SAMMY HAGAR EXPLAINS WHY HE REACHED OUT TO EDDIE VAN HALEN ONLINE, “I DON’T WANT TO BE BURIED WITH ANY REGRETS…NO MORE ENEMIES FOR ME”

As previously reported, singer Sammy Hagar tweeted Eddie Van Halen on his birthday, prompting the guitarist to respond in kind.

Now, Hagar explains why he decided to extend an olive branch, to his former bandmate. He tells Classic Rock Report, through kshe95, that the recent deaths of rock icons Glenn Frey and David Bowie were the motivating factor.

He explains, “It just makes you stop and think that, you know, with my relationship with Eddie Van Halen and stuff that’s always been in the toilet, it makes you say, ‘I don’t want to be buried with any regrets or bad vibes like that.’ It makes you want to be just friends with everybody and say, ‘Hey, look, forget it.’ Even if you don’t want to be in a band together, just let’s be friends. No more enemies for me. You don’t want to go to your grave with enemies. So that’s what it’s done for me. It woke me up and said, ‘no more enemies.’ And before I die, I won’t have any, if I have my way.”

Hagar remains busy with several projects, including The Circle and Chickenfoot, both of which also feature ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony.

If Sammy’s outreach is done genuinely and without ulterior motives, then kudos to him.

  • DR Is Live on

Keep looking forward Sammy. Stop looking back. There’s nobody there for you.

    • Doug R. on

Sure there is DR, thousands and thousands of Redheads!

    • Jason Falkinham on

Yeah, don’t you know he was every bit as big as Van Halen as a solo artist and felt no pressure filling Roth’s spot because he was so huge? Just ask him, he’ll tell you…

    • Doug R. on

Sammy never said anything like that Jason, he never had to, his music spoke for itself. Now come on back with some more predictable Hagar sarcasm.

    • Doug R. on

I already saw that interview Jason, once again, Hagar was ASKED a question, and answered it truthfully. There was no pressure for Sammy because he had nothing to lose. If for whatever reason it didn’t work out with VH, yes, he already had a very successful career as a solo artist to fall back on. He didn’t mean what he said as a dis on Dave, no more than Roth’s comments in ’85/’86. At that time, it’s true, Hagar was as big as VH, coming off of VOA, Hagar was selling out every arena he played. But that doesn’t matter to Hagar haters like yourself, no matter what he says or does, people like you are going to continue to hate him, hate on Jason.

There’s no other gingers in VH. So what he’s looking for isn’t there.

VH? Sammy never needed them DR, remember, he did THEM a favor! MAS TEQUILA bro! 😉

Sammy has gotten a lot of flak every time he talks about VH in any way.

The feud is silly, in the end, whatever it is. It’d be cool if they got together and jammed and buried the hatchet, with Michael Anthony too. None of these guys are getting any younger, and people forget that time is shorter than you think.

I don’t know what the deal with Dave is, or what the current state of Van Halen is, if it is anything at all. Dave seems to be out and about again and I hope he gets the Eat ’em and Smile band out for a few gigs. Maybe all these guys can just get together and shake hands and be friends again and call it a day.

Ed was tearing it up on that last tour, and it’d be a shame if he didn’t move forward with some music, I don’t really care who sings.

Gotta love how sheeple jump on the current hip sayings, such as “moving forward, or we’re looking into it,” etc…. If nobody looked back, nobody would move forward. People learn from past mistakes, then move forward. Wish more people would stop and think, like Sammy, then move forward after clearing the air. Good for you Sammy, you manned up, and took the high road.

    • DR Is Live on

Ya that tell all book he cranked out was full of the high road.

    • Doug R. on

Yeah, like DARYL HALL says – “Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid.”
The truth hurts, (taking the high road) but lies hurt even more.

CRANK UP THE DRUMS, CRANK OUT THE BASS
CRANK UP MY LES PAUL IN YOUR FACE…

Are We Having Any Fun Yet? 😉

Interesting, I had no idea that Sammy Hagar was such a polarizing figure.

    • DR Is Live on

Well like his days in VH, he’s very good at dividing people.

    • Doug R. on

DR, no offense, but I think you have Hagar confused with someone else.

When Sammy and DLR bury the Hatchet and are on good terms; then the World will have achieved True Peace! But I don’t see that one happening Anytime Soon.
