ROB HALFORD DISCUSSES JUDAS PRIEST’S ROCK HALL SNUB

Rob Halford has reacted to Judas Priest not getting enough votes to get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year.

The band came fifth on the fan ballot alongside Bon Jovi, The Moody Blues, Dire Straits and The Cars for a chance to be be inducted into the Rock Hall in April next year. But, while those four bands eventually garnered enough total votes to be named in the class of 2018, Priest came up short.

Following the news, the Metal God appeared on Phoenix radio station 100.7 KSLX and read out the rejection letter from the Rock Hall live on air.

Asked if he wanted to be inducted at some point in the future, Halford replied, “Personally, I would love it. I think we deserve it. We put our 10,000 hours in and more – and beyond that, we just feel that heavy metal deserves more space in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

We were thrilled and honoured to be nominated, so it’s bittersweet. We got the nomination which is something of a recognition for the work that you’ve done, but we didn’t quite get in this time. But I’m hopeful that eventually we’ll get some more metal.”

Judas Priest are gearing up for the launch of their 18th studio album Firepower, which is set to arrive in March.

Congrats to all the inductees. But it simply pathetic that Judas Priest, one the most influential bands of any music genre, is not inducted into the Hall. Not only were they influential, but they’ve had commercial success with both radio and video play/rotation. Have the voters not heard Screaming for Vengeance, British Steel, or Unleashed in the East before????

I am shocked they did not get in not just because Priest is one of the greatest bands ever, but also because Rob is a homosexual. I thought for sure the highly liberal rock hall would surely have inducted Priest because of that alone. Priest should have been a first ballot hall of fame induction for making some of the absolute greatest metal records ever, period. The rock hall can kiss my ass.

      Frank,

I completely agree, a band like Judas Priest, had no business being on a “fan ballot” in the first place. They should have been inducted, period. But, what can we expect? They did the same thing to Deep Purple. The Rock Hall is a nothing more than a bad punchline.

Judas Priest not being inducted in the HOF is a travesty! They are one of most influential bands of the metal genre, have had a lot of commercial success, and are still putting out new music and touring. It just proves once again (as if we needed any further proof) that the HOF has ZERO respect for the heavy metal community!

I still strongly believe Eddie’s reputation and his many years as a respected music historian, rock radio & Tv personality and journalist, would allow him to form EDDIE TRUNKS REAL ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME –

My guess, Priest will get the nod next year….and Def Leppard.

      I hope you’re right, Doug.

In my opinion, they don’t deserve the mighty Priest.
