Ashville, North Carolina native Caleb Johnson, 23, was crowned American Idol season 13 winner tonight (May 21st) proving rock reigned supreme this season.
Johnson performed on the finale with KISS. Watch the performance below.
Johnson became popular this season for his strong, but soulful voice and won fans over with his renditions of Whitesnake’s Still of the Night, Led Zeppelin’s Dazed and Confused and Rival Son’s Pressure and Time.

Paul’s voice is no worse than its ever been. I never liked KISS because I thought Paul had a great voice.
I think you need to get your hearing checked.

I agree..I seen the LTW solo tour…he was awesome…imo, his voice peaked in the late 80s….hes not the frontman he used to be..thats just father time + a big ego not wanting to admit as much…he was awesome up to/including the reunion tour….not now..maybe if he wasnt so insecure he may have he may have retired already…they say they film all their shows…theres no way he can go back and watch one and say hes still got it…if so, hes in denial….bottom line: its been a 40 year run, a lot of good, alot of bad….in the end its a career he can proudly hang his hat on…father time is undefeated, yet again…

If Kiss fire that aweful excuse for a singer, Paul Stanley & hire Caleb Johnson i’d buy the cd! The main thing ive never liked about Kiss is Paul Stanley’s voice!!
What a mistake by KISS. Here you have this American Idol singer who can absolutely wail and what do they do – Paul hogs the mic with his hoarse, old, croaking voice. They should have let the guy just belt out a KISS song and sang backups only. Also, pick some crazy tune to sing like Creatures of the Night or something – the kid would have blown it away.

Yes, Caleb sang great and I feel bad for Paul. I have been a fan of all hard rock, Montrose, Rush, Kiss, and on and on, all through the years. Huge Pantera fan. I have been watching American Idol all season and this guy Caleb is 23 but an old soul. I saw an interview and he was talking about how great Records and Albums were, the way they smell, how sometimes every song front to back, Side A, Side B were all really legendary and that it really meant something for years and how some albums told a story and that music had depth( Being any of the best albums out there.) He said he hates music now, that it is disposable. Listen once and then throw out. He asked for a turntable for his dressing room so he could listen to his records. This is exactly how I feel. I want turntables and that good quality music back. I love this guy and think he is a great singer,and I hope American idol lets him make the heavy album he wants to do. He is very passionate about his love for heavy metal and hard rock. Check out some of his after idol interviews!
That was my first thought too, why did they not let the young guy sing ghe complete song? It was his show, not Kiss’s. Would it have made the current state of Paul’s voice even more obvious to those who have listenend closely for some time? Well, either way it was a clear disservice for Kiss trying to sell out a tour.

Dear God in heaven, many fans wanted to see them play with the originals at the Hall of fame, but NO that would compromise the band. Then this…….Ace Frehley is no longer good enough but this American Idol shit apparently is. Jesus H.
I honestly believe they didnt want to do the rhof cuz of Pauls voice and covered it up w/ the Acs & Peter stuff. Had the originals played the only embarrassment would have been Paul.
I fear you are right. It is hard to acknowledge that the band we fell in love with does no longer exist now that also the lead voice is gone.
