MEXICO’S “HEAVEN AND HELL FEST 2014” CANCELED, STATEMENT RELEASED

heavenandhellfet2014-630 The Heaven and Hell Fest, which was scheduled to take place in México City on March 15th-16th has been canceled. The organizers have released the following statement:

“To all metal fans, metal bands, followers press and social media,

It is very sad to inform you that the Heaven and Hell Metal Fest 2014, that was planned to do on Texcoco Fair on march 15th and 16th 2014 was canceled by Estado De Mexico (State Government) after beeing supported by local government of Texcoco.

The reasons of this determinant cancellation by the Estate Government which strangely spread immediately to the federal level, were for unknown fundamental matters that make clear that this decision goes beyond the reasons the State Government presented.

Still we thank all the state and municipal governments who expressed their total support and interest to make this festival in their own entities.

With sadness and disappointment we realize that having relationships and interests at the highest levels has more relevance than generating opportunities for emergent projects and building healthy competition whose sole purpose is to bring quality international shows to our country.

We greatly appreciate the full support of all who were always with us and sent us words of encouragement, metal fans, groups, agencies, media and sponsors

The Festival Production did make its best to get this festival come true, unfortunately we’ve been victims of strong political interests, that goes beyond cultural matters.

Reimbursement ticket information will be released as son as possible at the official festival website and Superboletos.com

Finally, Heaven and Hell Metal Fest 2014 will not take place on March 15th and 16th… However we´re looking to reschedule bands and dates and as soon as we can and we will announce details as soon as we know them.

It doesn’t matter how much intolerance exist, the metal will not be silenced. We stand with the support of the entire metal community because Heaven and Hell Metal Fest 2014 is for all.”

ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER KEVIN ESTRADA HELPS RAISE AWARENESS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING WITH BENEFIT SHOW SECHEDULED FOR APRIL 11TH

rockersagainsttrafficking400 Veteran photographer Kevin Estrada has shot some of rock’s biggest names over the years – Nirvana, Kiss, REM, Green Day, Fergie, etc. And now, he is using his connections in the world of rock for a good cause – helping to raise awareness of human trafficking, by creating the organization Rockers Against Trafficking and scheduling an upcoming all-star benefit show, on April 11th at Paladino’s in Tarzana, CA.

“Besides being a photographer, I am a dad – that is my top priority in life,” explains Estrada. “I have two young daughters that I care about and love very much. For the past few years, human trafficking has been on my radar as we see and hear more and more about this spreading sickness. Young girls, like my daughters, fall victim to this travesty every day – and that worries me.”

Last year, Estrada had a birthday party at Paladino’s, which resulted in plenty of his rock pals joining in the fun for jam sessions. This year, when talk of having another b-day bash came up, the photographer came up with an idea – make it a benefit to fight human trafficking.

“Our goal is to build awareness and raise funds to support the fight against human trafficking here in our own country and abroad,” says Estrada. “Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world today – second only to drug activity. This is tragically happening to nearly two million girls worldwide ever year, some of these girls are as young as 7 years old. This is happening all over the world, and it is also happening right here in our own backyards. Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are hot spots here in California.”

The proceeds from the show on April 11th will be used to rebuild the lives of these young victims with housing, medical assistance, legal aid, and job placement. These donations will also be used to build and set up border monitoring stations on the borders between countries that are known for human trafficking.

In addition to performances from members of Helmet, Megadeth, Stone Temple Pilots, Fear Factory, Slayer, Ministry, Armored Saint, and Quiet Riot, among countless others (see list below), there will be silent auctions and raffle giveaways – guitars donated by Schecter Guitars and Monster Energy, Fender Guitars, a DW Drums collector’s series snare drum, plus signed goodies raffled off from Motörhead and The Cult, and more.

Come down to Paladino’s on April 11th for music, fun, and to support a great cause. For more information or to make a donation, please visit rockersagainsttrafficking.org. For information on Kevin Estrada, go to kevinestrada.com.

FORMER SLAYER DRUMMER DAVE LOMBARDO SAYS THE BAND WAS BEING RIPPED OFF BY THEIR MANAGEMENT COMPANY

davelombardo Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has claimed that he was only paid an average of $745 per show in 2011, and bandmates Tom Araya and Kerry King only got $1266 for each appearance – even though concerts were bringing in around $49,000 per night.

After examining the band’s accounts, he concluded that the musicians only received $400,000 out of the $4.4m they’d generated that year. His notes led to the argument that led to his fired in 2013.

Lombardo insists he did everything he could to persuade his colleagues they were all entitled to a better deal, not just him – but alleges the management made extra payments to Araya and King to let the issue drop.

Lambgoat reports a video interview in which Lombardo said: “I knew something was up and I tried my best to work it out with the guys. I had Tom in a hotel room with me, talking to my attorney, telling him everything their management company had been doing to them for the past 30 years.

“Tom got bought out. Management flipped him a couple of hundred grand – who knows how much? – and Kerry as well, to keep quiet. They turned their backs on me.”

He says he “held his breath” for longer than he’d wanted to, before finally confronting his colleagues at the end of 2012. He told them: “‘Out of $4.4m the band gets $400,000. Where’s the four million? Lawyers, accountant and the manager.’

“I just said, ‘Guys, look at this – it came from your accountant.’ I made $67,000. Kerry and Tom, that was about $114,000. Let’s say about 90 shows per year; you break that up per show. It’s disgusting.”

Slayer are working on their first album since the death of guitarist Jeff Hanneman, while Lombardo is concentrating on his former side-project Philm. He says: “My schedule is open; I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.”

ledzeppelin400 John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock ‘n’ roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you’ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.

With the June 3rd release of deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III , the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

“The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin,” says Page. “It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time”

Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III will each be available June 3rd from Atlantic/Swan Song in the following formats:

• Single CD – Remastered album packaged in a gatefold card wallet.

The Led Zeppelin legend began in January of 1969 with the group’s eponymous debut. From the opening salvo of Good Times Bad Times, on through to Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown, and Dazed And Confused, the album introduced the band’s unmistakable sound and left an indelible mark on the music landscape. Led Zeppelin has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales over 10 million and was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 2004.

The companion audio for Led Zeppelin features a previously unreleased performance recorded on October 10th, 1969 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The nine-song set features seven tracks from the album, including an epic 15-minute version of Dazed And Confused, as well as Heartbreaker and Moby Dick, which would debut on Led Zeppelin II later that month.

The band wrote and recorded nearly all of Led Zeppelin II while touring relentlessly to support its debut album. Incredibly, the album was released just seven months after Led Zeppelin in October of 1969. Led Zeppelin II features some of the band’s most beloved tracks including Ramble On and Heartbreaker as well as Whole Lotta Love, considered by many to be one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll songs of all time. The album is certified diamond by the RIAA with sales of over 12 million copies.

The Led Zeppelin II companion audio gives fans the first peek into the band’s recording sessions, with alternate mixes of five songs from the album, backing tracks to Thank You and Living Loving Maid (She’s Just A Woman), and the previously unreleased track La La.

Following the whirlwind success of their first two albums and near constant touring, Page and Plant took to the now famous Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales in 1970 to start the early composition of Led Zeppelin III. They later convened with Bonham and Jones for rehearsals before entering London’s Olympic Studios to begin recording in May 1970. Fueled by classic tracks such as Immigrant Song and Since I’ve Been Loving You” the album soared to the top of charts worldwide upon its release in October of 1970 and has since been certified 6x platinum.

The nine tracks featured on Led Zeppelin III ‘s companion audio continue to offer a window into the band’s recording process with seven studio outtakes of songs from the album as well as three previously unheard compositions: Jennings Farm Blues (an instrumental forerunner of Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp), Bathroom Sound (an instrumental version of Out On The Tiles), and their take on the blues classics Keys To The Highway/Trouble In Mind.

Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant – along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham – took the stage at London’s O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records’ founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album.

QUIET RIOT, FASTER PUSSYCAT, BULLETBOYS AND GUITARIST GILBY CLARKE TEAM UP FOR THE “BANG YOUR HEAD” TOUR

quietriotbangtour2014-640 While there are many tours making their way across North America this summer, NONE will offer more bang for the buck than the Bang Your Head tour, four of Heavy Metal/Hard Rock’s biggest brand names join forces for what will be a guaranteed evening not to miss every show.

Quiet Riot boasts the distinction of having the very first Heavy Metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard charts, and they started the thriving Los Angeles scene that spawned countless others who followed their lead. They have sold over 40,000,000 records. In a testament to their longevity, Quiet Riot’s iconic anthem Bang Your Head (Mental Health) is currently featured in contemporary media via a wildly popular Hyundai commercial and their other classics, such as Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now can be heard everywhere from the Tony Award winning stage show and motion picture, Rock of Ages, to every major sporting event. The Bang Your Head tour brings them back to North American stages to crank out hit after hit for a both the old and new generation of fans!

Hollywood’s own Faster Pussycat bring their notorious live show to the tour, and they always go deep into their extensive catalog including chart toppers House Of Pain and Poison Ivy.

Acclaimed guitarist Gilby Clarke was a primary member of GUNS N ROSES during the bands biggest era and his success continued in the CBS hit series and subsequent supergroup Rockstar Supernova. Gilby will be performing cuts from all of his well-known projects performing many of the Guns N Roses hits!

Each artist on this bill dominated both MTV and radio airwaves in the 80’s, but still remain relevant to this day with heavy rotation on VH1’S Metal Mania and on both satellite and terrestrial rock radio throughout the world.

Dates to be announced soon.

ADRENALINE MOB’S GUITARIST MIKE ORLANDO DISCUSSES THE BAND’S NEW ALBUM AND THE ADDITION OF TWISTED SISTER DRUMMER AJ PERO

adrenalinemob2014-400 Ruben Mosqueda of the Oregon Music News spoke with Adrenaline Mob guitarist Mike Orlando. Highlights from the interview appear below.

OMN: I like that you guys stuck to the “classic” album format in that you have 11 tracks on the album and no more. You’ve sequenced it like an album with a A & B side.

Mike Orlando: Funny that you should mention that because Russell (Allen) looks at a CD as two sides– like a vinyl album. I let him come up with the final order of the songs.

OMN: You have [Twisted Sister drummer] AJ Pero on board. Even as a huge Twisted Sister fan AJ was over looked; records like Under the Blade and You Can’t Stop Rock N’ Roll are untouchable if you ask em.

Mike Orlando: Hell yeah. I agree. I have been close friends and I’d like to say best of friends with AJ for about 20 years. Our relationship has been set in stone since about 1996. It was a no brainer because I have been in multiple musical productions with him in the past we’re actually in another band (TRED) together right now. Since I was in a band already with AJ I didn’t want to select him to drum for Adrenaline Mob because it would have been obvious choice; instead I let things take their course.

AJ is a phenomenal drummer. He has all the chops and all the technique and everything that you’d hear from (Mike) Portnoy. Mike is one of the greatest drummers on the planet but I feel that AJ has the same thing. I will say that AJ has all of those characteristics but he can also drop a groove like a tank on you. That’s where it’s at for a hard rock band; technique is great and having all these chops is cool and impressive but if the song doesn’t shake you then it means nothing.
When it came down to laying down drums tracks we were like “Who do we get?” We even tried some unknown drummers but it just wasn’t working.

After a few people passed through I just gave AJ a call. I invited AJ down to the studio to play on a bonus track that was for either Europe or Japan I can’t recall right now the song was Get You Through the Night. He destroyed it. I played it for the rest of the guys in the band it was like the search was over. It was natural, easy and great.
