3/2: TMS RECAP, MICK MARS, NEW KISS HOF INFO.

Hope you guys all enjoyed the all new That Metal Show last night. It’s been great to be able to feature such a wide variety of rock, hard rock and metal in the shows evolution. Guys like Mick Jones and Leslie West have so much history it’s hard to even scratch the surface on TV with the time we have. Was cool seeing Marty Friedman geek out over Mick Jones “Hot Blooded” solo! Huge thanks to Leslie West for the amazing guitar. Had no idea that was coming! One day I MUST learn to play! Was also cool to have Lita jam. She is a big part of our shows history as the first ever guest, and now the first ever woman to perform for us. I did talk with Leslie about the loss of his leg and I did talk with Mick about Lou Gramm and the recent performance at the songwriters HOF but it was cut for time. Some will likely end up as online extras. I’ll post links when I can or visit www.thatmetalshow.vh1.com for more. Show replays all week. Next taping is this Tuesday in NYC with Mick Mars! So cool to have the unsung hero of Motley on our show for the hour. Truly underrated player too! Mick will also be in studio with me tomorrow for a LIVE TRUNKNation 6-10P ET on SiriusXM channel 39. Don’t miss it! More soon.

Quick update on the Kiss R&R HOF drama. My sources telling me that as of now, unless Gene and Paul change their mind and decide to play with the original band, there will be no performance of any kind for the bands induction. Common thought was that perhaps an all star band would be assembled to tribute Kiss since there is no performance from them now with any version of the band. But there will be no tribute either. Likely just a video package on the screens. So where we stand now is no performance at all of any kind related to Kiss, or the original band does a song or two in or out of makeup. And we all no as of now that ain’t happening. Still time for things to change but very reliable sources telling me that’s the HOF position as of now. Also each of the four original members get 3 minutes each for their speeches during the induction and only those inducted are at the podium for those speeches.

When I follow this KISS hof news, all that keeps playing in my head is how reminicent this of GNR’s induction. Such a shame that my two all-time favorite rock bands (KISS and Guns N Roses) are forever cursed with immature feuding and finger-pointing. I hope Gene and Paul come around some day…Lord knows Axl won’t.

    • Eddie on

I don’t think it’s similar to GnR because Axl said pretty quickly he was not attending at all. That is different than showing and not allowing the others to play. A similar scenario would be Axl coming but saying he will only play with current Guns while Slash, Duff, etc, watched..

It’s a shame that on the Kiss Aerosmith tour, Peter bitched and griped every step of the way. At the end of the KISS farewell tour Ace was so miserable he wouldn’t come back even after the ass kissing Gene did to try and get him back. It’s documented in Ace and Peter’s books. I saw video footage of Ace at his birthday party in 2003, high as ever saying to his fans that the birthday cake Gene brought in was not a sincere jester and he just wants him to go on tour. Eric Singer also crashed that party. Joe Perry called Ace and tried to get him to go out. So when all the fans start pitching a fit because there’s no original KISS, there’s plenty of blame to go around. Gene’s still there and so is Paul, even with his vocal problems. If you listen to Ace or Peter speak about their fans, It’s always “my fans ” even when they were in KISS it seemed to be about themselves and didn’t come across to me as being team players. I still believe, had they not become drug users and alcoholics, they’d have been in the band for 40 years. I loved the original KISS but I’ll take the current line up over NO KISS.

All valid points about the past and plenty of blame for all to go around, but this is all about NOW and the HOF, and Ace and Peter are not high and haven’t been for many years. But rarely is any credit given for the people they are NOW.

    • Dwayne Cole on

Yeah, Eddie, they seem to be sober. I would have killed to have gig like that and I believe to this day that Ace let Gene and Paul intimidate him. Rather than stand his ground and explain why he felt the way he did as he did on the Elder, he seems to just want out and I think he could have had more input on Psycho Circus. You are obviously friends with him. So, it’s mostly speculation on my part. Thanks

    • Eddie on

Many sides to the story but my only point is we are talking about NOW and the HOF. Why things that happened 12 years ago are being thrown out in regards to this one night I don’t get

    • Dwayne Cole on

I understand that, Just pointing out a few things for the Gene & Paul haters who voice loudly, every time the subject comes up.

I get that it isn’t exactly the same thing, and I know you’re supposed to “let go”, but if you’ve dedicated your entire life to something, and making it as big as it could possibly be, and you have someone else that has continually and regularly worked at cross-purposes to your vision, I don’t think it is at all unreasonable to say “too much water has gone under the bridge” ESPECIALLY when there have been at least four people (Carr, Kulick, Singer, Thayer at a minimum) that have shown dedication to the cause and HAVE put the band first. Some of us forget that G&P have always been very forgiving to people that have crossed them (Vinnie Vincent is a great example) and have given A&P multiple chances. Yeah, I know “it is today” and “the people they are today”, but I remember all kinds of quotes from around the original reunion where it was all “kumbaya” and Ace was “clear and clean and sober” and was ready to right the wrongs and yadda yadda… and he wasn’t. I’m not saying G&P are blameless here, but all this talk about “branding” I think misses the fundamental point. I think this is like saying “Okay, ex-wife, you are an addict and you had affairs on me for the better part of 40 years, but even though I’m happily remarried, I’m expected to forget everything and take you as my “plus one” to a family function”. I’m not sure all the so-called “die-hards” here could actually do that.

Ace & Peter have had so many opportunities to get it right on a musical level, but have fallen short. I mean Tommy had to teach them their drum & guitar parts for the reunion tour. Why not just sit down & put the work in. Also, Peter & Ace have taken their jabs at Eric & Tommy over the years, which were totally uncalled for. Tommy & Eric have been nothing but respectful & progressional during their time in Kiss. Lastly I would like to see you (Eddie) give a good critique of Peter & Ace’s most recent musical works….song by song. Just to remind everyone, Ace & Peter have released 4 studio/solo albums of new material since their departure from Kiss (over 30 years).

    • Patrick Marrapese on

Ace says he’s sober, and maybe it was just an accident, but last year while playing a lame solo, he fell off the front of the stage at bb kings…..I don’t know what more to say….ace was my first guitar hero…kiss became my first favorite rock band……kiss is still one of my favorite rock bands and the only reason they re still around is because gene and Paul found two guys who show up sober and are rock solid every night, without complaining….ace and peter did not cherish their position in the band the way gene and Paul do….this whole rrhof is just disheartening because the hall is not truly honoring the band……the band is so much more than the four originals…..a perfect solution would be gene Paul peter ace playing a song, kulick singer gene and Paul a non make up era song, and Gene Paul tommy Eric playing a song off sonic boom or monster…however….

    • Eddie on

I was there. he was not high. He fell right in front of me. Small stage and the corners were not painted. Everyone so wants to think he is still fucked up. Doesn’t make a good headline if he isn’t

    • Patrick Marrapese on

I’ll accept it was an accident…..This whole situation is just extremely disappointing, and I’m beginning to feel like kiss will be treated poor, without respect, on the night of the induction, However, I’ll be there hoping for the best, but my instincts tell me that I should just look forward to the complete event, because I think the kiss contribution to the evening is going yo be extremely limited…..

Eddie, I think your opinions are starting to carry a little weight with the RRHOF. Please don’t ruin your reputation by calling for someone like Lita Ford to be in the Hall of Fame. Although she has probably inspired some women to pick up a guitar her music is not of that caliber. I think you know that. You have really good taste in music but sometimes I think your personal relationships might cloud your judgement. I love your shows and agree with you most the time. I don’t want your credibility to take a hit. Thoughts?

    • Eddie on

Lita is a pioneer for female rock music along with the other Runaways. While I agree the music catalog is not all strong, there are WAY many bands currently in the HOF that also don’t have great catalogs. If influence is the #1 criteria as they claim hard to deny Joan, Lita, etc should not be there one day. But certainly not before TONS of others still being snubbed like DEEP PURPLE!

    • gary s. on

Speaking of Lita. How is the relationship with her and Joan Jett? Any possibility of getting her on TMS? That would be such an informative session getting them two together. Talk about long awaited reunions?

    • Norm Bouthillier on

lets settle the hall of fame question right now…It should not exist!!! Be its very creation it is selectively leaving out someone… however some leave no doubt. The hall of fame should be made up of acts who when you hear the name…say Hall of Fame…and debate they are out. I love Styx and REO ,,as well as a huge Kiss fan…but do they belong in the Hall of Fame>???? Get rid of it and everyone is happy

    • Tom Williams (Damon Savich) on

Love Lita, and got to hang with Cherie Currie on her recent solo tour. The Runaways were a very big influence on me as a kid, I mean, who didn’t think that particular group of girls were the hottest thing going. If not for the fact that KISS was also on the scene at that time, The Runaways might have become even more of a phenom. Hell, the fact that were still talking about these bands is inspirational to me as a 50 year old vocalist myself. My hope is that Joan Jett will get down off the pedestal and agree to do a reunion show or tour with Cherie, Jackie and Lita.. with a “tribute” theme for their fallen friend, Sandy. The KISS thing is also close to home for me, since I followed them, worked with them, and still consider them all friends. Ace & Pete played with the band for a little more than ten years originally. The reunion tour was pretty damned cool, and also brought to light some of Pete’s health issues and led to him bowing out. Ace is just Ace. He’s gonna have a drink or a smoke whenever he wants, and his weakness is that he’s not reliable for longtime commitments. KISS have never been a “jump up and jam” band. Everything is well rehearsed and choreographed with precision. The current lineup of KISS is a well oiled machine, and that stripped down benefit show they just did with Tom Jones was very good indeed! Raw and tight. I think the “Hall of Lame” needs to treat KISS with the same respect they give Fleetwood Mac or Aerosmith, etc. The current players have been in place for a long time, now, and deserve the accolades, too. The original guys deserve credit for the creation of KISS and bringing the “characters” to life through music…. but I’d like to see them all on stage. I’d like to see Eric Singer wearing Eric Carr’s Fox makeup, while Tommy Thayer and Bruce Kulick could be there without the makeup. I’d even like to see Vinnie Vincent get the accolades. He should be there in makeup, too. I think they could put together a four song set, and have players positioned all over the stage & blow the HOF show away. Why not? I hope they are reading this. Look me up on Facebook through my ReverbNation site, and check out the work I did for KISS there. Get it together, KISS!! We all know you can rock the place down, so why not just buckle down and do it!!! Thanks for rallying for them to be be inducted, Eddie! I am pretty sure the RARHOF is very happy about this years ceremony. I feel they knew this would happen . They were counting on KISS fans to buy tickets for the show. They used them and now they can work the show around the other artist.

  • Dwayne Cole on

I still believe The current Line up should play a couple of songs with Ace, Peter and Bruce. Metallica and the Eagles put their differences aside for one night. John Fogerty made it clear that he would never play with the guys in CCR again and obviously, he meant it.

    • Dwayne Cole on

Of course with out make up. I understand Ace not wanting to be on stage looking at Tommy in his make up.
