KISS BASSIST GENE SIMMONS DISCUSSES DONALD TRUMP

Kory Grow of Rolling Stone reports:

Gene Simmons has been enjoying watching Donald Trump subvert the presidential race, calling it the most fascinating election he can remember and saying it was “bound to happen” in what he calls the “Age of Kardashian.” “He is the truest political animal I’ve ever seen onstage,” the Kiss vocalist-bassist tells Rolling Stone. “He has no speechwriters, no editing, no nothing. He’s actually on tape going ‘motherf–ker.’ You cannot turn away.”

Simmons is quick to point out that he’s not saying he’s supporting Trump. “He has said some very vile, unkind things,” he says. “But don’t kid yourself. He speaks off the cuff, and what you see is what you get. And he’ll double down. If you ask him about building a wall [between the U.S. and Mexico] he’ll say, ‘F–k you, I’m going to make it 10 feet higher, just because you asked me.’ He’s not there to be your friend.”

What fascinates Simmons is Trump’s ability to root out people’s feelings. “He’s good for the political system,” he says. “The middle, the centrists, they can say, ‘What do you think of this?’ because everybody is sick and tired of being politically correct. Secretly, tens of millions, perhaps 100 million people may actually have some positive feelings about a wall.

“Macedonia is building a wall between Greece and Macedonia,” he continues. “There’s a wall between Israel and a neighboring country. There was a Berlin Wall. There was the Great Wall of China. So whether they’re good or bad for people, walls actually work. It’s unkind, but in terms of pragmatics, it actually works … The Pope has said the wall is unkind, but it’s interesting that at the Vatican there’s a wall. They don’t want people on the outside coming into the Vatican.”

…”What you can say about politicians is that they’re politicians,” says Simmons, who previously voted for Barack Obama and “in a lot of ways” felt dissatisfied with his decision. “Trump is not a politician. He does not need your money, and he will speak his mind, God damn it, whether you like it or not. And he has no problem saying ‘Fuck off.’

“I like that,” Simmons continues. “Even if I disagree.”

LITA FORD RESPONDS TO THE NAYSAYERS WHO DENY THE TONY IOMMI ABUSE STORY THAT APPEARS IN HER MEMOIR, “LIVING LIKE A RUNAWAY”

Writer Joel Gausten has written a feature piece on guitarist Lita Ford and her memoir, Living Like A Runaway[Dana’s note: Lita is referring to nasty online comments] , because it is crap and they don’t know the true story unless they’ve read the book or have been there themselves. You can ask Nikki… I went to his house. I had been beaten up severely; the guy almost killed me. A lot of it maybe could have been his drug problem. He was taking mass quantities of drugs like you wouldn’t f–king believe, on an Elvis Presley level. Jars and jars of downers…He would buy hundreds of dollars’ worth of cocaine on a daily basis.

There are different kinds of abuse, and people need to realize that. There’s sexual abuse, there’s mental and emotional abuse – where people say really horrible things to you – and then there’s physical abuse, where someone just turns around and hits you. Tony was physically abusive. He was not verbally abusive [or] sexually abusive; he was just physically abusive. I’m not making it up; I couldn’t possibly make up a story like that. I’m not that good of a liar… He had choked me unconscious – true story, like it or not. I woke up, and he was in a rage. I bolted for the door. He was not dressed; he was in his underwear, so he wasn’t going to follow me out into the hallway. I’m sure that I’m not the first woman that he’s done this to. Maybe his wife who he was with before he was with me… I’m sure she’s been pushed around. But I was in love with Tony. He was my everything; he was my world, my idol, my lover. I was going to marry him; I was engaged. I didn’t know anything about an abusive relationship. I had never been in one before. I asked my mother; I actually lied to my mother and I said, ‘Mom, I’ve got a girlfriend whose boyfriend hit her.’ And she said [mimicking a thick Italian accent], ‘Lita, he do it once, he do it again.’ I just went, ‘Oh my God.’ He had done it more than once, and I knew that it was only a matter of time; I needed to get out of there. Thank God, we weren’t married and we had no kids, so I packed up and left. I’m sorry for the people who love Tony, but nobody loved him as much as I did, and I’m the one who suffered from it. I went into like a post-traumatic stress [scenario] because of what he did. It affected me in a huge, huge way. I went out and got that tattoo on my shoulder with the dragon and the guitar. It was a rebellious thing; I didn’t even want a tattoo. He wouldn’t let me drink alcohol, but he can do all these drugs. That was okay, but he wouldn’t let me have a glass of wine. When we split up, I went on a drinking binge, just because Tony said I couldn’t. If you read his book [2011’s Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven & Hell With Black Sabbath], his chapter about me is only a page and a half. We were together two years, so I don’t know how two years turns into a page and a half – probably because he doesn’t remember half of it.”

Lita also has a new album coming out on April 15th called, Time Capsule. The CD features a special collection of previously unreleased songs written in the ’80s and demoed in the late ’80s/very early’90s featuring guest musicians such as: Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Gene Simmons of KISS, Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big/The Winery Dogs), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Jeff Scott Soto, among others. The songs were drawn from a number of 24-track analog tapes found in a closest while Ford was clearing out her home following her divorce from former Nitro singer Jim Gillette.

GUITARIST ZAKK WYLDE DISCUSSES AC/DC AND BRIAN JOHNSON

Artisan News spoke to former Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, where he discussed AC/DC and Brian Johnson. Portions of what Wylde said appear below as transcribed by blabbermouth.net.

On singer Brian Johnson having to leave AC/DC due to hearing issues:

“That’s really sad, man. ‘Cause Brian’s… I met Brian one time. He’s a really sweet guy; he’s super cool. But with the hearing, I read where Brian was saying [the hearing loss was caused by] him being in race cars and not wearing his earplugs when he was in the car. And he said he actually heard his eardrums explode when he was in the car, ’cause he didn’t have the earplugs in. ‘Cause he said it didn’t have anything to do with music…It’s sad, with Brian. Hopefully he’ll get better. But once it’s smashed, it’s smashed, pretty much.”

On whether the band can carry on for another decade with another lead singer:

“Supposedly [late AC/DC singer] Bon [Scott] was the one that recommended… he was talking about how awesome Brian was. He saw him playing one night — Bon did. And he was saying, ‘I saw this singer, this Brian Johnson guy, who’s amazing,’ when Brian was doing his band [before AC/DC]. And that’s how they got tipped off on Brian, how they knew about him, was through Bon. So who knows? Brian might have one of his buddies he knows that’s a great singer and just pass the torch. Just kind of like the whole Malcolm [Young, former AC/DC rhythm guitarist] thing, with their nephew [Stevie Young stepping in after Malcolm was diagnosed with dementia] or whatever. I mean, it’s up to the fellows, but I just wish Brian gets better, though.”

After pictures surfaced online of singer Axl Rose and AC/DC, rumors have persisted that the Guns N’ Roses frontman will be filing in for Johnson on the band’s make up dates.

In related news, Zakk Wylde will be releasing Book Of Shadows II on April 8th. To read more about this release, please click here.

3/30: NEW TV PILOT, TMS, 80s ROCKFEST S FL, PHIL MOGG PODCAST

Shot the pilot for my new TV project Inside Out with Eddie Trunk last night in NYC at Iridium with a live audience and Ace Frehley as my guest. The interview went over two hours and album by album with Ace. He also played some classic riffs, things he hadn’t played in decades! It really was a great first taping and I thank Ace, the fans, and Don Maggie and the entire Iridium crew for making it happen. Next step is editing it down to an hour show (and since it was over 2 cuts will be hard to make!), producing it, and then finding a home for it. If that all goes to plan then it becomes a series. So still much to sort out. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Also FYI we are still very much working on a new home for TMS. I have a meeting today as a matter of fact. It is a slow moving process but we are still very hopeful. More when I can share.

New podcast tomorrow is an exclusive with Phil Mogg of UFO!

Headed to S FL tomorrow for 80’s RockFest. I’ll be on Paul & Young Ron 9A Friday on Big 105 in Miami, then at the event both days. Congrats to my ticket winners in ET’s Box Office.

Hope you all like the new site design. Obviously some fixes still to come but it is cleaner, easier and now optimized for phones and tablets. Thanks to webmaster David Souza for all his hard work!

3/28: METAL CHURCH, ACE FREHLEY, ROB HALFORD, LITA FORD, LZZY HALE TONIGHT, AC/DC-AXL STUFF, more

I get the AC/DC – Axl thing is huge news and everyone is speculating about it. But again, until I have a statement to go by there is nothing to say. As per TMZ pics apparently they were in the same room (if the pics are real). But that still doesn’t mean he’s the new singer. It can also mean they did jam (Axl, like many, worships the band) and who knows if it worked out? Steven Tyler. Myles Kennedy and Sammy Hagar all jammed with Zeppelin to replace Plant may I remind everyone. So again, I don’t know what’s really going on. Nobody does but Axl and AC/DC, two very secretive camps. So when and if this becomes real I’ll get into it. I just can’t see with a Guns tour announced Axl taking on a full schedule with another mega band. If anything a guest spot for a few songs? But who really knows? And I for one still want to know what the hell really happened with BRIAN JOHNSON!?!?

Jammed Trunk Nation tonight live 6-10P ET on channel 39 on SiriusXM. Guests in order of appearance: Kurdt and Mike from Metal Church, Ace Frehley, Rob Halford, Lzzy Hale & Lita Ford. Don’t miss this one!

Tickets for my TV pilot taping with Ace Frehley tomorrow night at Iridium NYC are all gone. Thanks and congrats to those that scored them. I can NOT promise but if there is room before we start to shoot at 8:30 they might let you in. But again, no promises. It’s based on capacity of the room.

80’s Rockfest is this weekend in Sunrise FL. I’ll be there both days. Final chance to enter to win tix and VIP tix in ET’s Box Office on this site.

The new redesign of this site (now optimized and streamlined) will launch TONIGHT! Keep an eye out for a new and improved eddietrunk.com! And thanks to webmaster David Souza for his efforts.
