Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of The New Reality on December 1st.
The New Reality is the third and final chapter in the musical trilogy from iconic metal vocalist Geoff Tate that follows a little over one year after the release of the second chapter, Resurrection, in 2016 and about two years after the first chapter, The Key.
Operation: Mindcrime is a creative platform that continues in the spirit of the historic album of the same name, spawning concepts as grand as the music, and intertwining the intensity of the former Queensrÿche vocalist’s iconic past with the provocative, progressive mindset that has made him one of music’s most resolute forces and frontmen. Joined by a cast of musicians, Kelly Gray, John Moyer, Simon Wright, Scott Mercado, Scott Moughton, Brian Tichy, & Mike Ferguson, whose talent and resumes speak volumes for the quality of musicianship that will be on display here, The New Reality is a another fine progressive rock/metal entry from Tate.

Sorry, but I haven’t enjoyed ANY of the Geoff Tate’s music since he left Queensryche. Actually, most of the music he put out with Queensryche during the end of his tenure with the band was pretty mediocre. And I was a HUGE Queensryche fan thru most of their career up thru HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER. After Chris D. left the band, it seemed that Geoff sort of took over the direction of the band’s sound, and not for the better. And since leaving the band, Geoff’s music has just been pretentious crap, if you ask me. I much prefer the direction Queensryche has taken with Todd L. as the vocalist, which is much closer to the classic Queensryche sound.
He’s been terrible and QR has been better without him. I still remember the first time I heard Rage for Order. I was on a bus trip and a buddy lent me the cassette for the ride. I was hooked on QR after that. Queensryche, Priest, and Maiden were my three ‘go to’s’. If someone would’ve told me back then what a musical train wreck Tate would be now I would’ve never believed them. He just doesn’t have the chops anymore.
I agree, Keith. Tate’s influence (or his wife’s) took the band in a direction I didn’t care for…and I also prefer the direction the band went with Todd L. Todd helped return the classic Queensryche sound to the band. Sucks when classic bands lose key classic members, but in this case, I think it worked out for the betterment of the band….Now, impersonating the original Spaceman and Catman…well, that’s a different story! :o)
I agree with that. The new Operation Mindcrime album is pretty darn good. There are a lot of close minded Queensryche fans that just couldn’t handle something different.
The version of Queensryche is pretty solid, though i still question the artistic vision of hiring someone that mimics what Tate did. It’s like Arnel in Journey. Great singers, but they’ll only ever be known for who they sound like, not for anything original. That’s a shame.
I guess to each his own, Craig. I thought AMERICAN SOLDIER was okay, not great, but definitely better than TRIBE or Q2K. To me, it’s almost like Geoff wanted to move away from the metal sound that Queensryche always had, and go to a more pop/ jazz sound. It’s definitely the sound that his solo records had. He isn’t as strong vocally as he once was, and you can tell that he has brought most of the vocals down to the middle register in the later material. I get that, since he is getting older, you can’t expect him to hit all of those higher notes like he did in his twenties. But the move to a more pop/ jazz sound for Queensryche definitely turned me off. I’ll just stick to the older Queensryche records with Geoff, and the newest records with Todd L.
Craig, I wrote off Tate, not because of him putting out something mellow, rather because of how he acted and treated his band mates (now ex-band mates) upon his departure from the band. A professional does not spit on others or get abusive! Tate’s actions left a sour taste in my mouth…
As far as artists putting our something mellow, I’ve got no problem with that, as long as it’s within the sound of the band. It’s like when Coca Cola changed it’s original taste. I liked Coca Cola, but then they changed it’s taste. It still was branded “Coca Cola”, but I didn’t like it as much cuz it wasn’t my Coca Cola. I expect my Coca Cola to taste as I originally liked it. Well, that’s how I feel about bands…I expect a certain sound from a band, and when that sound changes, I feel somewhat betrayed…Metallica with the Black Album, Def Leppard with Pyromania, Megadeth with Risk, and KI$$ with the scariest song I ever heard…I was Made for Loving You :o)
I’m kinda along the line with you Craig.
I loved kings & thieves . 1st solo was ok . dtc not bad /fu (Billy Sherwood remixed version) = not bad/ tribe= good ( especially doin fine and art of life = DeGarmo penned.
I don’t mind the direction Tate was going with Kelly Gray and don’t think Wilton , Scott and, Eddie’s version is any better.
I don’t have to hear heavy old Queensryche , Priest, Manson to enjoy it.
A lot of people do . I don’t get it
Priest try’s so hard to be super heavy and I don’t like it really.
Its not the same as the chorus driven, arena rock sound of old Priest imo.
I’m older.
The bands are older.
Music tastes change, etc.
I went to Queensryche cabaret show that all the ( you have to be heavy) fans hated and I loved it.
One thing I hate though is The Key and Resurrection !
I’m not even looking forward to New Reality and that’s the first time I’ve ever said that in 33 years.
After all the stuff I just mentioned I like, I just can’t find one song on those two releases.
Geoff just seems to try so hard for the concept thing like omII , touring for how many years playing om and omII and now these last two releases .
I just wish he’d let it go and make a normal album again.
He’s got the pipes still > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWdmZf8Q0mU
I really don’t even care if his vocals are off anyway.I’ve been seeing him since I saw Queensryche open for Kiss on the Animalize tour. Obviously vocals age . Its not a guitar that stays the same sound. Unless maybe you’re Dio or Dickinson.
