RATT WORKING ON A NEW ALBUM, SINGER STEPHEN PEARCY SAYS THEY ARE GOING FOR AN “OUT OF THE CELLAR” SOUND

ratt2013410 Ratt frontman Stephen Pearcy says the band are hoping to release their tenth album this year to tie in with the band’s 30th anniversary.

With the help of guitarist Warren DeMartini, he’s trying to ensure that the follow-up to 2010′s well-received Infestation retains the feel of the glam metal band’s early material.

Pearcy tells Noize In The Attic, “Warren and I are spearheading the next record to be what it should be: a more Out Of The Cellar thing. Just real hardcore, basically. We’ve already recorded one track – and if this song is the only song ever released, I’d be way happy. We have so much good music we haven’t even tapped into. It’s good stuff.”

The vocalist says they’ve already hired a producer for recording sessions, which are due to commence in the next few months. “We’re trying not to do shows, even though there are some on the books,” he says. “We want a record out – that’s what we want. Our thirtieth anniversary and our tenth record.”

Ratt’s path to their next album has been plagued with the kind of political struggles fans have come to accept. In 2011 former bassist Juan Croucier accused them of poaching guitarist Carlos Cavazo from his band in order to get at him – then later rejoined himself.

In the same year drummer Bobby Blotzer described working with Ratt as like “rolling a snowball uphill” after having blasted his bandmates in his autobiography. Last year Pearcy said he’d learned lessons from Blotzer’s experience and didn’t hold any grudge over the contents of his book, saying, “We’re not the only band in history who were dysfunctional. Eventually and hopefully, you get your shit together and you grow up.”

  1. These guys were always under appreciated. Yes they put out some bad stuff like every other band of that era did. But RATT was always a solid band. The first three albums were great. Infestation was a pleasant surprise for me and I’m looking forward to the next album. Good to see JC back in the fold where he s/b. These guys were over shadowed by the Crue and IMO were the far better band. DeMartini has/had more chops of many of the so called great guitarists of the genre. Hopefully Bobby B can keep his mouth shut and remember he’s the drummer and these guys can put out another solid effort that would make Robin Crosby proud.

    1. Agreed. DeMartini is a great guitarist and the band does have some great songs.

  2. I’ve always thought their best tune was “Body Talk.” It was a step away from what they had done before. Amazing song. But super excited for this album. They were one of the greatest bands of the 80’s along with Cinderella, extreme, y and t, motley, poison, electric funk boys, keel, etc.

  3. VERY happy to hear these guys are working on new music! Infestation was a fantastic comeback album, one of the best rock LPs of the last ten years, along with Van Halen’s A Different Kind Of Truth. Stephen and Warren are great writers, and with Juan back, hopefully he’ll make some contributions to the new album as well (he wrote some of my favorite Ratt tracks like She Wants Money). Too many older bands just rest on their back catalog because they figure it isn’t worth the effort to make new albums anymore. It’s awesome that Ratt actually wanna ADD to their legacy rather than just live off it. I can’t wait to buy this album!

  4. i m a huge ratt fan, since day one ,but to hear pearcy say that carlos cavaso could never fill robin crosby s shoes was absolute bullshit,it was the way he said it!! as far as the chemistry of ratt,no he couldnt, but carlos is a very underated guitarist.so mr pearcy, watch the way u use your words.eddie please comment,i ve been a fan of yours since day 1.
