EDDIE TRUNK DISCUSSES WHO HE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ON “THAT METAL SHOW” AND MEETING ONES HEROES

eddie400 Adrian Peel of Digital Journal spoke with our namesake Mr. Trunk. Select quotes from the feature appear below.

Who would Eddie like to have on That Metal Show who’s not been on before?

“Artists I want and what the audience wants might not always be the same thing. I like to give the lesser known guys a shot, but the network always wants the main stars of major bands. We have a good balance. Guys we’ve never had on that are often requested are Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, James Hetfield, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Ozzy… Our door is wide open. For many itโ€™s just a matter of schedule or they arenโ€™t comfortable doing TV but love the show. For a few, they just have issues.”

People often say that they don’t want to meet their heroes as they believe theyโ€™ll be disappointed (especially if said hero has “issues”), yet Eddie Trunk has met a number of his. What’s his view on this idea of maintaining a certain “mystique” between artist and fan?

“I understand it and itโ€™s not a bad idea… There are some people I have met over the decades that have had me sour on them because of their behavior. But anyone can have a bad day and fans have to remember that. You also have to remember these guys are constantly getting hammered by fans for stuff and sometimes it becomes over the top, especially if out eating or with family. I’ve seen many fans behave great when they approach celebs and others act way out of line and deserve to be blown off, so it does work both ways.”

  1. Eddie i’m sorry to say this but in all due respect to TMS and yourself, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley don’t deserve to be on your show. They have shown way to much disrespect to you, TMS and us fans that love & support the show.

    1. I agree

We all know if G & P were on they would get up on their soap box and use their talking points…
All the spin they’ve been doing for 30 years. We’ve heard it all before . The younger , naive fans eat it up and even directly quote them on this and other forums ..
Some of the very worst of it from a fan like me from the 70’s was this aug/sept when G & P were asked ” if ” they were voted into the HOF what do they think of A & P . G & P got so vile about it , it was so unneccesary and offensive…. Then, when they found out they were going in, they pulled back on the bashing for a few weeks when interviewed. Then they went on a full fledged assault on Peter and Ace all the way up to the induction..( yes I realize A & P bashed G & P in their books but the bashing from G & P started waaay before ! )
The way they spin stories and come up with such bullshit is a real turnoff to diehards . Its insulting to the fans as well as former members and truly juvenile. It really shows what kind of person’s G & P really are . It got so bad I can only think about Kiss from the 70’s thru the 80’s up until 01. That will always be my favorite band .
I wont even watch them on tv now . ( Just waste my time on forums LOL).
And the talking points they do to sell their brand , I just dont get how anyone can find it amusing ? Even Gene realized this when he decided to call his solo release ” asshole” . Howard Stern and others were commenting on how ridiculous Gene’s greed had become publicly that Gene decided to run with it . This was all before” Family Jewels ”
This is when Kiss put the nail in the coffin for me. They werent even a band anymore to me. Well , actually 01.
Does anyone really want to watch this on TMS ?
Reading a Crue interview recently ,about them wanting to retire while they are on top , reminded me of Stanley saying the same thing then. He is talking to a car wash attendant while his car is being washed and decided to not retire . It just makes me shake my head.
Paul had no intentions of retiring which makes it differnt then other bands that come back out of retirement.
Just like when he lied to the fans on the farewell tour to drum up ticket sales.
Maybe G & P have always been like this but there is no denying they have gotten much worse .

They didnt bring it so much to the forefront thru the 80’s and 90’s.
And the fans only got info mostly from their magazine interview once a month.

The only way I see any entertainment in having G & P on TMS is to have Ace and Peter on with them to balance the bullshit.

  2. I have been privileged to meet a few of my musical heroes in my lifetime. One thing to remember is they are people just like us, only they have a cooler job.

I figure if they are dining or something similarly private, I don’t bother them as I would not want to be. Of course, there are situations where they are “free game” but even then I am polite.

  3. Eddie….here is something different, might be difficult but have you ever considered having a sports figure on the show? Lots of rock and roll/metal fans who are professional athletes that watch your show I bet….just something to consider if you so choose

    1. Joe,

Eddie is very close friends with retired N.Y. Mets catcher Mike Piazza. Piazza was on TMS as a guest as well as being on Eddie’s radio shows many times over the years. I think he also had retired baseball pitcher Randy Johnson on his radio shows a couple of times as well. Not to mention the great Chris Jericho, if you consider wrestling a sport. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Dana from ET.com : )

    2. I consider WWE/Wrestling Sports Entertainment….that being said what Chris and 99% of those amazing athletes do is amazing. I’m a big fan of wrestling.

    3. Hi DC,

Yes, I know. I have heard him on Eddie’s Q shows for many years and even heard his very first appearance many moons ago.

I was fortunate enough to get to meet him up at Eddie’s Q show once. He was very nice and a crazy metal fan like all of us. But, I readily admit, for all intensive purposes, it begins and ends with the NFL for me ๐Ÿ™‚

      Cheers my friend,
      D ๐Ÿ™‚

    4. Dana says “it begins and ends with the NFL for me ๐Ÿ™‚ “……….Much love Dana….thank you. I will give you a little FYI…Tom Coughlin will retire at this seasons end…..Big Bill is on the Giants radar…

    5. Please no. We are not all sports obsessed. Athletes are not celebrities in my view. Go watch Espn if you want sports.

    6. Frank W,

Just curious as to why you are you blaming me? I wasn’t the one making the suggestion in the first place, I was simply reminding the poster that Eddie has had athletes on his shows before. C’mon man (that’s an ESPN joke).

FYI, I do watch ESPN and the NFL network, so there. ๐Ÿ˜› LOL!

      Dana from ET.com ๐Ÿ™‚

    7. Frank….Athletes are celebrities….C’mon you can’t be serious. I have a very good amount of friends that can’t go anywhere without much attention given….

    8. And Frank I made the suggestion to Dana….Eddie, Dana and I’m most positive a lot of people here love professional sports. And I don’t like tooting my own horn but I played for Penn State and with Seattle….so there ya go.
