Def Leppard moved one step closer to induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after a convincing win in the fan vote, which closed last night.

The British band secured 547,647 votes, ahead of Stevie Nicks (427,844), Todd Rundgren (365,370), the Zombies (329,052) and the Cure (264,443).

All five of the top-polling acts receive an additional vote in the final ballot, beyond the support given by members of the Hall, which includes artists, industry executives and others. While winning the fan vote doesn’t guarantee induction, all of the artists who have won it since its introduction in 2012 have gone on to receive the honor.

“Let’s not get too excited,” Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott told Ultimate Classic Rock recently. “The nomination in one thing, being inducted is another. Essentially, it’s worth one-thousandth of the entire vote, so it’s not worth a great deal numerically speaking. … The other 999 [voters] have got no option but to take notice of it.”

    1. Let It Go

… And later on, my Stevie Nicks top 20… Just kidding! 😉

    1. Pretty good list Doug.
I’d replace “Hello America” with “Now”, “On through the Night” with “Women”, and “Me & My Wine” with “Die Hard the Hunter” (Steve’s finest moment). I’d also put “Another Hit and Run” a lot higher, maybe even #1.

    2. no lets get rocked? .. song is like eruption or run to the hills? .. you hear it come on and you blast it so the cars behind you hear it?

    3. Brother Doug! Your #1 would be my #1! And I love that the song” Me and My Wine” made your list! That’s a great, ‘under the radar” tune. Another great ‘under the radar’ song that would make my list would be “No No No”. I love the fast tempo of that song!

    4. Thank you, brother Rattle!
Tom, I like “Let’s Get Rocked,” mostly the music, and the chorus, but the lyrics are just a little bit too juvenile for me.

  2. I’m not even gonna read that Doug…lol ….but here’s a question: Three Lock Box v. Standing Hampton; really two different records, I like both; but I have to go with Three Lock Box; “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy,” that ‘s the song Van Halen should’ve put in their set; then you get that Tubes sounding song on side two. Of course, “Remember the Heroes,” which you mentioned the other day…fantastic song.

🙂 Oh boy is this a huge win-win for Dana….lol….her band gets in and her Bohemian ragaumffin doesn’t….

    1. Both are great, great albums, but I’d have to go with Standing Hampton. Sammy gave us 2 of the greatest Rock anthems of all time – “There’s Only One Way To Rock,” and of course, “Heavy Metal!”

    2. I knew you would say that Doug….those two songs are solid rockers but Three Lock Box has a bit more snap crackle and pop if you get what I’m sayin’. Sammy should be in there as a solo artist if you ask me…I don’t know, the whole thing is kind of hard for me to get my mind around….I talked to Glen Hughes and he is very proud to be in there…as far as he’s concerned that is proof he really made it. Hard to say, but Sammy’s got a ton of money…lol…so he probably ain’t losing any sleep over it.

    3. Shannon, “I’ll Fall In Love Again,” and “Baby’s On Fire” are what slightly tip the scale for me. You can’t go wrong with either album, actually, you can’t go wrong with any of Sammy’s albums, especially from the 70’s and 80’s! And he definitely should be in the HOF as a solo artist as well!!

  3. I dig Fleetwood Mac but I just dont see how Stevie Nicks’ is HOF worthy as a solo artist. I know she did well early on, but the HOF should be the best of the best, and her solo work certainly isnt that imo. Maybe she’s getting a ton of votes because the list was so weak this year?

    1. I think most of the votes are for her first 2 solo albums, “Bella Donna,” and “The Wild Heart,” which are each about as good as an album can be! IMO.

    2. jason, you’re preaching to the choir. steve’s 1st 2 solo albums are very good, but c’mon! it’s all the usual hof politics at work. does anyone remember when sting was nominated as a solo artist? puhleez! i love the zombies and todd made some great music, but def leppard is armed with a catalogue of hits. thanks to eddie playing whatever the f he wants (not the hits), i’ve been exposed to their great album tracks. i’ve been adrenalized!

    3. Rolling Stone named Stevie Nicks one of the greatest singers & songwriters of all time, one of the few times I agree with Rolling Stone Magazine 100%.

    4. Sorry to say, but I have very little respect for Rolling Stone, they have never supported hard rock/metal, hence why these bands are largely overlooked for induction.

It is only done after other artists (like Lars Ulrich with Deep Purple), or the fans, complain, that they will actually be proactive about putting hard rock/metal bands up for nomination, and then, it usually only for the fan vote.

So, therefore, I am not surprised that they fawn all over Nicks.

    5. Well, that’s why I said this is one of the few times I agree with them. I know what they think about hard rock and metal, but that doesn’t take away from their assessment of Stevie Nicks.
