Adrian Peel of Digital Journal spoke with our namesake Mr. Trunk. Select quotes from the feature appear below.
Who would Eddie like to have on That Metal Show who’s not been on before?
“Artists I want and what the audience wants might not always be the same thing. I like to give the lesser known guys a shot, but the network always wants the main stars of major bands. We have a good balance. Guys we’ve never had on that are often requested are Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, James Hetfield, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Ozzy… Our door is wide open. For many it’s just a matter of schedule or they aren’t comfortable doing TV but love the show. For a few, they just have issues.”
People often say that they don’t want to meet their heroes as they believe they’ll be disappointed (especially if said hero has “issues”), yet Eddie Trunk has met a number of his. What’s his view on this idea of maintaining a certain “mystique” between artist and fan?
“I understand it and it’s not a bad idea… There are some people I have met over the decades that have had me sour on them because of their behavior. But anyone can have a bad day and fans have to remember that. You also have to remember these guys are constantly getting hammered by fans for stuff and sometimes it becomes over the top, especially if out eating or with family. I’ve seen many fans behave great when they approach celebs and others act way out of line and deserve to be blown off, so it does work both ways.”

Hi Eddie I’m a huge fan of u Don and Jim.Maybe u should have a couple of shows that headline Game Changers or true legends so u can get the heavy hitters like Eddie VH
Eddie VH turned down Letterman and Rolling Stone magazine. Changing the name of a show isn’t going to make him want to do it. Thanks
Alllllllll right, you know, I said you know Tommy Thayer has been serving Gene and I coffee and scrubbing our toilets for nearly 30 years now people let me hear ya!!! We celebrated Tommy’s birthday this past weekend in Las Veg-KISS on stage by presenting Tommy a cake that one of our roadies picked up at the local grocery store! And we also got him a limited edition gift card for $25 to the kissonline.com store let me hear ya!!!!! Wowwwwwwhoooo!! Ok, ok you know Gene just released a book entitled Me, Inc. That’s right people, if you wanna know how to become a millionaire over night, just buy several copies of his book!!!! And, AND if you’ve already read my book and believe my bullshit, you’ll certainly fall for Gene’s bullshit too!!! Ok just the other day I was talking to this lovely lady backstage. She told me she was an executive assistant for the front office of one of the major NHL franchises. That’s right people, ok! So after a few minutes of chatting it was evident that she had an opening and I had a stiff proposition!!!!! OWwwww! Ok so she takes me aside, she takes me aside and says Paul, I want you to put your puck in my net let me hear ya!!!!! I said girl,, when you’re down in the dumps and you need something to bring you UPppppp!!! There’s only one thing that’s gonna do it the way you want it. She said Viagra, what people, VIAGRA, LOUDER, VIAGRA!!!!! All right LOVE GUN!!!!!!
I love reading your comments. I wish I had more time to join in too .
I like when you bring actual stanley quotes from in between songs at concerts as well as lyric changes .
You should bring in more qoutes from the 80’s concerts too as he changed it up a little on what he said between songs..
Hilarious!
I’d like to see
Ritchie Blackmore
Phil Moog
Pat Travers
Frank Marino
Good call on Pat Travers. Seems like a cool, pretty down to earth guy the couple times I’ve chatted with him.
Mark Slaughter would be a good guest..
Just be “cool” when meeting your musical heroes. Use common sense and most likely you’ll come out of it with a great experience and story. The problem is a lot of people go into “nerd/fanboy” mode and expect to monopolize the artists time for 30 minutes and leave having made a new best friend. Isn’t going to happen! One awesome thing about seeing a lot of the older “80’s stars” is they are playing much smaller venues/clubs and a musician you wouldn’t have dreamed of meeting in 88′ is now having drinks and meeting people after the gig alongside you. The vast majority of them are super cool with their fans and will take pics and sign anything. I have to give props here to 3 guys who went WAY above and beyond with fans at shows I’ve been to: John Corabi, Eric Martin, & Jamie St. James.
