If this question was posed to me back in the 80s or the early 90s, my answer would have been, I think I could do it, but it would be very difficult.
Today? A week would be a cake walk. I have gone weeks, and sometimes a couple of months, without listening to music. I tend to watch lots of TV, and podcasts, so that would be a far bigger crutch for me to give up for even a couple of days, let alone a week.
As for what I would use to break my audio fast? Other than it being upbeat and kick ass, I don’t know. My guess would be something from AC/DC, Van Halen, Priest, Lynch Mob, Ratt or even Airbourne?

Wow, this is a tough one!!!!
I got my first stereo for Christmas when I was 8 years old. Top of the line Emerson with an 8 track player LOL. Music has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember and I’m in my late 50’s now. So have listened to some form of music daily, weather it be the AM radio in my parent’s car, the stereo at home, then all through the years of the first cars at 16 years old, so on & so on up to today.
So to answer the question, I’m going to say I highly doubt I could do it without going stir-crazy!!!..But if I did the first song I would listen to afterwards is Hellion/Electric Eye as I would be playing my entire Judas Priest catalog, starting with my all-time favorite album, Screaming For Vengeance
Not a problem – I do it quite a lot. Even with the radio playing at work I can tune out and not actually listen to it. (Although I get very vocal if Bon Jovi or Queen come one – “Turn that s*** off!” is usually the cry.)
First song I’d listen to? Probably Paranoid or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath; if not them then Painkiller or Master of Puppets.
Yes I could probably go a week but it would be hard at night since I always play music to go to sleep with. Far as what song I’d pick, I really have no clue. Maybe Blue Oyster Cults live cover of Kick out the Jams? Seems like a good song to end my suspension lol
Yes.
Either “Holy Wars…The Punishment Due” or “Black” from Sevendust. Cranked.
The first Sevendust album is one of the greatest debut records ever. It crushes.
Tim D, I think your selection of “Holy Wars…” is an EXCELLENT choice! \m/
No way, never! I grew up listening to music 24/7! For real! Even in my sleep! I grew up in a 6 family house in Brooklyn and there was always music playing from somewhere! It was just a way of life back then, and that way of life has stuck with me and been with me for my entire lifetime! I love music, I live for the music! As far back as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with music, if I liked a song, I had to know everything about it, it became a hobby I guess, who wrote it, played on it, produced it, length of the song, etc., etc., so no I don’t think I could give up listening to music for even 1 day! Much less a week! My musical taste is and always has been all over the map, love all kinds of music except rap sh-t, but that’s irrelevant because rap/hip-hop isn’t music anyway! How could you call something that has no singing and no instruments music anway?! Now if I got shipwrecked on a deserted island and wasn’t able to listen to music for a week or whatever, the first song I would want to hear would be “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'”
