THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GET BORED….

ac:dcwithbon640 Hi all. I very rarely post in this section, but the mood struck me.

The other day I was quite bored and looking for something valid and interesting to fill that void. I ran across my AC/DC Plug Me In DVD box set, which I had not watched in quite some time. One of the many performances featured on first DVD is a live show from the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland dated April 1978. I was amazed by how great the band sounded, and how the songs, in my opinion, did not sound dated.

I thought I would share this vintage gem of Dog Eat Dog from that very show. The lyrics, like many that Bon wrote, are ingenious, quite comical and contain little contradictions such as, “That’s a lie, [hey] that’s the truth.”

So, I hope this video brings you all some warm memories, smiles to your faces and gets your blood pumping.

Enjoy and cheers.

    1. True, but your name is in all the bylines under Music News so I wasn’t 100% sure. Maybe it was someone else. It’s not like Trunk Reports. Please don’t make me look like an idiot on here Dana. I have worked hard to ….aaahhhh I should have just went to Miami when I had the chance. But really, you should do more of these, one a week at least. It would just bolster what Ed is doing. It would, like I said before, uhhh some of the other comments on here….yeah….uhhhhhh…

    2. Sorry Shannon,

I wasn’t patronizing you, but some people really never look at the bylines. I should have known better, you are a sharp cookie 😉

Thank you for kind words and the support. It is really nice to know I am appreciated 🙂

      D 🙂

    3. Dana, you can never go wrong with AC/DC! If watching any AC/DC DVD doesn’t cure your boredom, nothing will. Cheers! 😉

  1. I love how Malcolm and Cliff have to stand in the back for the simple reason that if they don’t they will get slammed into by Angus….it’s stage placement by necessity. Bon was a force of nature…imagine having to follow that guy. I think even Halford would have to buckle up for that one.

    1. Shannon, my buddy, what are you doing on Alcatraz?? I agree on Malcolm and Cliff, but it would have been nice every once in a while to see Malcolm and Cliff “runaround” on stage back in the day, at least for a song or two. But then again, as hyper as Angus is, that might have been a train wreck! LOL! 🙂

    2. Doug R, I had to get on this “island” to get away from crazy people. I just got Standing Hampton on vinyl. Cool Hipgnosis style cover art. I will let you know how it grabs me. (I also have the vinyl of Three Lock Box..didn’t know I had it).
If you watch that clip, look at Malcolm and Cliff as they back up, they have to back up, Angus isn’t stopping. Bon and Angus, their stage personas are so different, it’s this yin and yang thing. Musically, this crazy white school kid who plays like a Southern black guy…Bon sounds like a black blues singer….but it’s all jacked up by this sense of discovery. These white kids from Australia must’ve felt like they figured out atomic theory with that black music.

    3. Well, I can understand about having to get away from crazy people. An island is a perfect escape! Lately I’ve been thinking about escaping from New York myself, -crazier & more crowded than ever. If you like Three Lock Box, I’m sure you’ll like Standing Hampton, one of, if not Hagar’s best! See you on Alcatraz, maybe! Cheers. 😉

    4. Doug, Right you are,Standing Hampton is Sammy’s most solid work and Three Lock Box is right behind it,if you can find it,All Night Long,a live recording from Sammy’s tour opening for Boston in 78′ is fantastic as well.I saw Sammy on that tour at MSG open for Boston, and he blew them out of the bldg.I had never heard of Sammy before but the minute this recording came out I grabbed it.Few have Sammy’s enthusiasm onstage..my 2 cents…Bob

    5. Absolutely Bob, nice to hear from another fellow Redhead. Sammy is amazing, over 40 years of performing, and still going strong, even at 67! Whether he’s solo, Wabos, Chickenfoot, you always get your money’s worth with the Red Rocker. Cheers! 🙂

  2. I saw AC/DC on this tour at the old Palladium in NYC.They opened for UFO,who I was going to see.AC/DC blew UFO off the stage. One of the best opening acts I have ever seen. Thanks Dana, for posting a great tune from a great album.Still love Powerage the best though….

    1. Bob,

Wow, that had to be an incredible show. I am so envious of you. I would have loved to had have the opportunity to have seen the band live with Bon.

Also, I agree with you about Powerage. It is a very close tie for me, between that album, and Highway To Hell. However, I think Highway edges it out, only by the smallest of margins. As for the Brian Johnson years, Back In Black, is still my favorite.

      D 🙂

    2. Dana, Yes it is close,H to H is a great album !! I saw AC/DC at MSG on the Highway to Hell tour as well, opening for Uncle Ted Nugent,I believe August of ’79.Bon and the boys played SO loud my girlfriend and I went into the bathroom to put toilet tissue in our ears, the loudest act I have ever seen,my ears rang for 2 weeks!!Unfortunately Bon would be taken from us shortly after….If you are so inclined to look,AC/DC has a famous bootleg from Towson State U.from that very tour, excellent soundboard recording,I found a copy on e bay.If you wish,I can burn you a copy….keep up the good rockin!! Bob

    3. I agree Dana. Highway was probably a tad better in terms of production and sound with Mutt Lange at the helm. But Powerage will always be my fav. Start to finish, IMHO it kicks ass. Maybe not the total masterpiece that highway and back in black were, but it’s a record I can listen to anytime, anywhere start to finish. Definitely a good soundtrack to a road trip. Can’t wait to see them next year. It will be my sons first rock concert. What better band could there possibly be for a first rock show. Seen many bands over the years and have rarely been disappointed. But nobody brings it live like the thunder from down under. It to me is almost an otherworldly experience.

    4. Bob,
I was there as well. One of my long ago metal shows that blow people away when I tell them about it. The Palladium was Heavy Metal Central back in the late 70’s – early 80’s.
Did you see Ozzy with Randy Rhoads there with Motorhead opening?
Third row for the early show and scalped 10th row for the 11 o’clock show.
      Those were the days.
      Cheers.

    5. Mike G Yes the old Palladium ROCKED!! Didn’t get to see Ozzy there, but I did see shortly after this show Def Leppard on their first US tour open for AC/DC with Brian Johnson on the Back in Black tour.I was also lucky enough to see the one show KISS did there,Eric Carr’s very first KISS show I believe. Also saw Cheap Trick there on the Heaven Tonight tour….used to go to the liquor store next store, buy a bottle of Mateus Rose’ and sneak it in a wine skin..Ironically if you recall Mateus used to sponsor alot of the shows there….ahhh concert memories…..

    1. Thanks Jon, or should we call you Captain Obvious? Yes we know it isn’t the same band because Bon died and they had to find another singer or quit. Would you have preferred they quit?

Are you the same guy I see at every concert wearing the band t shirt of the band you are going to see?
