Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, never one to censor himself, has reportedly taken a couple of potshots at Metallica and Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford.
According to Loudwire, the singer recently chastised Halford for apparently using a teleprompter to help him remember lyrics during live shows. “People pay good money and you can’t even remember the sodding words,” exclaims Dickinson. “The daftest one I ever saw was Breaking the Law.”
Also, back in 2011 Dickinson told Metal Hammer that Iron Maiden were a much better band than Metallica.
“I got into trouble for saying that we’re better than Metallica … and, it’s true!” Dickinson added, “They might be bigger than us and they might sell more tickets than us and they might get more gold-plated middle-class bourgeoisie turning up to their shows but they’re not Maiden. I did say it’s a bit of a wind-up. I thought, if I’m going to turn into an a–hole, I might as well, you know, go for it!”
In a new interview with the Guardian, Dickinson’s comments were brought up to Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, who offered a humble response. “I will never argue with that,” says Ulrich. “I will always support Bruce Dickinson in whatever nonsense he says. That’s part of the fun. So go Iron Maiden! It’s fine.”

Rob is a better singer. Looks like Bruce has a Napolean complex…just a bit. Nobody wants to hear his rants!!
Listen he’s entitled to his opinion, but it does sound a bit like sour grapes and just seems like an unnecessary remark.
So what if Rob uses a teleprompter? God knows, there are so many worse things in life. At least he has talent. I would take the Metal God and a few cue cards any day over a majority of many other musicians who can sing every word without any assistance.

Always the voice of reason! Thanks Dana! I have seen Priest 6 times and I certainly could never tell if he was using one and like many have said, who the hell cares??? It is the VOICE I care about. I believe Halford is like 62 years old. Give the man a break. His range and clarity is STILL better than 99% of the metal hacks out there! I know these two are good friends. Let’s just hope Bruce had too many cocktails and regretted what he said.
Thank you, my Priest co-pilot 🙂
Cheers,
D 🙂
You are more than welcome! Already pre-ordered the Redeemer of Souls CD…all the songs so far kick ass!
I would have to agree with Bruce. Technically? Yes much better and better live. My only problem with maiden is they hate America and refuse to do any extensive tours here. I totally get why to a point, with the US being a black hole for rock/metal these days. But come on guys this is the place that made you what you are you cant go to Chicago, LA, NY etc and then stop! How about coming to Indy, cincy, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee etc….. Do an extensive us tour in middle America and the venue will sell out.
Maybe they’d sell more records here if they did.
Each to there! Freedom of speech still has a place in this world! Bruce shouldn’t burn to many bridges going to start looking like Gene/Paul. I my self never got into Metallica but I’m going to bash then considering they have more money than I could ever make so there doing something right
True Brian, but he should have taken the high road here.
He should take a cue from Halford who seems to carry himself with much more dignity and class. This isn’t the first time his mouth has landed him in hot water, and as a former Educator, he should set a better example.

eek! Not sure what brought this all about. Why is Bruce “stirring the pot”? I mean, in my opinion, he is correct on both issues. I won’t see Priest anymore live. Why would I want to pay all that money to see Rob reading from (as one guy on here called) a Obama-prompter err teleprompter LOL. I saw them 10 years ago (Priest). Never again. I love Rob’s voice, but I won’t pay anything to see someone reading from a prompter. And Maiden is far superior band than Metallica. But, why is Bruce saying all this? LOL Maybe he does need a nap. haha
Fucken Stiff Ass Brit. But an honest Stiff Ass Brit, who has vote as a fan. Up the Irons.
