Don Dokken, in particular, appears to be so uninspired and simply going through the motions. It will probably make for a boring DVD, if Dokken releases this performance, as originally planned. Kudos to Jeff Pilson, though, for being on stage and getting into his performance.

I hope, for the fans’ sake, the band can put on a more inspiring show for its Japan dates.

I agree with you. I don’t expect Don to jump through hoops, but at least act like you want to be there. I suspect he’s pissed that it’s not his current version of the band playing. I think Jeff Pilson plays a much bigger role in this band’s success than most people know.

Yeah, Pilson caries these guys vocally and performance wise. Super underrated bass player, producer and song writer.

The T&N album with Pilson singing is great.

Not going to slag the band though, it is what it is. Don was never a great vocalist and like many aging singers his range is even smaller than it was originally. It’s good to see them banging out some songs though.

And speaking of classic lineup reunions, I hope Ace Frehley does indeed reunite with KI$$ in 2017. I hope Peter, too, but Ace is a start. It’s simply blasphemy that Tommy “Faker” imitates the true Space Man.

A few things. Don seems like a more appropriate singer for the Moody Blues instead of Dokken. Its obvious he can’t produce any volume any longer or hit any highs. But in his defense, he knows his limitations and is staying within them — unlike another singer that sings for a couple of Dutch brothers.

Ha, I’ll be surprised to hear DLR singing any new VH songs, but who knows?

It’s cool to see Dokken up there again, but yeah, they years take a toll. It think it’s a huge mistake for a lot of these bands, with aging and waning fans, ie Skid Row, Dokken, Ratt, to dick around with all the squabbling.

None of these people are getting any younger, suck it up and play.

Don’s performance here just confirms that everyone should be pressing for T&N to do more work rather than waste energy over a “classic” Dokken reunion. *Slave to the Empire* is the best album Dokken never did.

maybe i’m the odd man out on this site but, I have never liked “hair metal” and I was never a fan of shredding – but George lynch even though he did his fair share of flash guitar playing, is IMO one of the best players of that era, but as a band I have never liked dokken – dons voice was too thin for me- and watching the video clips it is just awful now- it looks like he is not having any fun up there at all.. and why the hell is he wearing this long coat…. but the band sounds pretty together musically – so I hope they make as they have said good money and have a successful group of shows .

Lynch is one of the best in my book. I have never had the desire to play guitar, but when I hear George, I change my mind.

      D 🙂
