RUSH FRONTMAN GEDDY LEE CLARIFIES THAT NEIL PEART IS NOT RETIRING FROM MUSIC, ONLY FROM TOURING

rush400pix A day after Neil Peart seemed to confirm that he was walking away from music, Rush bandmate Geddy Lee is clearing things up. “There’s really nothing to say. I think Neil is just explaining his reasons for not wanting to tour, with the toll that it’s taking on his body,” Lee told Prog (through Classic Rock magazine). “That’s all I would care to comment on it.”

“We’ll get together eventually and chat about things,” Lee said. “But in my view, there is certainly nothing surprising in what he said. Neil just feels that he has to explain with all the thousands of people asking, ‘Why no more tours?’ He needs to explain his side of it.”

Lee said he thinks Peart’s comments were taken out of context. “That’s their job,” he noted. “Talking about something when there’s nothing to talk about.”

Rush band have recently wrapped up the R40 tour.

Whew! I’m glad Geddy cleared that up! No more touring for Neil, but he’ll still be a “Working Man,” cool! Right Shannon?

I am still not a huge Rush fan by any means, the only record I own is Signals, and I rarely, if ever, play it.
I think a lot of their lyrics are preachy, even if they are….Peartinent…right Doug R? But they write better than Yes, ELP, and maybe even King Crimson.

I love Rush, and Yes! ELP? Eh, they’re o.k., King Crimson? Same.
Geez Shannon, calm down, don’t have a cow! Unless it’s a “Black Cow,” 😉 LOL! Just make sure you add plenty of Kahlua, cheers! 🙂

O.K, I love Crimson, but I have to give it to Rush, they are the best progressive band in terms of songs, it’s not even close really. Yes has given me some of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had with a record. ELP was a pretty great band for what they did, but I don’t remember any of their songs. You have to hand it to Rush, they got down to the business of writing great songs without making it a business. That is, they didn’t go and form Asia, know what I’m sayin’ Doug?

Shannon, how can you not remember “Karn Evil 9 – 1st Impression – Part 2?” You know, “Come & See The Show!” Or “Lucky Man?” 2 of ELP’s best songs!
Shannon, do me a favor, and yourself, open your mind, and listen to FRAGILE from Yes, not just (IMO) Yes’ best album, but one of the best albums ever made, period! Listen to one of, if not the greatest bass player who ever lived, Chris Squire, God rest his soul. Many other great Yes albums, but if you don’t enjoy FRAGILE, there’s no point in even mentioning them.
1 more thing, Jean Beauvoir only played bass on 1 song from Animalize, “Under The Gun.” And 2 songs from Asylum, “Who Wants To Be Lonely,” and “Uh! All Night.” The rest was Gene, except “Tears Are Falling,” Paul played bass on that one.
Have a great weekend, cheers! 🙂

No way, that’s definitely Jean on “King of the Mountain,” Gene plays bass on his songs.

Yep, I was confused about all the headlines, because all of stories came from the same source where Neil talks about his daughter calling him a retired drummer. There was no statement from him that he was done, just clickbait headlines.

I can’t imagine they’d 100% retire from creating and performing occasionally, but time will tell.

Oh Thank God it’s RUSH HOSHANAH indeed. 20 more years of RUSH albums. More RUSH than we’ll know what to do with. 2113. A WELCOME BACK TO KINGS. MOVING PICTURES SOMEPLACE ELSE. UNROLL THE BONES. OPERATION MINDCRIME 3? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. No that is somebody else. Good news though.

Neil needs to officially confirm he’s only retiring from touring. Someone that good can’t fully walk away completely. It’s a relief knowing there will be Rush music in the future. And the R40 tour was one Hell of an end to their touring career!

Dana, was that initial report bogus? Or is Geddy just cleaning house a little bit cause Neil said to much? Just wondered if you knew. Thanks for all your work.

I think Rush are still hoping to do something and don’t want any definitive statements out right now. I honestly think they themselves are trying to figure it out
