Ace Frehley believes Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has “alienated just about everybody on the planet” with his recent comments on depression, addiction and poverty. And the guitarist has predicted his former colleague could next turn on gay people – all because he doesn’t understand the human condition.
His comments stem from Simmons’ incendiary comments about depression, when he claimed his message to anyone preparing to take their own lives was, “Fuck you, then kill yourself.” He later apologized for his statements.
Now Frehley tells Artisan News Service, “First he attacks immigrants, then he belittles poor people by saying, ‘Be nice to the rich people because we’re the ones that give you jobs.’ Then he attacks people with depression, alcoholics, drug addicts. The only thing left for him to do is to attack the whole gay movement. I’ve heard him do that in private, so that’s probably still yet to come.”
The guitarist argues Simmons isn’t as clever as he likes to think. “I don’t think he makes any sense,” he reflects. “He prides himself on being such an intellectual, he brags about being able to speak seven languages, but when it comes to being knowledgeable about the human condition – depression is a very serious disease.
I’ve suffered from it, I know my daughter suffers from it. Alcoholism is a disease, so is drug addiction; it’s the disease of addiction. Many people are born that way – and Gene just seems ignorant of that whole fact. I think it’s time for Gene to go back to school and get educated in the health field.”

You know, I’ve seen in-fighting from many great rock bands, but Kiss have to be the biggest bitches on the planet. These guys loathe each other yet can’t stop talking crap about each other. Grow the f up!! Oh wait, these dumbasses are in their sixties, so I guess that’s not going to happen, huh?
Ace, I’m digging your new album! So much buzz leading up to its release, I’m curious as to where it charts on Billboard. As for Gene, he and Paul have suffered from “foot in mouth disease” for a long time. I stopped caring about those guys a long time ago. Gene’s comments on depression could have had tragic consequences, that’s a fact. He has an egotistical, arrogant nature about him and I hope this episode teaches him once and for all to keep his idiotic opinions to himself. Hopefully Paul learns that to. We all know they probably won’t learn their lesson, but maybe at the very least this will shut them up for a while because I’m really sick of hearing them make their dumbass commets and opinions in the press.
Both sides of Kiss have been saying crap since knowing of the hall of fame induction and 40 year anniversary.
Aces new album in my opinion destroys monster! Reckless rocks and so does what every girl wants! The title track rips also! Great album!
That’s isn’t a great feat – Monster was horrible.
That is true! I would say in my opinion it is aces best since the 78 solo album. I agree monster did suck balls though!
It sounds like you didn’t listen to it.
Once again my self-satisfied Mike, you demand discussion when all YOU do is just denying that someone might have a different opion of something??!!
If you think that’s bad wait until you see how I responded to you on another thread.Consider it an Easter Egg hunt! Have fun!!
There were no unsold seats at Kiss at the Forum. They never sold $20 tickets in L.A.. Curtains? “dose”? What’s that word? Criss is sitting by Captain Kirk right now in Chicago at the comicon…go to Peter’s site. I lived minutes from his Locust Road Greenwich Connecticut home in the 70’s, I got him to sign stuff back then. Ace I saw a few times in White Plains, he looked asleep walking around. At $50 I’d pay it today on cool stuff. I Love Kiss. Kisssssss. Ace did his Chapter 7 right before the reunion tour. The entire thing is printed in Kiss & Tell by his assistants Gebert & McAdams…a little over 3 million. Kiss Fourteen: Paul: “This is the best band I’ve been in”. Chillah Convention: Zacherly & Ace/Peter. Let it happen.
