3/2: TMS RECAP, MICK MARS, NEW KISS HOF INFO.

Hope you guys all enjoyed the all new That Metal Show last night. It’s been great to be able to feature such a wide variety of rock, hard rock and metal in the shows evolution. Guys like Mick Jones and Leslie West have so much history it’s hard to even scratch the surface on TV with the time we have. Was cool seeing Marty Friedman geek out over Mick Jones “Hot Blooded” solo! Huge thanks to Leslie West for the amazing guitar. Had no idea that was coming! One day I MUST learn to play! Was also cool to have Lita jam. She is a big part of our shows history as the first ever guest, and now the first ever woman to perform for us. I did talk with Leslie about the loss of his leg and I did talk with Mick about Lou Gramm and the recent performance at the songwriters HOF but it was cut for time. Some will likely end up as online extras. I’ll post links when I can or visit www.thatmetalshow.vh1.com for more. Show replays all week. Next taping is this Tuesday in NYC with Mick Mars! So cool to have the unsung hero of Motley on our show for the hour. Truly underrated player too! Mick will also be in studio with me tomorrow for a LIVE TRUNKNation 6-10P ET on SiriusXM channel 39. Don’t miss it! More soon.

Quick update on the Kiss R&R HOF drama. My sources telling me that as of now, unless Gene and Paul change their mind and decide to play with the original band, there will be no performance of any kind for the bands induction. Common thought was that perhaps an all star band would be assembled to tribute Kiss since there is no performance from them now with any version of the band. But there will be no tribute either. Likely just a video package on the screens. So where we stand now is no performance at all of any kind related to Kiss, or the original band does a song or two in or out of makeup. And we all no as of now that ain’t happening. Still time for things to change but very reliable sources telling me that’s the HOF position as of now. Also each of the four original members get 3 minutes each for their speeches during the induction and only those inducted are at the podium for those speeches.

  1. I have to be honest, I don’t care one way or the other about Kiss… I was hoping to see Nirvana’s current lineup (you know, with Paul McCartney fronting the band) finally play a Nirvana song. That fiasco is starting to remind me of Sammy refusing to sing Dave’s material… 🙂

While that is said with some sarcasm, I would genuinely LOVE to hear Paul sing even just one Nirvana song… I think he could actually do something cool with it, and he’s even left handed so it would look right too, lol!

  2. This whole KISS thing is beyond insane. Clearly NOT what the fans want or deserve.

And to the person who said the latest TMS sucked, & said Leslie West is an overrated one hit wonder, get a clue. He’s only known for his VERY distinctive tone his fans refer to him as “the king of tone” he’s a damn good melodic guitar player who has influenced the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Michael Schneker, Randy Rhoades & the list goes on & on.

His own influences were Elvis, BB King, Albert King, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards.

Perhaps this is before your time? How anyone could not appreciate his contribution to music is beyond me.

    1. & don’t forget Mick Jones was in the very 1st version of The Leslie West Band with Don Kretmar & Corky Laing just an fyi

  3. It was great seeing Mick Jones and Leslie West and Lita Ford as well as Marty Friedman. Foreigner and Mountain/Leslie West often get overlooked in the Hard Rock genre because people often see them as rock or soft rock and don’t really associate them in the Hard Rock genre. Myself included. I was really surprised to see them on TMS just because I always thought of Foreigner as 70’s/80’s Classic Rock simple as you said on TMS because of the songs ‘Waiting for a Girl Like You’ and ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’. Not as a Hard Rock band. As far as Leslie West goes, he is a new guy I have overlooked simply because I really never knew about him. I had heard of Mountain and their popular song ‘Mississippi Queen’ but to me they were always in the same genre as Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead, Hippy Rock. Its nice to know bands like these, because of you Eddie and TMS, can get there name out there more as far as being Hard Rock bands and open themselves up to a whole new generation of people. I am definitely gonna be checking out Mountain and Leslie West’s solo stuff. See what its all about.

I really Enjoyed seeing Marty Friedman on TMS. He is one of those guitarists I listened to back in the 90’s during his days with Megadeth. I just loved his sound and what ‘deth created back then. I think indirectly it fueled my passion for metal and playing guitar. I listened to your interview with Marty on your SiriusXM show and absolutely loved it! I loved the new music he is coming out with that you played and now am checking out his entire solo catalogue. While I love Chris Broderick, I always wished Marty had stayed with Megadeth. Megadeth sounded the best with Marty and still do. Now don’t get me wrong I love Chris Broderick and the new Megadeth music and love the current lineup and new era of Megadeth but The days with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza were just the best to me. That was the lineup and era that had the best songs and music. Since then Megadeth hasn’t even matched that sound or come close to it. I sure miss those classic records and that sound.

I also loved seeing Lita Ford as guest guitarist. She is a really underrated player. Most people I think don’t really think she can play like she does or they don’t really see her as being able to. But she really rocked it on TMS! I have always liked her even during her days with the Runaways!

Thanks for another great TMS Eddie! This season has been the best! Can’t wait for Mick Mars this week. I would love to see Marty Friedman come on as a guest guitarist and really rock it! Maybe he can do that this season before he heads out on tour in the fall. As a fan, I would be absolutely floored and blown away if he came on as either a guest in the studio or guest guitarist.

  4. Was the reason for Sabbath not playing HOF the same on something completely different? There have been other bands that did not play the HOF for one reason or another. Blondie played with her current band than reunite with past members. John Fogerty would not play with the other CCR members. Of course Sammy and Michael stand alone. The Velvet Revolver tribute to VH was beyond awful. Genesis did not play. HOF was looking for a reunion with Peter Gabriel, they did not get that. More to come.
