THE ROCK N’ ROLL HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES IT’S CLASS OF 2015, WHERE IS DEEP PURPLE???

deeppurple2011 Phil Gallo of Billboard reports:

The punk trio Green Day is the 48th act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, joining acts such as Nirvana, R.E.M. and the Clash as first-ballot honorees. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Lou Reed will join them in the class of 2015 being inducted April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall.

In addition, Ringo Starr will be honored with the Award for Musical Excellence and the “5” Royales will receive the Early Influence Award.

The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, Kraftwerk, N.W.A, Sting and Chic were among acts on the ballot that did not make cut.

A voting body of more than 700 artists, historians and members of the music industry chose the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2015 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1989.

Induction ceremony presenters, performers and broadcast information as well as additional details about the week of events leading up the show ceremony will be announced at a later date.

Everyone has already said it but again DP not being inducted, and not even on the fan vote list, is absurd. Rush, Kiss, Alice Cooper, etc who they finally put in after a ridiculous amount of years were in way past their first year of eligibility and Priest not even being a thought makes no sense…but by far the biggest joke for me as it is today is Green Day not only getting in, but getting in first year eligible??? What the hell did they do except suck?? If you like the punk “swing” they have great, but groundbreaking, influencing or RRHOF worthy they are not…to have the list of bands that are not in and have them not only in, but first year eligible just compounds the fact that the RRHOF is not something any band or artist should care about. It is an embarrassment.

Unfortunately before Priest or Purple will ever be considered; the RNRHOF will induct:
    – The Spin Doctors
    – Enya
    – Vince Neil’s solo band
    – Bob and Doug McKenzie
    – Keith Urban
    – Alvin and the Chipmunks
    – William Shatner
    and Nickelback.

As a Texan and a guitarist and knowing how incredibly influential Stevie Ray Vaughan is, I’m happy he’s being inducted along with his band, Double Trouble, because it’s very deserved. But I’ve grown tired of the RRHOF disrespecting classic, influential iconic rock bands, Deep Purple being the main band that’s being so wrongly snubbed. Look who keeps getting left out: Priest, Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Ted Nugent, Scorpions, Bad Company, Motorhead. I’m not a fan of Bon Jovi, but they deserve to be in to as well as Journey, Foreigner and Styx. The list goes on and on, but oh no, let’s ignore these great deserving artists and let’s inducted Green Day instead the first year they’re eligible. That is so wrong! It’s absurd! I’m pissed!

And another thing: Green Day sucks! “Punk band”? I don’t think so. They are a bunch of snotty little brats who played slightly uptempo, downstroked, 2-3 chord songs, had short dyed hair, made ridiculously stupid wannabe anarchist snarls at any camera pointed at them but in fact they were nothing more than a bubble gum pop act dressed up to look and act like they and the legion of 13 year old girls they attracted thought a punk rock band should look and act like. I have a 14 year old nephew who is taking advanced guitar lessons and studying music theory who made me so proud by saying when he was 11 he was a better musician than Billie Joe Armstrong’s ever been. My nephew is a slightly arrogant snotty little brat in his own right, but has more in your face, “f*** you!” punk rock attitude than those Green Day wimps ever had. But at the same time, my nephew can play Dream Theater songs note for note on the guitar, loves Lamb Of God, Mastodon and Black Label Society and thinks Green Day is a joke. The fact that they are being inducted ahead of Deep Purple is not a joke, it’s a slap in the face to Deep Purple and the millions of fans and musicians they’ve inspired for close to 50 years. I’ll end with this: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, F*** YOU!

      James,

No need for you, Eddie and everyone else get their nuts twisted on this topic.
Jann Wenner and his merry band of clueless “critics” have decided what makes up “Rock and Roll”.

Chic and NWA are Rock and Deep Purple and a slew of others are not.
That says it all right there.

Paul Stanley said it best in last year’s induction ceremony.

95% if not more of guitar players will tell you Smoke on the Water was the first lick they learned and that riff alone is more deserving than some of the bands they allow in the RRHOF.

Deep Purple is the greatest hard rock band ever. At least that’s the way Eddie signed his book to me. It’s amazing how the HOF ignores Deep Purple. They have sold more records, influenced more bands and have played to more people than most of the people in the HOF. So why are they not in? There can only be one real answer. The people who vote are F ing stupid!
