GUITARIST GEORGE LYNCH SAYS SUPER STROKE, FEATURING JEFF PILSON, MICK BROWN AND ROBERT MASON, IS “JUST INSANE”

George Lynch has confirmed to SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk that three members of the classic Dokken lineup have reunited in a new project called Super Stroke (also featuring former Lynch Mob and current Warrant singer Robert Mason.

Lynch told Eddie (as per Blabbermouth.net), “I’m literally sitting here writing and recording with Jeff [Pilson] at Jeff’s studio for that project.”

“I’ve got to tell you, I’m probably in the bands with the worst names in the history of rock and roll,” he joked. “You know, Sweet & Lynch, T&N, LP, Super Stroke, KXM — I mean, absolutely no imagination. I’m sorry. I have to apologize up and down. But I don’t know about the idea of, like, 50- and 60-year-old dinosaur rockers being in a band called The Super Strokers, but they insisted on it. I lost the vote, so that’s what it’s called, I guess, at this point.”

Describing the band’s music as “just insane,” George said that he and Jeff “are sitting here just out of our minds, having so much fun. It’s kind of like all these different projects are really just one big giant project. We just keep trying to say the same thing over and over until we get it right.”

“The Super Stroke thing, like the new Dokken track [that was recorded for the upcoming concert album and DVD], it just seems to be a culmination of all our decades of experience of what we’ve been trying to do forever, and we finally seem to be getting it together,” he explained. “This stuff is just coming out so beautifully, and it’s just so fun to play on and so fun to listen to. I just can’t wait to get it out there in front of people.”

Dokken’s classic lineup reunited for a short Japanese tour in the fall of 2016. It marked the first time in twenty-one years that the classic lineup had hit the road.

A CD and DVD of Dokken’s Japanese tour will tentatively arrive in April. It will feature footage from two of the Japanese shows — including Tokyo — plus the aforementioned brand new song, It’s Just Another Day, for which Dokken filmed a video in January.

GLENN HUGHES DISCUSSES FORMER TRAPEZE AND JUDAS PRIEST DRUMMER DAVE HOLLAND AND SAYS, “[HE] WAS AN INCREDIBLE DRUMMER AND A GREAT GUY”

Bassist/singer Glenn Hughes spoke with the Music Mania podcast the passing of former Trapeze, and Judas drummer, Dave Holland.

Hughes said (as per Blabbermouth.net, “Dave was my first drummer in Trapeze. And what an incredible drummer and a great guy….I’ve lost both members of Trapeze — I’m the last one standing again. Of course, Dave had some difficulties later in life, which we know about. But all I wanna talk about is how great [he] was around me in those early years. Trapeze [was] the ’70s, before I went on to join Purple and Mel went on to join Whitesnake and Dave went on to join Judas Priest. Those were very, very formative years for me, for a young musician from the north of England, to come out to the United States and have a career. Very important.”

MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA, DATES ANNOUNCED

Few rock guitarists have proven to be as influential and enduring as the great Michael Schenker. And March will be a busy month for Schenker, as he will be issuing his latest album on the 2nd, Resurrection, as well as launching a North American tour in support of it – kicking off on the 6th at the Fillmore in Silver Springs, MD, and wrapping up on April 3rd at the Ritz in Tampa, FL.

And what makes this tour truly unique is that it is being billed as Michael Schenker Fest, and will be featuring three classic Michael Schenker Group vocalists (Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, and Robin McAuley), plus the singer of Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock (Doogie White). And in addition to Schenker supplying guitar, he will be joined by second guitarist/keyboardist Steve Mann, bassist Chris Glen, and drummer Ted McKenna. Meet and greet packages are also available for purchase via michaelschenkerfest.com.

First bursting on the scene in the early ‘70s with the Scorpions, the German guitarist and his seemingly always present Flying V were also a crucial reason in UFO becoming one of the world’s top rock bands that same decade (on the strength of such classic recordings as 1977’s Lights Out, 1978’s Obsession, and 1979’s Strangers in the Night), as well as supplying guitar on a Scorpions album that made important inroads into the American market (1979’s Lovedrive). But since 1980, Schenker has been best known for his work with MSG – including such further classic recordings as 1980’s self-titled debut (featuring Barden), 1982’s Assault Attack (featuring Bonnet), and 1987’s Perfect Timing (featuring McAuley).

And soon, lucky North American fans will get the chance to experience all eras of MSG, on a nearby concert stage.

JUDAS PRIEST UNLEASH TITLE TRACK FROM “FIREPOWER” & NEW LIMITED EDITION ITEM

The buzz surrounding legendary metal band Judas Priest’s forthcoming album, Firepower, is undeniably growing louder – on the strength of the video clip for the track Lightning Strike, as well as many of the attractive/limited edition purchasing options made available for fans via PledgeMusic already being sold out. And it will soon reach a fever pitch with the unveiling of another new killer track, plus another limited edition of the forthcoming album being made available for purchase.

Fans can now hear the title track from Firepower below and can purchase a metallic silver-colored cassette version of the album on PledgeMusic and is being issued in an extremely limited pressing of only 300. And if judging from how quickly some of the previous limited edition bundles sold out through the site (such as signed guitars from Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, various colors of autographed vinyl, etc.), this rare cassette version will be an instant rarity and collector’s item.

Set for release on Friday, March 9th, 2018 through Epic Records – the album is comprised of fourteen tracks of pure and highly inspired metal. And to mark the occasion Priest (singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis) has reunited with producer Tom Allom (the man behind the board for all of the band’s releases from 1979-1988, including such stellar classics as Unleashed in the East, British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith) and with Grammy Award-winning producer Andy Sneap also helping to raise the sonic bar even higher.

“Tom Allom has got this classic metal thing,” explains Halford. “And Andy is a bit more of a ‘modern metal producer’ but his thinking is a little bit different to Tom’s. And I think to get this balance between that classic old school metal to what Andy’s world is was just a remarkable coalescence.” “Tom Allom has been with us since 1979, so his knowledge of ourselves and our music in general is immense,” adds Hill. And according to Travis Priest returned back to a recording method that worked incredibly well on the band’s earlier classics – “We went back to the organic way of recording where it’s all of us in a room and we got to play together.”

With the impending arrival of Firepower and its ensuing tour (which kicks off on March 13th), the Priest is back.

Firepower track listing:

1. Firepower
2. Lightning Strike
3. Evil Never Dies
4. Never The Heroes
5. Necromancer
6. Children of the Sun
7. Guardians
8. Rising From Ruins
9. Flame Thrower
10. Spectre
11. Traitors Gate

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM TO BE RELEASED ON MARCH 16TH, 2018 TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

Stone Temple Pilots has announced a March 16th release date for its highly anticipated new self-titled album, Stone Temple Pilots. This marks the band’s first album with the new lead singer, Jeff Gutt.

Despite being one of the best-selling bands of the 1990s with platinum records and a Grammy to its credit, guitarist Dean DeLeo says, “We are thrilled about what lies ahead. The best way for us to honor our past is to keep making new music.”

The band does just that on Stone Temple Pilots. The first single Meadow (currently Top ten at rock radio) and Never Enough channels the gritty guitars and swaggering rhythms that STP perfected on Core (1992), Purple (1994), and No. 4 (1999). Roll Me Under glides along a nimble bass line before slamming into the chorus, where Gutt’s baritone digs in.

Pre-order the album today at stonetemplepilots.com and receive instant downloads of Meadow and Roll Me Under. Exclusive bundles are also available on the site, including vinyl, t-shirt, and a limited edition, hand signed lithographs by the band. The album will also be released on vinyl on May 25th.

In addition to the previously announced dates in March and festival dates this spring, STP has announced 14 new headline dates in May . When asked what to expect on the upcoming tour, Robert DeLeo says,”With so much time and experience gone by in life we feel compelled to dig back into a 30-year catalog and really try to reflect and choose what songs haven’t been performed live. We want to give people who have come to see us in the past a chance to hear something they haven’t heard before at previous STP shows. We want to celebrate this time in our lives with our performances.”

Presale for tickets begins today, and public on-sale February 2nd. A digital copy of the new album, Stone Temple Pilots will be included with every ticket purchased (except where noted * below)
