows that would epic.

  10. ziggy stardust says:

Kiss was a vehicle for Ace im so glad he realized it back in the day

  11. Ace is touring? 2 Questions, when, and where!! :)

  12. ziggy stardust says:

Ace was right his new album does make kiss look foolish!

    • And his appearance on Fallon made him look fat

    • Ziggy,
I love the new Ace album–but it does not make KISS look foolish. Cant say I blame Ace for saying that, but I think if someone asks Paul and Gene what they think of Ace’s album (and if they took the time to give it a good listen) they would express how proud they are of Ace. Just my opinion and maybe hoping for too much, but that’s what I believe.

  13. ziggy stardust says:

Anomaly was just as good but it failed amongst dead ears .and thats a sad thing

  14. You did Elliott you don’t remember

  15. The new kiss sucks I went see them on this tour there sould be a law against counterfit kiss just like counterfit money

    • your comment could’ve come from me. maybe I’m a name changer.

    • The new Ace is cd is not that good, him or Kiss don’t put out anything that’s worth listening to anymore.I get it, there’s a lot of Kiss haters because of the fake Ace and Peter, but no matter how you feel about Kiss does not make Ace’s cd any better.

  16. Where & when? Just look at 2014 Skid Row venue list….that’s where. The counterfit (sic) Kiss blows away Frehley in every facet.

  17. Jim From Houston says:

Ace Needs another vocalist though he doesn’t really sing the whole concert. Will be interesting to see who picks up extra vocals. I’ve seen him with Richie Scarlet(boring), Todd Howarth(Strong singer and good front man).

  18. I really hope Ace tours Texas. I have accumulated many guitar heroes since I started playing guitar over 35 years ago, including Michael Schenker, Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Tony Iommi, Ted Nugent, Criss Oliva, just to name a few. But Ace, I’m proud to say, was my very first guitar hero and the reason I wanted to learn how to play in the first place and I can’t wait to see him play live again. I’ve been having a blast learning how to play songs from the Space Invader album.

  19. Kiss 2015 Vegas,Ace chapter 7 skids man. Jesus how many times do we have to listen to the monkey beg for a banana before he learns to get his own. The comments one hear that knock Aces door down are getting really boring after awhile and (franklee) I can live without it. If you do not like Ace that’s is your choice but to put your dirty cents into the comments on this subject all it dose is sink to the bottom. Ace has come further than most of the people who chose to bash him for know other reason that I can think of. Space invader my not be Abby road but it’s pretty dam good and if you do not like it fine and dandy but at least come up with something new to say cause it grow really old and I’m sure I am not the only one who feels this way! There are a lot bands I don’t like but guess what I keep it to my self and respect people for liking it. There is know (leeway) when you keep tugging tighter on the rope and that rope is about to brake.

  20. Why tie in the KISS thing in Vegas as the opener for this news?……you made the entire first paragraph about something entirely different than what your headline is. ……christ.

  21. There’s an interesting you tube clip you all should see/hear. Ace vs. Vinnie Vincent vs. Bruce Kulick vs. Tommy Thayer soloing live on “Love Gun”. Everyone (Ace, Vinnie, Bruce) does their own, original take on the solos; Tommy just re-hashes Ace’s licks note-for-note!

  22. Andrew Stone says:

Same way it gets old when the haters bash Kiss, guy here even went to concert. I mean don’t go…. AND don’t get Ace cd if all you’re going to do is bash. We can like kiss and Ace or neither, it just friggen music already!! Go ace and go kiss!
