Ronnie James Dio, acknowledged as one of the pre-eminent voices in heavy metal music, fronted three of the world’s multi-platinum-selling arena rock attractions: Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio. He lost his battle with gastric cancer in 2010, leaving behind a massive canon of music and the enduring symbol of heavy metal, the “Devil Horns.” He continues to influence musicians today the world over.
Dio: Dreamers Never Die directed by renowned filmmakers Don Argott and Demian Fenton (Believer,Framing John DeloreanLast Days HereThe Art of the Steal), recounts Dio’s life from doo wop crooner to musician and songwriter to frontman for Rainbow, Black Sabbath and, ultimately, Dio, the band bearing his name.
Wendy Dio, his widow, long-time manager the film’s executive producer, as well as the two filmmakers, were on hand for the premiere in addition to many musicians and celebrities who knew Dio personally or were influenced by his music. In attendance were Dio’s cousin David “Rock” Feinstein, who played with him in the band Elf, broadcast personality Eddie Trunk and Don Coscarelli, director of The Last In Line music video, all of whom appear in the film.  Additionally, Lita Ford, Joey Belladonna of Anthrax, members of the Dio band, the Dead Daisies, Black Star Riders, Lynch Mob and Quiet Riot and many others attended the event.
The London Premiere of the film will take place on Monday, September 26th at the Curzon Soho Theatre.
