AC/DC’S BRIAN JOHNSON RETURNS TO THE STAGE

Former AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson and Robert Plant joined Paul Rodgers onstage in Oxford for a cover of Barrett Strong track, Money (That’s What I Want).

The show at the city’s New Theatre was part of Rodgers’ Free Spirit UK tour and saw all three frontmen share vocals, with Plant also providing harmonica. Watch the video below.

The live performance marked a return to the stage for Johnson, who was forced to bow out of AC/DC in March last year after doctors warned him he faced total hearing loss if he continued. The band hired Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose to complete their Rock Or Bust world tour.

Johnson said at the time, “My entire focus is to continue medical treatment to improve my hearing. I am hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances. While the outcome is uncertain, my attitude is optimistic.”

He’s been working with audio experts Asius on a solution with their chief scientist Stephen Ambrose telling TeamRock in October that Johnson could return to performing live “within six months to a year.”

  1. Great news!! I hope this is Brian’s first step to a return to the live stage and eventual return to AC/DC. Axl Rose did a better job as a “fill in” than I thought he would, but Brian belongs in his rightful place as vocalist for AC/DC

    1. I watched it on Velocity all the time, bro, I love that show! Actually, I DVR’d it most of the time, due to the fact that it was on Saturday nights at 10, most of the time at that time I’m either gambling, or partying my ass off, or both! I hope there are new episodes in the future, Brian is a great host, and a great car enthusiast!

    2. Hold on, bro! I just checked my guide, new episodes this Saturday on Velocity, cool! New times, 8p.m., 11p.m., and 3a.m., I might be able to catch that one, without having to use my DVR! 😉

  2. Unfortunately, I don’t think AC/DC will be coming back. Cliff doesn’t want to tour anymore, Malcom has dementia, and Phil is a wacked out drug addict. If it is just Angus and Brian with a backing band, is it really AC/DC anymore? Just another example of our heroes getting older and fading away. Sad but true!

  3. So great to see Brian Johnson back onstage again! Paul Rodgers, Robert Plant, Brian Johnson, all onstage at the same time, that’s a lot of talent right there!

I’m surprised Gene never did a cover of “Money (That’s What I want),” perfect song for The Demon, LOL! 😉
