Adrian Peel of Digital Journal spoke with our namesake Mr. Trunk. Select quotes from the feature appear below.
Who would Eddie like to have on That Metal Show who’s not been on before?
“Artists I want and what the audience wants might not always be the same thing. I like to give the lesser known guys a shot, but the network always wants the main stars of major bands. We have a good balance. Guys we’ve never had on that are often requested are Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, James Hetfield, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Ozzy… Our door is wide open. For many it’s just a matter of schedule or they aren’t comfortable doing TV but love the show. For a few, they just have issues.”
People often say that they don’t want to meet their heroes as they believe they’ll be disappointed (especially if said hero has “issues”), yet Eddie Trunk has met a number of his. What’s his view on this idea of maintaining a certain “mystique” between artist and fan?
“I understand it and it’s not a bad idea… There are some people I have met over the decades that have had me sour on them because of their behavior. But anyone can have a bad day and fans have to remember that. You also have to remember these guys are constantly getting hammered by fans for stuff and sometimes it becomes over the top, especially if out eating or with family. I’ve seen many fans behave great when they approach celebs and others act way out of line and deserve to be blown off, so it does work both ways.”

Why not get Rik Emmett, Alex Lifeson, Bruce Kulick, Michael Angelo Batio, Michael Schenker, Michael Wilton, Jon Schaefer (Iced Earth) or Jeff Martin?
I would love to see Kix on TMS. The stories those guys could tell would be epic!
thats why as i got older and had the either fortune or in some cases misfortune to either work for ,or just meet some famous people, some folks are really great and greatfull people, others have this idea that they are better than the rest of us,or because they had a hit record, they suddenly became smarter than the rest of us,or they suddnely have all the answers on how to solve the worlds ills.i like eddie becuase he like bill oriley ask the real questions, and actually have an honest opinion about things, and most of your stars dont like that they want to be interviewed and asked the pre screened questions ,they dont want to talk about what the public really wants top know about.thats why kiss wont be on there, they know eddie would ask the questions that WE the fans really want to know, and ozzy to his bitch wife will not let lose eddie on him,she could not control the interview, and the fans would really know what goes on.
How about a show dedicated to Randy Rhoads? That’ be cool.
Guests that knew Randy close, that we haven’t already heard from. Dana Strum, didn’t he bring Randy to Ozzy? Rudy Sarzo, Tommy Aldridge, etc. Guest guitar players playing Randy’s solos going to break, Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde.
Two words: BILLY SQUIER
Ritchie Ranno of course. His band (Starz) influenced a ton of metal bands, they have a KISS connection and he still is an amazing guitarist. They also just announced they are recording a new album. Playing Europe this year and one of the few metal bands from the 70s that are still in the trenches playing clubs.
