The Pulse Of Radio reports that guitarist Eddie Van Halen spoke about the status of Van Halen during a visit last week (Thursday, February 12th) to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington D.C., where he was part of its What It Means to be American series.
When asked about the current plans for the band, Van Halen replied, “I’d love to make a studio record. Depends on everybody’s timing. I don’t know what Dave Lee Roth is up to now. I don’t know if he’s living in New York or Japan or wherever he is.”
Addressing what it’s like been like to adjust to three different vocalists over the years — David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone — he said it’s more about the vocalists adjusting to the band. He said laughing, “You sing this, or you’re out of the group.”
Van Halen will be release Tokyo Dome Live In Concert and remastered versions of Van Halen and 1984 on March 31st.

So they have remastered original albums and have a live album coming out next month with Diamond Dave on vocals, yet they don’t know where he is and what he’s doing? Sure….
Ed’s a legend no doubt but he’s also FOS alot of the time. He knows where Roth is…c’mon Ed, this ain’t 30 years ago with Dave lost in the Amazon.
30 years later, dave’s online ordering from amazon.
Just by the statements he made about not even knowing where Dave is and making what I guess is a joke in saying “You sing this, or you’re out of the group” makes me reallly not care if they make another album at this point. Ed just seems like a nightmare to work with and I don’t see why anyone would want to be around him long enough to make an album and do a tour. Of course, like everyone else, I’d love to see the original four guys back together even if it’s just for one final time. But it does no good to get hopes up for something like that when the reality is that it’s not likely to ever happen.
Funny how the rest of the world knows that DLR is in LA playing birthday party gigs at the Staples Center with Dave Grohl, while he kills time waiting for the Bat-phone to ring. Either Ed is completely out of touch….or his comments are just part of the Kabuki that he and Dave have been playing with each other since Day One. It does make for good copy and lots of comments on websites like this one….
I liked him better when he was an alcoholic. The sober Eddie is a jackass.
Harry,
Ya know whats funny I agree and have always said that Eddie comes off as an ass, I was fortunate enough to run into him backstage (a day on the green) one time from a distance. He looked over as I shouted out “hey are you who I think you are”? he shouted back ” don’t know? who do you think I am”? the front teeth was the giveaway. He is a total recluse and weird dude, I mean all the truly great game changer minds/performers etc. are usually weird. Micheal Jackson, Madonna, Eddie, Elvis Johnny Cash what;s all in common they are freaks!!!
Behind those 5150 walls must be a strange place 🙂
