Pure baseless conjecture on my part: What if Ace Frehley was the opening act? (1) They wouldn’t have to negotiate salary with him because he’s the opener. (2) All the “boycotting” (most of whom I don’t believe) people in the KISS Army will show up. (3) They could bring Ace on during the encores with a whole lot of fanfare (sort of like the Stones bringing out Mick Taylor or Bill Wyman or any big singer). Isn’t he also going to be on the KISS Kruise? (or did I just imagine that?)
I think there’s more to all this, considering the impression you get from just the announced dates is that KISS is suddenly going to play American arenas without sharing a double bill. Also, regarding playing just one night at MSG in the middle of a tour, I think more dates will be announced and it’s very possible the final show(s) are in NYC.
Ace has already said he wouldn’t open or even participate if he didn’t get to wear the makeup instead of Tommy. I suppose he could change his mind. I for one hope he does not. I highly doubt Paul will kick his house painter to the curb.
There is zero chance they will fill the seats as the band is currently constructed or without a co-headliner. Why would they think they can fill major arenas at this point? Because its the final tour?
Of course this has been announced as a 2-3 year tour and the announcement has only given dates through April 2019. If ticket sales are soft I bet they change their minds. We shall see. I think this was done to show Ace the bus is leaving without him and I hope he tells them to KISS his A$$.
And nothing can fix the elephant in the room known as Paul’s voice. It will not stand up for 2-3 years and there is no way he will take a backseat. I cringe at the thought of an expanded set list to 25 songs while he churns out tune after tune sounding like a cross between Urkel and Beavis.
I also don’t get that Ace is playing the cruise … really, would you want to be the opening act and then have the band that you co- founded go on with sb else in the makeup and figure you designed? So if Ace were the opener to that tour I would still not go … It would be a totally awkward feeling seeing him in that minor role and then Thayer in the full blast show … no .. Ace once said in an interview he would not share a stage with sb wearing his makeup when he is not … I hope he meant it and will stick to it
LOTS of secondary market cities. As far as the biggest and best stage ever, somehow I don’t see that happening in Moline, IL. The Stones’ stage has by far been bigger and better than Kiss’ stage for decades, and there is no way the Stones could put their stage in in many of the places Kiss is playing next year.
Even though I don’t know where Ace’s head is lately, just tell me that Ace, Peter, Vinnie and Bruce will be involved, and me and my Creatures Of The Night will march on over to the Amalie Arena in Tampa on 4/11/19! Otherwise, thanks for the memories.
We are going to try take our 12 year old son to the San Diego show only so he witness the spectacle of KI$$, even if it is the glorified tribute version. If it wasn’t for that, I would have absolutely zero interest in attending a show.
