DEEP PURPLE FRONTMAN IAN GILLAN SAYS HE WOULD FOLLOW KISS’ LEAD IF THE BAND WAS EVER INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK HALL

ianGillan Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan is planning to take a cue from KISS should Deep Purple ever get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – because he refuses to play with former guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.

KISS founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons pulled out of a Hall of Fame set in April (14) after they were informed that current bandmates Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer would not be honored alongside former colleagues Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, and singer Gillan insists he’ll follow their example if Blackmore’s replacement, Steve Morse, isn’t included in what many fans think is a long overdue induction.

Gillan says, “It would be unconscionable to think about bringing Ritchie in. I don’t have an issue with Ritchie, nor does anyone. I’ve been in touch with Ritchie recently and everything’s cool, so there’s no bitter, personal problem. We’re too old for that and everything’s in the past, but no. That would be out of the question. This is the longest that any lineup has ever been together in this band.”

Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1993 and Morse has been the band’s guitarist ever since.

sixxam400 The long-awaited third release from SIXX:A.M., the band comprised of James Michael (vocals), DJ Ashba (guitar) and Nikki Sixx (bass) is entitled Modern Vintage. Produced by James Michael, the album will be available on October 7th with the first single Gotta Get It Right on iTunes now. Watch the video below.

Says bassist Nikki Sixx, “Like our favorite bands from the 1970s, Sixx:A.M. is rooted in songwriting, musicianship and lyrics – three core elements that helped to define that era. Sixx:A.M. has taken even more pages from this book on Gotta Get It Right and the rest of Modern Vintage, having hopefully created a record that demands to be discovered again and again.”

Watch the band discuss the new album in the first of several upcoming behind-the-scenes webisodes at www.sixxammusic.com.

Gotta Get It Right is clearly a birth child of that creative freedom and an exciting next step for us as our goal was to create something which confounds both expectation and categorization”. Adds guitarist DJ Ashba, Gotta Get it Right is a great example of how Sixx:AM has set out to celebrate the music that has influenced us over the years and we truly feel we’ve made a genre defying album with Modern Vintage.”

SKID ROW RELEASE “RISE OF THE DAMNATION ARMY-UNITED WORLD REBELLION: CHAPTER TWO” TODAY, STREAM THE EP ONLINE

skidrow640 Gary Graff of Billboard reports:

Skid Row releases Rise of the Damnation Army — United World Rebellion: Chapter Two today (August 5th) as the second in a series of three EPs. And bassist Rachel Bolan tells Billboard the group has been surprised and gratified to see fans buying into the concept and starting “sectors” of the Damnation Army all over the world. “We came up with this idea of United World Rebellion, and it’s united a lot of people together,” Bolan says. “Someone in Finland would start the street team, then Japan, New York — we’re watching them all come to life in front of us, and the common thread is Skid Row. We’ll see fans from Italy who invite fans from Brazil to hang out because they’ve started sectors and started communicating with each other through social media. It’s like, ‘Wow, we’re bringing our fans from different parts of the world together,’ so the United part is really working. It’s just a really cool thing.”

Bolan says Skid Row has “ideas but no songs yet” for Chapter Three. “That way it’s really in the moment and fresh,” he explains. “We don’t do the big rehearsals and pre-production; we get through the five originals songs and then after that we start deciding on what songs we’re doing to do, cover-wise. So we learn everything in the studio and go right to the record with those, because we want it to feel completely natural.

KISS’ GENE SIMMONS HAS LITTLE SYMPATHY FOR DRUG ADDICTS AND DEPRESSION, SAYS “F-YOU, KILL YOURSELF”

Gene-Simmons400 Annie Reuter of Radio.com reports:

Gene Simmons of KISS has some heated words for drug addicts and people dealing with depression in a new interview with Songfacts.com.

When asked if he keeps in touch with the original players of KISS he answered with a resounding “no.”

Why’s that? Simple: they’re either drug addicts or just downers.

“I don’t get along with anybody who’s a drug addict and has a dark cloud over their head and sees themselves as a victim,” Simmons said. “Drug addicts and alcoholics are always: ‘The world is a harsh place.’ My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don’t want to hear f–k all about ‘the world as a harsh place.’ She gets up every day, smells the roses and loves life.

And for a putz, 20-year-old kid to say, ‘I’m depressed, I live in Seattle.’ F–k you, then kill yourself.”

He added “I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I’m the guy who says ‘Jump!’ when there’s a guy on top of a building who says, ‘That’s it, I can’t take it anymore, I’m going to jump.’ Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the f–k up, have some dignity and jump! You’ve got the crowd.”

While Simmons said KISS has new songs ready, there are no plans to record anytime soon. But, there is one artist he’d love to record with in the future: Lady Gaga.

“I think Lady Gaga is the only new rock star, although she’s not a rocker,” he said. “I would like her to throw away all the disco stuff and get a band. Don’t use tapes, come out with a real live band and guitars. She’s a bona fide musical artist. She did a duet with Tony Bennett, real great pipes. She can sit at a piano all by herself. She’s a legitimate artist. A lot of the other pop divas who are really talented are not artists.”

Simmons said KISS and Gaga tried to collaborate on their last record but both were too busy.

“We got close. She got busy, we got busy. We would have done it.”
