Iron Maiden have released a video for the song Speed Of Light from their forthcoming double-length album, The Book Of Souls, out September 4th.
The video is a “homage” to four decades of video gaming juxta-posed alongside Iron Maiden’s 40 years of incredible visual canon centering on their talisman, Eddie as he travels through space & time to complete his Herculean task. Watch it below.
Dickinson says, “We recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we’d done the Brave New World album in 2000, so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking there. By the time we’d finished we all agreed that each track was such an integral part of the whole body of work that if it needed to be a double album, then double it was going to be.”
Bassist Steve Harris adds, “We approached this album in a different way to how we’ve recorded previously. A lot of the songs were actually written while we were there in the studio. We rehearsed and recorded them straight away while they were still fresh – and I think that immediacy really shows. They have almost a live feel to them, I think. I’m very proud of The Book Of Souls. We all are, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it when we take it out on the road next year.”
The album will be available in standard 2CD, deluxe hardbound 2CD, heavyweight triple-vinyl, standard and hi-res audio. Tour details will be confirmed in due course. Harris hits the road with solo band British Lion in July.

What song is Nicko playing?
They recorded this the right way: no auto-tune for Bruce, and the dynamics are there, it’s listenable.
The video is pretty cool.
This sounds like something from Seventh Son, another goofy record.
What song is Nicko playing?
up the f–king irons baby
This sounds like a song that could had been on “Dance of Death”. Iron Maiden has been stuck on the “Brave New World” model of songwriting since Bruce and Adrian returned back in 2000. Maiden needs to return to the Beast/Piece/Powerslave era. Not what I was hoping for.
Sorry it isn’t what you were hoping for. I am sure Maiden will be disappointed to know that you are underwhelmed. They spent all that time writing and recording only to find out that you don’t like it. I hope they can recover.
Don’t quit your day job.
“I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell”….
Maiden rules! I’m glad they are back and Bruce is healthy.
Right on James K!!!
So thankful Bruce is doing better. New music from Maiden is always a good thing.
I agree with medved ever since powerslave us Maiden fans have had to live with this chemistry of song writing with no real chorus .It is typical Maiden to me but where is that Number of the beast ,Piece of mind writing gone .I was so hoping they would get back to that. There is nothing wrongwith a 4 to5 minute song. You can still show off your chops in that time frame. It Is one song for now I have to hear the rest.
You guys really are caught somewhere in time. The only thing that is wrong with the new stuff is that it is not the old stuff. This band has huge standards and they always deliver quality. Personally, I think that BRAVE NEW WORLD is a top 5 MAIDEN album and I find a lot of originality in the newer material. Would it make you people happy if they got the old cover artist back? Stop with the nonsense and be happy with this bands line-up, songwriting and production quality or find Christopher Lloyd and go back to 1983.
This is the truth. People get butt hurt when bands don’t write like they did in 1985. No kidding. It’s not 1985.
Brave New World is easily one of their best CD’s by far.
Yeah, it’s not Powerslave, and Metallica isn’t going to write another Master of Puppets. Get over it.
