QUESTION OF THE WEEK: IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT LIVE NATION CONTROVERSY, REGARDING EMPLOYEES BRAGGING ABOUT OVERCHARGING FANS, DO YOU THINK IT’S TIME TICKETING AGENCIES/BROKERS SHOULD BE DONE AWAY WITH?

Yes, I think it’s well over due.

Even back in the 80s, Ticketmaster, along with scalpers, were constant problems for us concert goers.

It seems nothing changes, and these agencies seem to have monopolies on ticket sales. It is too much power, and control, for very few companies, which I believe is illegal.

Bands should have a way to sell tickets directly to their fans through their websites. Cut out the middleman, lower the fees, give everyone a fair chance to obtain good seats, and hopefully end the corruption.

But sadly, since this has yet to happen, and it is 2026, my feeling is, it is will not be remedied, any time soon.

  1. Hate ticketbastard and live nation with a passion. They are so corrupt in so many ways it’s sickening. Locking up all the tickets ahead of time to sell them on the secondhand market is their specialty. You used to be able to look at tickets for sale, and tell who the seller was. I remember one time I was looking at seats and the whole row was being sold by the same seller. There was a six ticket limit on the show, but that row had twelve seats. So how the hell does one person buy twelve seats in the same row all at once?

I think either the band or venue should set the prices, and sell them exclusively on their own website. There is no need for ticketbastard or their like anymore and I wish they would get shutdown. I only go to shows at smaller venues now because of them. I don’t know why people still pay these stupid prices to go to concerts. If just for one tour cycle people would stop going, the prices might adjust to normal again. Until that happens prices will keep going up.

  2. Let them go the way of the record labels. Yes, I think it’s time. I also think it’s time to lower costs all around. It’s a good idea in the meantime to wait until the day or day before a show to purchase tickets. Case in point, Weird Al tickets at a venue near me started out at around $125-140, and today , $40. These are just normal seats in the sections, not close on the floor.

  3. Today, everything is overpriced! Is it convenient to be able to buy concert tix on your phone, yes, of course, but there shouldn’t be ridiculous “convenience” fees! That’s what your paying for – it’s the simplicity of buying tix on your phone or computer. A small fee is acceptable, but when they’re charging 50, 60, 70 dollars or more for the fee, that is highway robbery! As I’ve said before, in my opinion casinos are the best place to see a concert, very little or no fees at all, but an arena? Or an amphitheater? Be prepared to pay big bucks!

  4. Why is that even a question? Of course they need to be done away with and why aren’t they using technology to track the resell market to keep ticket prices from being marked up too high? You know the technology is there…Or the fact that bots can buy up the tickets to force higher pricing? Give me a damn break!

    1. Because that is the question I thought of this week, even though it maybe rhetorical, to spur on discussion, sheesh….

    2. RR1, Dana graciously volunteers her time to give us music fans a forum to freely express our opinions on a variety of music topics/news. While you can opine as you choose, I think its best to be gracious towards Dana in return.

And if you have suggestions for a Question of the Week, present it to Dana. Perhaps it’s a question she can pose to us music fans.

    3. Rock rules: Cool it. If you piss off Dana, you are pissing off all of us. Be respectful and join in the fun, or go yell at yourself in the mirror.

    4. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I wonder if we are getting some Blabbermouth.net posters here, since the site no longer accommodates comments?

If that is the case, that maybe why some of these new posters are so prickly? Some of the commenters at Blabbermouth, were very rude and obnoxious.

  5. Hi Rattle, Judas Priest did impress me with their last few releases! Their is a lot of corruption and this article is political unless you are brain dead! The bands are not making money off their record sales, just touring. It is a mess for the artists! Their is deals but you have to search for them. I have basically given up on the human race and considered them as a bunch of idiots or as Perry Ferrell says that we would make great pets for aliens!! Haha!

    1. George, I too, think Judas Priest’s last few albums have been really good. The band sounds great. My issue with today’s Judas Priest is the two guitar players at Judas Priest concerts are not Glenn Tipton and KK Downing. While both Richie Faulkner and Andy Sneap are fine players, they are not Tipton and Downing. I’m bothered that during Judas Priest concerts, Faulkner and Sneap are playing the classic songs whose music was written by Tipton and Downing.
