THE ROCK HALL ANNOUNCE POSSIBLE 2019 INDUCTEES: DEF LEPPARD. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RADIOHEAD, STEVIE NICKS AND OTHERS, BUT NO JUDAS PRIEST

It’s that time again, the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame have announced their lead nominees for class of 2019.

On the list: Radiohead, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, Rage Against the Machine, the Cure, Devo, Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Roxy Music, Todd Rundgren, John Prine, MC5, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan and the Zombies.

The top vote-getters will be announced in December and inducted March 29th, 2019 at a ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. HBO will broadcast the event later next year.

To be eligible for this year’s ballot, each nominee’s first single or album had to released in 1993 or earlier. Several of the nominees have appeared on previous ballots, but this is first appearance for Def Leppard, Devo, Prine, Roxy Music, Nicks and Rundgren. Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine both made their debut appearance last year in their first period of eligibility. This is the fifth appearance for Kraftwerk and LL Cool J, the fourth for the Zombies, the third for Janet Jackson and Rufus featuring Chaka Khan and the second for the Cure.

A voting pool of more than 1,000 artists, historians, journalists and members of the music industry will select the new class, and once again fans will have a chance to be a part of the process. They can vote on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website or visit the museum in Cleveland and make a selection at an interactive kiosk.

As in recent years, the Hall of Fame has announced the individual members of each band that will be inducted. The current lineup of Def Leppard is listed along with the late Steve Clark and original guitarist Pete Willis.

  1. Here we go! Priest and Maiden will be left out until the uproar becomes too great to ignore, like it did with Deep Purple. True pioneers in rock music doesn’t count. Let’s induct LL Figgin’ Cool J or Kraftwerk (are they serious!) I see bands like that on the ballot and no Judas Priest or Iron Maiden or Motörhead, among others, and it makes me worry about Eddie’s blood pressure.

On a positive note, the MC5 are at least on the ballot. That band was a true bunch of badasses their prime. Ted Nugent himself said they were an inspiration (why is Uncle Ted not on the ballot?) And Stevie Nicks and Def Leppard are definitely deserving of being inducted, even though Stevie is already in with Fleetwood Mac.

Who keeps trying to get Janet Jackson in? Is Tito on the nomination committee?

    1. Please forgive me, Doug R., I know you are a fan, but I am just super frustrated.

Stevie “machine gun, or it is a bah-ing lamb vocals?” Nicks will be inducted before the Metal God? Oh puhleeze! To each their own, but I can’t stand Fleetwood Mac, either, even though Priest covered one of their songs. Don’t even get me started on some of the other possible inductees.

I LOVE Def Leppard, but the Rock Hall is a JOKE.

    2. Dana, I am a HUGE Stevie Nicks fan, and Fleetwood Mac, but I agree with you 100% on Judas Priest, of course they should be in! (See my post next page) >
But it ain’t Nicks’ or Mac’s fault JP still isn’t in, it’s the dumbasses at the R&RHOF!!!

  2. Where’s Priest? Maiden? Motorhead? All more worthy and influential than some of the other nominees.

I think Rage Against the Machine will be inducted just because of Tom Morello, whom I can’t stand because, as a musician, I think he should keep his politics to himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if he “takes a knee” at the Ceremony, a la Colin Kaepernick!

    1. I like Def Leppard but influential? Like Fleetwood Mac, but Stevie Nicks No. Pat Benetar and The Metal God should be in if anything Judas Priest and Pat benatar are more sited as influences than Steive Blah blah blah Nicks
rRhF still no damn clue just picking bands and people to fill the attendance at their silly museum.
Who keeps on nominating Chaka Kahn?

    2. Agreed a thousand percent, Charles.

Pat Benatar can sing. Plus, her voice has power and range, unlike the AK-47 vocals of Nicks, along with her pseudo Wiccan black lace wannabe image, YUCK. Never liked her, never will, so overrated.

Now, Joan Jett, despite not having a voice as dynamic as Bentar, I love, she has attitude for days. Lita’s cool, too.

    3. I love Pat Benatar as much as (maybe more) than anybody! IMO, Benatar, Nugent, and of course JP are the 3 biggest snubs as of this moment. Anybody see Stevie Nicks’ performance at the Us Festival in ’83? Just curious. Anyway, I love Nick’s almost as much as Benatar, very different stlyes of course, but both great at what they do. They each have their own technique that works for them, and for most people who listen to them and love their music. Nicks didn’t influence Benatar as much as she inspired her, and I’m glad she did.

    4. I apologize for my 2 typos up there, ^ (Nick’s) should’ve been NICKS, and (stlyes) should’ve been STYLES. I was distracted by cooking, my wife, and a f–king hurricane! LOL!!

  3. Tom Morello has done a lot of good work for very poor agricultural workers; I wrote a paper about the terrible working conditions of the field workers who were contracted by the corporation who owns Taco Bell. Lol…I called my paper “For Whom the Bell Tolls” but seriously, Morello did so much campaigning and great work for these people it did impress me.
