FRONTMAN STEPHEN PEARCY ON HIS FORMER BAND RATT: “30 YEARS IS ENOUGH TIME TO BE IN SOMETHING THAT’S SO VOLATILE”

stephenpearcy400 Former Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy says he walked out on the band for the last time because he felt three decades of “volatile” living was enough.

He believes the notoriously unstable band changed for the worse when guitarist Robbin Crosby died in 2002 – but his offer of returning for a final album remains open.

Pearcy, who quit in April, tells Inappropriate Earl, “30 years is enough time to be in something that’s so volatile. Things weren’t proper.”

He reports he’s enjoying life more with his solo band, although he’s not planning to stage any large-scale tours. “There’s less drama and there’s less overall business structure,” he says. “It’s more back to basics. I just like getting out there once in a while.”

The singer describes Crosby’s death after a heroin overdose as “the end of the Ratt tale, so to speak,” adding, “I knew it would never be the same. No disrespect to whoever else stepped in. It’s just not the same – and hence all the catastrophe that followed.”

Speaking about the chance of recording a follow-up to 2010’s Infestation, Pearcy says, “If it’s the four original guys, that would be cool. If not, you’ll get what you got before. We’ll see.”

However, if it doesn’t happen, he reflects, “I’m happy with my legacy. We do very well for ourselves, so it’s all good. I can live with it and move on. The heyday is over with.”

Drummer Bobby Blotzer reacted to Pearcy’s departure earlier this year by accusing him of being “delusional” – but added he’d welcome “the nice Stephen” back into the fold.

The 4 Original members ? Is Steve saying he doesn’t want Carlos there ,or is he saying he wants to make sure Juan is there? I thought Infestation was great and would love to see a new Ratt album with all original members, but please include Carlos. The one and only single guitarist album Ratt recorded sucked.

  2. RATT & ROLL “Out Of The Cellar”, and come “Back For More” Stephen. Ratt needs you as much as you need them, so resolve your “Lack Of Communication”, and keep Ratt running “Round And Round”! :)

  3. Crap tunes will deflate any new album. Ask Carlos about it with Quiet Riot. “No large scale tours”. Since when is Pearcy in a “large scale tour”? The day he played that restaurant outside Boston some years back was when I knew Ratt-less he’s help-less.

    • MILKMONEY says:

A large scale tour to these guys is a county fair in a small town in ARKANSAS with 20 people in attendance who are there only because the stage is near the bathrooms. Win a stuffed bear throwing darts at balloons or see RATT. Dude I’m going for the bear.

      • RyanHarmon says:

Sadly, you’re fairly spot on. Ratt hasn’t played here in a long time. Stephen did a solo show here a couple of years ago, and there was nobody. A friend of mine went and said there were MAYBE 10 people, and it was advertised well, since it was a Clear Channel show. They made it clear it was Stephen Pearcy: Original Lead Vocalist of Ratt, so you can’t blame the advertising or wording. I would hope they could pull more than 20 as Ratt, though, because I’m pretty much a small-time artist, and I get bigger crowds than that. LOL! Aside from the occasional festival (ex: Rocklahoma, or the now defunct Rock N’ America), the interest for 2nd tier 80’s bands in this area is down. 3rd tier bar bands do okay, since there’s a huge bar/club scene down here. You can go to a Quiet Riot or Winger show at a club here, and it’ll have a pretty good draw. Other than that, the only 80’s bands that get really good crowds are the obvious commercial ones like Bon Jovi.

  4. Pearcy will return when he runs out of money

  5. metalmania says:

I’m not sure what the “you’ll get what you got before” comment is supposed to mean. If that means something like “Infestation”, then bring it on! That album rocked! Weren’t they already well into the process of writing and/or recording the followup when he left? I thought Juan Croucier was already on board for that?

  6. Mark Weichold says:

    Stephen, Stephen, Stephen,
We all know that Robin was your best friend and confidant and in your heart his death eats and yearns you at all times. What I am still confused about is that in your book you became the heroin addict in the end, is it the drugs, booze and excess that has gotten to you? Infestation was the best work Ratt has probably ever done (not a fan of the entire Ratt albums from back in the day) just singles. Carlos is by far the best muciscan to grace Ratt’s presence then again it is or was your baby and you see it how you see it. Too bad for us I think all the good bands are just about DONE!!!

  7. Fred Nugent says:

Large scale tours? Is Pearcy talking about buying a ticket too see Kiss??

  8. I hope he’s not slagging Carlos Cavazo. Carlos brings an “a” game to the band. Infestation was fantastic. Do whatever you want Steve. You always do, but your fan base is aging rapidly and there’s only so many more years people will pay to see RATT in concert. We all know hardly any bands make jack shit on record sales anymore.

  9. You make money touring…Carlos has zilch coming in from signed away royalties on dead unit back catalog….I’m sure he’s bugging you to Ratt & Roll not Pearcy at 80’s revival festivals. Who wants to see Ratt without Pearcy or Pearcy without Ratt?

  10. Stephen looks like a female junkie. Cover up, cut your hair and eat something. How did Jaini Lane fare outside of WARRANT? Stephen is a talented singer but offers no star power. Nobody’s paying to see him with a bunch of other guys. WAY COOL JUNIOR is 3AM drunk listening to music and we’re too old for that now. It is RATT or nothing my friend. It has been 25 years since the descent of heavy metal, cherish the fans you have left and stop the nonsense with watered down RATT. Either sing or do a sex tape. Stop talking.
STEPHEN PEARCY COMES UP TO ME ONE DAY
WHEN I’M WALKING DOWN THE STREET MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS
HE LOOKS ME UP AND HE LAYS IT DOWN
AND SAYS WHAT BE THIS AND WHAT BE THAT AND WHY YOU GOTTA LOOK LIKE THAT
I KIND OF LAUGH AND SAY STEVIE RAY VAUGHN YOU DIED 30 YEARS AGO

  11. Stephen doesn’t want to be in the band unless it’s “the four original guys”. It’s not hard to read into what he means by that and who he wants out of the band. I think Carlos is a great addition to Ratt. Stephen will be back, don’t worry. They’ll be at odds for a while, slam each other in the press, do their own thing and then they’ll patch things up and reunite.

  12. Stephen…..you were scheduled to be the Opening Act at Hairapalooza in Pinellas Park, Florida with Slaughter, Great White and Winger. You were clearly embarrassed and canceled out. Wake up and smell the Ratt!!!

  13. craziecabbie says:

Richman live and let live! Who are you tell someone how they should look and stop posting 32 year old Kiss Lyrics Dam Fool!

    • I AM THE CRAZY MAN
      WHO LIVES INSIDE YOUR HEAD
BUT I THINK I’M BREAKING THROUGH THE WALL
      YOU ARE THE INNOCENT
      CONVICTED OF THE CRIME
      NO ONE WAS EVER THERE
TO CATCH YOU WHEN YOU FALL
      I SEE THE DIAMONDS
BUT YOU ONLY SEE THE ROCK
      I NEED TO RUN
      BUT YOU ONLY CRAWL
      IT’S TIME TO OPEN UP
ALL THE DOORS THAT YOU KEEP LOCKED
      NOBODY GIVES WITHOUT A TAKE
      LET’S TAKE IT ALL

  14. jeez louise says:

I saw Ratt in January of this year in Petaluma calif. It was one of there “warmup” gigs for the reunion. They sounded awesome! It was great seeing Juan back with the band with all his energy and very god backup vocals. It was Bobby that pussed out because his neck hurt and they had Jimmy Degrasso fill in, he played Bobbys parts better than Bobby, lol. They should have just kept the ball rolling with Jimmy and tell Bobby to fuck off. And definitely keep Carlos, him and Warren would be one of the best dual guitar combos out there.

  15. It’s a good thing that he’s not planning to stage any large-scale tours for his solo band, because there isn’t much demand for one. In a related story, I’m not accepting any dates with Kate Upton at this time.

  16. Was interesting to see Stephen on That Metal Show several years ago. He had on just a white tank top, and I forget who asked, but a question was asked to him if he ever ran into any old groupies from back in the day…He said, yea, and some of them are FUGLY…dude, did you not walk by a mirror that day? It was ironic for HIM to say, cuz he looked like a quarter when a dollar wasn’t enough.
Good luck to him and the band. I really liked the first two albums. After reading these posts I’ll have to check out Infestation.

  17. Hairapalooza….and an opening act. Does he dream of ’85 with 19,000 every city? That Ratt duo on guitar with some bozo taking over vocals sounds like road tar on a banana split.

  18. John Alonzo says:

Like Ratt is actually going to be missed. They gave us their best, no need to beat a dead horse.

  19. GregLavall says:

I agree With Cabbie the Richman is a Loser!

    • Greg et al,

Can we please try to omit all the personal attacks and name calling? Do grown men really have to resort to acting like teenage mean girls?

Thank you in advance of your future cooperation on this matter,
      Dana from ET.com :)

      • Yeah Greg. Even though I think you obviously suffer from acute paranoia and insecurity, cause why else would you tag along on someone else’s lame insult which was already lame to begin with and thus show your even superior lameness – I’m not going to publicly state that you suffer from acute paranoia and insecurity. If you don’t understand the Richman, I apologize that we can’t sink down to your level of thinking and dummy things up a bit more for you. Perhaps you could head back to the kids’ table while the adults are talking. Thanks and take care.

  20. craziecabbie says:

I agree Dana when uneducated grown men stuck in the eighties living in their mothers basement offend people , It can cause problems for the people monitoring websites posting articles about musicians that have not mattered in thirty years.

    • Hey Crazie Cabbie,

Thanks for the support (eye roll) and for proving my point. Also, if these bands haven’t mattered in 30 years, why exactly are you here?

If you would like to continue this stimulating discourse, please take it off site, and e-mail me at: DSR822@aol.com.

  21. MILKMONEY says:

This is why I don’t post here anymore. You guys all pile on each other like freaks and lunatics. RICHMAN is spot on for the first time ever aside from saying that Stephen is talented. I told him to stop with ALL HELL’S BREAKING LOOSE a year ago. RATT is the worst ever band in the history of rock music and that guy in the picture does look like a female junkie. Why defend Stephen? He has a bad reputation and JUVE is correct to say who is Stephen to call anyone FUGLY. RATT is dreadful, Stephen Pearcy is hideous and you dopes who defend him are pathetic. MILKMONEY speaks the truth and you all must listen.

  22. Joe Pensanti says:

Juan, Bobby and Warren were the whole sound and soul of Ratt. Pearcy was and still is annoying sounding and has zero stage presence. Every single time I have seen Ratt in the 80’s, the opening act(s) wiped the floor with them, mainly due to Pearcy’s “I’m so cool I don’t need to put on a show” attitude and their just godawful live sound. I don’t know why, but they always sonically stunk in concert.

  23. Didja read Blotz contacted Michaels for work? Hilarious. Michaels filled the slot with his own choice (cheaper). Sorry Blotz…..that down time getting another singer does hurt paying your bills but seriously…dumpy indian casinos and South Cheyenne Wyoming gigs? Give Pearcy the better percentage and Ratt & Roll…double up with Cinderella.
