METALLICA TO PLAY A WEEK LONG RESIDENCY ON “THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON”

Metallica2010pic2400pix Ryan Gajewski of the Hollywood Reporter reports:

Metallica have scheduled a weeklong residency on the Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson in November, with the band confirming the news on Twitter.

“We’ll be playing on @LateLateShowCBS for an entire week starting Monday, November 17th! #LateLateShow,” the band posted on October 29th.
The performances help mark the 10th-anniversary reissue of the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster, which will be available on November 24th as a digital release and on Blu-ray.

The band’s residency comes as Ferguson is nearing the end of his late-night CBS run. He took over from Craig Kilborn as host of the show in January 2005, and his final episode is set to air on a yet-to-be-announced date in December. James Corden will grab the reins in March 2015.
Booking musical acts for weeklong stints has become somewhat trendy for late-night shows, as the Foo Fighters had such a gig on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this month.

Last time Craig did something like this was with Richie Sambora and that was a while back. The show has no resident band. Craig usually has lesser celebrities as guests and only occasionally someone bigger when they’re promoting something smaller they’ve done. Very odd to hear Metallica is going to guest for a week but I suppose the re-release of the doc movie can be considered a smaller project for the band to promote. Wouldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams Metallica would be on Ferguson’s show for one day let alone an entire week of shows.

Craig Ferguson is probably the funniest guy on late night tv. It’s cool Metallica is doing this, but what’s going on with their new album? Are they even working on it? It seems over the last several years they keep coming up with reasons for pushing back a new album. Why? As for celebrating the anniversary of “Some Kind Of Monster” I’d rather try to forget about that embarrassment. I had already lost tons of respect for them because of Load and Reload, but that movie made me sick. They looked like whiny crybabies who had forgotten how to play their instruments.
