SEASON 13 “AMERICAN IDOL” WINNER CALEB JOHNSON’S TO RELEASE “TESTIFY” ON AUGUST 12TH

CalebJohnson400 Michele Amabile Angermiller of the Hollywood Reporter reports:

American Idol season 13 winner Caleb Johnson will release his new album, Testify, on August 12th. The album is available for pre-order at iTunes.

“It’s been crazy,” says Johnson of shuttling back-and-forth from the American Idol LIVE! summer tour to the studio to put the finishing touches on Testify. “You kind of have to get in the zone where you are going non-stop. You are working 24-7, so you just get in a mode… Now everything is done and I can focus on the tour.”

Johnson has described Testify as “the church of rock and roll. … It’s over-the-top, it’s dramatic, it’s raw…theatrical like Queen and Meatloaf…heavy, stripped-down blues rock.”

Im not too excited about it…good voice but im not an American idol fan…

I am not an American Idol fan either, but Caleb is one the best contestants they have ever had on that Karaoke show. I have to say despite how awful the show is as a whole, they have had a few contestants with some really great voices: Caleb, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson can all sing their butts off.

I agree, great voice. I don’t know how “rock” they will allow his album to be though. I would think the producers will want it to appeal to the Idol watchers. Daughtry was the “Idol Rocker ” a few years back, and he is basically making pop music with some guitars thrown in now.

      Brian,

You are probably right, but maybe if he can get some traction, it will propel him forward so that he can record the type of music that he loves?

Dana, I totally agree on your list of Idol contestants (would add Katharine McPhee). On the rock side I would include James Durbin and Bo Bice, their first albums are pretty good IMO and obviously Chris Daughtry. Constantine Maroulis’s album has its moments too (“Sister Sister” is an awesome song).

      Thanks Doug,

I forgot about Bo. I remember he did a Badlands song once on the show. So cool.

Clarkson has more talent than everybody mentioned combined, a 5′ 2″ dynamo.

    • Dana on

      Lee,

I agree. Clarkson has a phenomenal voice and is one of my favorite female vocalists even if I am not necessarily into her style of music.

The guy does have a very good voice, but unfortunatley the winners of these shows get thrown into the studio ASAP to put out some manufactured, commercialized piece of generic garbage, and it is unfair to the artist IMHO. It’s all about the money.

    • Dana on

      Will,

I cannot argue with that, but it did help Clarkson, Underwood and Daughtry, so let’s hope for the best, but I am realist.

      D 🙂
