ROCKET MAN MEETS ENTER SANDMAN? ELTON JOHN SAYS HE RECORDED SOMETHING WITH METALLICA

During the most recent episode of his Apple Music 1 show Rocket Hour, Elton John told guest SG Lewis that he recorded “something” with thrash metal icons.

“I’ve just done something with Metallica, he divulged. “During this lockdown period, I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that. I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people…”

Earlier this year, Miley Cyrus detailed her upcoming Metallica cover album and revealed that she enlisted John to play piano on Nothing Else Matters. Could his recent recording session with the band have anything to do with that? Guess, we will all find out at some point.

Let me imagine what the backlash to this news will be (and have some fun)…

Metallica has sucked ever since they sold out for the Black Album. First they went commercial, then they cut their really cool long and flowing hair, then they stopped dressing in rad denim jackets with the Venom logo on the back, then they did wussy s**t like working with an orchestra and some guy named Lou Reed. Lars even went and lost his hair (SO not metal, dude!). And now this?!?!? Elton John?!?! Miley Cyrus!?!? This is just one more nail in the coffin to alienate me. I want them to go back to dressing and sounding just like they did for Kill ’em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice! Also, would it kill them to rebuild L’Amour’s and play there every Saturday night for just me and my friends?

I wish they could rebuild L’Amour…

RTunes! I 100% agree with you about Meh-tallica. Ever since the “Blah-k” album, I’ve lost interest in them. And I, too, don’t understand performing with an orchestra. I enjoy their 80’s thrash music cuz it crushes….to have those same thrash songs played with an orchestra totally neuters those thrash classics, IMO. How this band continues to be relevant today (with a lead guitarist and drummer who’s play has gotten progressively sloppy) by riding the commercial success of the “Blah-k” album from 30 years ago is known only to God.

I think Meh-tallica should have been the “Big 4” thrash band to retire, not Slayer…… F’n SLAYER!! \m/ \m/

      Rattle,

I think he was being sarcastic and busting on what he suspected the Metallica purists would write, but I knew you would agree wholeheartedly, with his sardonic sentiments. 🙂

Dana, you may be right about the sarcasm, but it’s like RTunes was reading my mind! And now I’m gonna go put on my Venom shirt and listen to their “Black Metal” album! :o) \m/

      LOL!!!!

      Dana and Rattle,

I’m literally giggling like a school kid right now at your responses. I understand how passionately people feel about music (so do I!), but it’s also cool to mix it up with humor.

…and yes, I wish L’Amour’s would come back! (I was a few years too young to actually go, but I remember hearing their commercials on the radio all the time)

      Oh RTunes,

You sadly missed A LOT…L’Amour was the BEST. God knows how many shows I saw there, White Lion was the house band.

      D 🙂

Meh-tallica has been so unpredictable since the “…Justice” album. Maybe that’s what helps them stay inspired, cuz IMO they seem to only be going through the motions nowadays…..

Always been a fan of Elton John (“Crocodile Rock” was the first 45 I ever bought, I was only 6!) Anyway, not sure I get the Metallica connection, and I definitely don’t get the Miley Cyrcus (whoever that is) connection! I’ll just stick with the Yellow Brick Road, thank you.

Hopefully it is Elton on the piano and not singing. The man is a fabulous piano player

    • Doug R. on

And if it doesn’t work out, all Elton has to say is ~ Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player! 😉

      LOL – Good one.

Actually Dont Shoot Me….. is a fantastic Elton record as are most of his earlier (70s) work

Since Metallica (Lars) took the bass out of “….And Justice” I haven’t been a big fan. I Like Megadeth a whole lot better and they put out new music consistently I like Elton and he was on a Saxon album, but Metallica doesn’t fit…another “LU LU” II
