RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE GUITARIST TOM MORELLO AND SYSTEM OF DOWN SINGER SERJ TANKIAN PLAY TRIBUTE TO RANDY RHOADS BY COVERING “CRAZY TRAIN”

randyrhoads300 Kory Grow of Rolling Stone reports:

Guitarist Tom Morello and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian have joined forces to pay tribute to late Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads, who helped usher classicism into heavy metal before his accidental death in 1982, with a reverent cover of Crazy Train. The song will appear on an upcoming compilation, Immortal Randy Rhoads: The Ultimate Tribute, and the recording also features bassist Rudy Sarzo – who played with Rhoads in Ozzy’s band and Quiet Riot – and onetime Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice.

The tribute was especially important to Morello, “Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitar player of all time,” he tells Rolling Stone. “It was his poster on my wall when I was practicing eight hours a day, and I named my firstborn son, Rhoads, after him. Serj, Rudy, Vinny and I rocked ‘Crazy Train’ as a sonic tribute to one of rock’s greatest fallen heroes. Crank it.”

Immortal Randy Rhoads: The Ultimate Tribute will come out on March 3rd, through UDR Music.

Some things are better left untouched, don’t see the justice to this song.

Should I use an OMG or a WTF or both. This is pretty embarrassing for a cover paying tribute to Randy. Serj should stick to SOAD and I never thought much of Morello as a guitarist but this is just disrespectful to Rhoads and Ozzy.

Has to be the worst cover song I ever heard, total abomination

Well, it’s interesting. That’s how Serj sings, and I’m not surprised by Morello’s guitar tracks. The mix is horrible…Serj sounds like he’s floating 10 ft above the band, dripping with too much reverb.

To be honest, it sounds like a scratch vocal track that got put on the final mix. I know Serj sings better than that. I like Morello’s take on the song, but wish Serj was a little more in tune. It has potential, but it’s not there yet.

Nobody can play this song like Randy did, especially Tom Morello who I can’t stand.
