BrianJohnson AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson posted a news update on his car-racing website by writing that he would need to take a break from his U.K. TV series Cars That Rock in the near future due to “the slight distraction of my day job with AC/DC.” Adding, “It looks very likely that we will be on the road again before the end of the year….Stand by for more music.”

Back in April of this year, the band made an official announcement that it would be moving forward on a new album without one of its founding members, rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who would be “taking a break from the band due to ill health.”

  1. Malcolm is irreplaceable both on record and live. His rhythm guitar tone and style is at the heart of the AC/DC sound. They toured once without him and that was wrong to do as much as the idea of recording without him now is. I wonder if they’ve chosen to record without him because they can’t wait for him to get well or if he’s much more ill than we’ve been told? Either way, the most important thing is for Malcolm to get healthy and get back to rocking!

    1. It was not a mistake; I saw that tour, and it was excellent.

Love these people that think they know what is right for the band. How about letting the band decide and be done with it? These are not wallflowers; Angus is a strongwilled guy, as is Malcolm, as is Brian. They will do what is right for THEM. I think was I in Malcolm’s spot (and I admit I am not) I would much prefer they go on, so I didn’t have to live with the idea that I was the reason that AC/DC called it a day.

  2. Although im not a huge fan, I dont think they need to do a new album…just tour and play the hits u know? AC/DC may be an exception but for the most part, the new stuff these ol bands put out is crap and doesnt hold up with their classics..as far as record obligations, I cant see them being obligated to record anything..

    1. I thought rock and roll train was a decent new song. I’m interested to hear the new album.

  3. A lot of people don’t know it, but Malcolm is responsible for writing most of the iconic riffs that everyone associates with AC/DC.He was the QB of the band/leader so to speak. So I don’t know how this will work out. They’ve been doing it for so long that they can do it on autopilot I’m sure, but for anyone that’s had the pleasure of seeing them live, they don’t work that way. They’re all out, each and every time. I saw them on their Back In Black and For Those About To Rock tours, and they were 2 of the best shows I’ve ever been to. So I’m with Joe on this,in that maybe they should wait it out for Malcolm. They certainly can’t need the money…..

    1. You and Joe should both be quiet. This isn’t ‘ACDC Fact or Fiction’ with Gary and Joe. Joe has already spewed enough fiction with his post above. We don’t need anymore. Thanks also for the history lesson on Malcolm’s contributions to the band.

    2. DR: My cat told me to tell you that “yoo iz a fuddy duddy” and wants to know if you haz cheeseburger for him. Also, I am the master of all music knowledge, and you should actually be grateful toward me for being such. Thank you and have the opposite of a bad day.
