SLAYER’S KERRY KING SAID THIS YEAR’S “MAYHEM FESTIVAL” WAS NOT “BOOKED CORRECTLY”

kerryling400 While Slayer is currently on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, the festival’s co-founder Kevin Lyman recently stated that metal “chased girls away” because the genre “got gray, bald and fat.

When Slayer guitarist Kerry King was asked by Metal Insider to comment on Lyman’s statement, he said, “It’s a very generalizing statement and it basically throws his tour under the bus. That’s just… that’s not even Business 101. That’s just insane.”

King went on to criticize this year’s Mayhem line-up, saying, “Do I know this tour wasn’t booked correctly? Absolutely I know this tour wasn’t booked correctly. [Slayer and Exodus guitarist] Gary Holt made the comment that usually there’s the Main Stage, a second stage, a third stage, and then that piece-of-shit record stage… Now what they’re calling a second stage is at best a fourth stage and they’re wondering why people aren’t showing up.”

He continued, “I think they waited too long and think all the talent that could have been on this took gigs in Europe. Because there’s nobody here touring. It’s easy to fill these stages, but I guess they wanted a different price point, take away the second and third stage which I think had a lot of value. To me, a second-stage headliner is Anthrax, Machine Head…Whoever booked this made a gigantic error.”

When asked if he felt Slayer was carrying this year’s Mayhem Festival more so than in previous years, King said, “[Without the extra stages] it’s basically a glorified Slayer show…Let me put it to you this way: last year, Slayer, Suicidal [Tendencies] and Exodus played the Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee and sold it out. Mayhem came through ten days ago and didn’t sell it out. That’s what I’m going up against here…I understand it from a fan’s perspective. I wouldn’t spend money to come to this either.”

When questioned if this would be Slayer’s last time on the Mayhem tour, King stated, “This might be the last time you see Mayhem.”

Slayer’s forthcoming album, Repentless, will be released on September 11th. Watch a video for the title track, here.

AC/DC DRUMMER PHIL RUDD ORDERED TO UNDERGO RANDOM DRINK AND DRUG TESTS

New Zealand AC/DC Phil Rudd Paul Chapman of The Telegraph reports:

Former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd must undergo random testing for drugs and alcohol after allegedly being caught drinking while serving a home detention sentence in New Zealand.

Rudd, 61, was arrested at his luxury waterfront mansion in the North Island city of Tauranga at the weekend, and spent Sunday night behind bars.

He appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Monday, accused of breaching a condition of his home detention prohibiting the possession and consumption of alcohol.

The Australian-born rocker, dressed in a white polo shirt, stood expressionless in the dock as he was granted bail until August 3rd.

His lawyer Craig Tuck entered no plea to the charge, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail or a NZ$2,000 ($1293.51 US dollars) fine.

Mr. Tuck did not oppose a new condition requested by a probation officer that Rudd should be subject to random drug and alcohol testing when required by police.

Police did not oppose Rudd’s release on bail.

As he was escorted from the court, Rudd gesticulated at waiting media before ordering an associate to “gimme the key” and getting into the driving seat of a waiting Jaguar saloon.

Rudd’s arrest came a little over a week after he was convicted and sentenced to eight months’ home detention for threatening to kill an employee, and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.

At the time, Judge Thomas Ingram warned him he would go to prison if he breached the terms of his sentence.

“I stone cold guarantee that’s where you’ll end up,” the judge told him then.

Rudd has since lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence.

AFTER BEING SENTENCED TO EIGHT MONTHS HOME DETENTION, AC/DC DRUMMER PHIL RUDD ARRESTED AGAIN

philrudd400 Reuters is reporting that AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been arrested in New Zealand where he lives just 10 days after being sentenced to home detention, media reported on Sunday.

Rudd, who on July 10th was sentenced to eight months home detention after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and possession of drugs, is being held in custody in New Zealand, the Australian Associated Press reported, citing his lawyer, Craig Tuck.

The 61-year-old musician will appear in court in Tauranga district on Monday morning, the news agency said.

Police declined to confirm the arrest or comment on the charge, the AAP said.

The arrest is the latest blow to the rock musician who was unable to join AC/DC for their 2015 Rock or Bust tour due to legal problems.

He was arrested last November and charged with attempting to procure a murder, threatening to kill and possession of drugs. The charge of trying to procure murder was withdrawn because of a lack of evidence.

The threat was to an employee involved in the unsuccessful launch of his solo album.

As part of his sentence Rudd was being electronically monitored at his mansion in the seaside city of Tauranga, about 200 km (125 miles) southeast of Auckland.

Australian-born Rudd has lived in New Zealand since he was dimissed from the band in 1983. He rejoined AC/DC in 1994.

BON JOVI TO RELEASE SPECIAL FAN ALBUM IN AUGUST

bonjovinorichie640 Michele Amabile Angermiller of Billboard reports:

Bon Jovi is releasing a special fan album leading up to its overseas fall tour, Billboard has learned.

The band is releasing two new tracks not even one month before the August 21st release of their new album, Burning Bridges.

A spokesperson for Bon Jovi tells Billboard, “Burning Bridges, which will be released August 21st, is an album for fans and will accompany an upcoming international tour. The band is hard at work on their next album, which will see a full-scale release in 2016.”

The first track, We Don’t Run, is written by Jon Bon Jovi and Grammy-winning producer John Shanks. An anthem in the Bon Jovi tradition, the tune features meaty production and a shredding guitar solo by Shanks. Shanks has a long history with the band, having produced What About Now, The Circle, Lost Highway and Have a Nice Day.

The second, Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning, is a happier, more romantic, bright pop song with a hooky chorus featuring the lyrics “Saturday night gave me Sunday morning/ Opened my eyes and it’s a new day dawning/ Think I might have pushed my luck a time or two/ Everything about us is what gets me through.” It’s classic Bon Jovi and sure to inspire a big sing-along on the road.

Credited to Jon Bon Jovi, John Shanks and former guitarist Richie Sambora, the song — released internationally on July 16 — was written previous to Sambora’s departure from the group.
