NIGHT RANGER’S JACK BLADES SAYS “THERE’S NOTHING WORSE…THAN A MUSICIAN GETTING UP ON A SOAPBOX AND STARTING TO LECTURE PEOPLE”

Night Ranger bassist/vocalist Jack Blades recently spoke with Classic Rewind 949 JackFM. A few excerpts from the interview appear below (as transcribed by blabbermouth.net).

On whether he ever hopes to convey a certain “message” with lyrics to his songs:

“There’s nothing worse to me than a musician getting up on a soapbox and starting to lecture people. As far as I’m concerned, anybody who actually listens to a musician for their life’s guidance is an idiot. Musicians are not known for being the most straight-ahead, I’ve-got-my-s–t-together-type of person, so it’s kind of funny. What does strike me is that [with] Night Ranger, there has always been a positive sort of vibe. I think that’s a reflection, and definitely a function of the way my outlook on life is, and what I got from my parents, my family. For me, the cup is always half full.”

On what to expect from the band in 2019:

Jack: “We’re putting together a whole acoustic tour. Night Ranger never did an MTV “Unplugged,” so we’re going to put together a string of dates — a Night Ranger “Unplugged” string of dates, so we can just sit there with acoustic guitars and talk about the songs and tell stories and tell lies and bag on each other. It’s going to be fun… Of course, there will be some new music next year. We’re always going to be creating, because we believe when you stop creating, you start dying inside, so we’re going to keep creating and creating and creating.”

Night Ranger released their latest album, Don’t Let Up, on March 24th, 2018.

Yes there can be consequences. Just ask the Dixie Chicks.

About the perceived hypocrisy, I would say that there may be other pressures involved besides just less personal income. Such as pressure from the record company, pressure to keep their team of employees working.

Tyger, I agree Neil and Rush were brilliant at that. I guess getting messages across effectively and artfully is really an art in itself.

On a less controversial note, what does everyone think of Tommy and Eric in makeup? (Lol!)

Speaking of which, there is one member of Kiss no one has mentioned that I’m hoping will make an appearance during the reunion: RealPaulStanley where u at?

    • Dana on

Yes, I realize that, but I also think it is easy to preach when you live in a gated ivory tower with armed security and nannies, etc. So, the hypocrisy sort of applies to that part of it, as well.

      Who is RealPaulStanley? LOL!

      D 🙂

Maybe the RealPaulStanley is quiet due to the fact he will be on a vocal track for the tour 🙂

    • Dana on

      LOL!!!

  • Waverider on

Come on Dana, are you telling me you you don’t remember theRealPaulStanley? Lol

Somebody used to post here under that name. He (or she) would post these parodies of Paul Stanley’s stage banter. I loved it. We need the return of theRealPaulStanley!

    • Dana on

Oh yes, now I remember…LOL! It has been awhile.

      D 🙂

Everybody misses the RealPaulStanley! He, or she, was the funniest poster ever on this site! Elliot comes close, (wherever he is) but nobody will ever beat the RealPaulStanley!

I don’t want to hear or see a musician pretending to be a politician any more than I want to hear or see a politician pretending to be a musician! Stick to what you know and what you do best, and don’t worry about the rest! And speaking of pretenders, I definitely don’t want to hear OR see Tommy & Eric pretending to be Ace & Peter!! 😉

    • Charles Clinchot on

You mean like Bill Clinton and his saxophone

    • Doug R. on

      Exactly!

  • Charles Clinchot on

Like Frank Zappa said shut up and play your guitar

  • Waverider on

Charles, not to discount your point of view which I respect, but there is good reason to think Frank did not mean that title literally. If you’re a fan you know that Frank used satire and irony liberally. The title referred to the albums being instrumental.

Frank was arguably one of the most politically outspoken artists inside and outside his art. A large chunk of his autobiography was about the state of American politics in the late 80’s. He, along with Dee Snider testified before congress against the PMRC, but no one seems to be criticising that political activity.

    • Doug R. on

Ah yes, the PMRC, started and ran by those hypocrites Tipper and Al Gore, funny how times change, and people too, especially when it’s convenient.

    • Dana on

      Pretty
      Much
      Ridiculous
      Crap

    • Charles Clinchot on

Not a big fan but I do agree with you and that statement from him just seemed like another satirical comment and also I do owe thePMRC for pointing out the really good albums with that sticker

    • Doug R. on

      Bingo! 😉

    • Doug R. on

That Bingo was for Dana’s response ^^^^^
