Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, never one to censor himself, has reportedly taken a couple of potshots at Metallica and Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford.
According to Loudwire, the singer recently chastised Halford for apparently using a teleprompter to help him remember lyrics during live shows. “People pay good money and you can’t even remember the sodding words,” exclaims Dickinson. “The daftest one I ever saw was Breaking the Law.”
Also, back in 2011 Dickinson told Metal Hammer that Iron Maiden were a much better band than Metallica.
“I got into trouble for saying that we’re better than Metallica … and, it’s true!” Dickinson added, “They might be bigger than us and they might sell more tickets than us and they might get more gold-plated middle-class bourgeoisie turning up to their shows but they’re not Maiden. I did say it’s a bit of a wind-up. I thought, if I’m going to turn into an a–hole, I might as well, you know, go for it!”
In a new interview with the Guardian, Dickinson’s comments were brought up to Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, who offered a humble response. “I will never argue with that,” says Ulrich. “I will always support Bruce Dickinson in whatever nonsense he says. That’s part of the fun. So go Iron Maiden! It’s fine.”

If Mick can use one, Halford can too. I doubt he really needs it anyway.
Maiden are legends and so are Priest. Metallica is the most overrated band of all-time.

Bruce is no doubt the best vocalist of those 3 powerhouses but if Bruce wants to talk shit someone should mention IRON MAIDEN’S hideous music videos from the 1980s. Anyone out there remember VIDEO PIECES? I’m not a videos fan but that garbage seriously discredits those great songs. It is like Benny Hill set to NUMBER OF THE BEAST. So Brucie, leave Halford alone (his solo stuff is better than yours too) and James deserves a break too. That poor bastard has dealt with metals most unsavory characters over the years and always came out ahead.

Bruce and Rob toured and recorded together and have been friends along time. The One You Love to Hate is a classic.
Metallica fuckin blows and couldn’t hold a candle to Maiden who still put on one the best shows in music.
Metallica is 100 times the band that Priest or Maiden could ever hope to be. You obviously belong to the pathetic crowd that hates Metallica because it’s the cool thing to do.

While you are certainly entitled to your choice, to call others whom prefer Priest and Maiden to Metallica, pathetic, makes you look just as bad Dickinson. Not everyone is into thrash metal.
On a related note, I have to commend Lars Ulrich for taking the high road. In this case, the student came off way better than the teacher.
