TRIUMPH’S GIL MOORE DISCUSSES “ALLIED FORCES” 35 YEARS LATER

Jeb Wright of Classic Rock Revisited spoke with Triumph drummer/vocalist, Gil Moore. Portions of the interview appear below.

Jeb: Allied Forces is 35 years old this year. I was listening to it one day recently and I looked at the date and I was like… oh my God, where did the time go? Are you guys going to do anything special to celebrate or just let it slide by?

Gil: We might just let it slide by. You’re the first person that’s brought it up, so I should talk to Mike about it and say, “Hey, what are we going to do?”

Jeb: I was hoping you would tell me you were going to play together for the anniversary!

Gil: You never know, something like that might happen, I don’t mean like a tour or anything, but I just mean, maybe for some charitable cause or something, playing a track or two wouldn’t be a bad idea. I mean it’s easy for Rik because his chops are great. He actually plays guitar better now than he ever has in his whole life, he just keeps getting better. So, it would just be a case of Mike and me rehearsing and learning a couple of songs and stuff. I’m the one who’s really the hold-back because I’m so busy with Metalworks stuff. We’ll see, it might happen…

Jeb: How did you decide -and you’ve been asked this probably for 35 years since the album- how did you guys decide who was going to sing which song?

Gil: We just kind of fell into it naturally. Anything that was bluesy went to me, and anything that was more major key or high pitched went to Rik.

Occasionally we’d make mistakes. I’d sing a song that he probably should have sung or vice versa, but most of the time I think we got it right.

Some of Rik’s vocals were unbelievable, like the vocal in Fight the Good Fight for example, to me that was… I think if somebody says to me, “What was the best Rik Emmitt vocal of all time?” I’d be going, well there are a lot of them. Fight the Good Fight was one. Blinding Light Show was another.

He’s got some vocals that I don’t think the songs suited him. A lot of the songs that I did suited me. That’s the trouble for every vocalist…

METALLICA’S DELUXE EDITION OF “HARDWIRED…TO SELF DESTRUCT” WILL INCLUDE COVER SONGS AND LIVE MUSIC

Metallica have posted the following message about their forthcoming album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, on their official website:

“Guess what?!? It’s DONE! We have put the finishing touches on our next album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, and are looking forward to the next phase of unleashing it to the world, waking the monster that is Metallica and hitting the road. As we were in the 11th hour of wrapping it up it dawned on us that we have never shared with you in any sort of cohesive “official” manner the extensive covers we have worked on since Death Magnetic. While digging into the bonus options to compliment the 12-song album with additional material, we realized that none of our versions of these songs from some of our favorite and most respected artists have been readily available on our very own Blackened Recordings. So with that said, we’re here to tell you about some changes we’ve made to the deluxe versions of Hardwired… in place of the previously announced Riff Origins.

The 2016 version of Lords of Summer from the studio in its full glory as originally promised is still included, but now we’ve added the Ronnie Rising Medley, originally only available only on the Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life tribute album, along with the Iron Maiden cover of Remember Tomorrow rounded out by Deep Purple’s When A Blind Man Cries. And by the way all of these tracks have been recently re-mastered for optimum 2016 sound quality. Just for fun (and because there was room!) the special set we did at Rasputin’s in Berkeley, CA on Record Store Day 2016 to celebrate the reissues of Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning is here all re-mixed and mastered.”

Hardwired…To Self-Destruct is scheduled to be released on November 18th. To read more about this release, and to watch a video for Hardwired, please click here.

BLACK SABBATH “THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION” TO BE RELEASED IN OCTOBER

A new Black Sabbath collection will be available in a crucifix-shaped vinyl package in November.

BMG will release Black Sabbath The Ultimate Collection on CD and digital formats on October 28th, with the limited-edition “crucified” 4LP heavyweight vinyl version available from November 18th.

The Ultimate Collection is curated in conjunction with the band and features 31 songs remastered by engineer Andy Pearce.

Black Sabbath are currently on their farewell The End world tour. The road trip comes to a close with two dates in their home city of Birmingham, UK, in February 2017.

On the prospect of Black Sabbath’s career coming to an end, frontman Ozzy Osbourne previously said, “We started off as four guys from Aston who had a dream, and it came true beyond our wildest dreams.

We were manipulated, ripped off, conned. We lost each other within each other. But. it’s great to have got this back just to end on a high note.”

Sabbath’s use of an inverted crucifix on the artwork for their self-titled debut album was described as a “promotional ploy” by former drummer Bill Ward recently.

Ward said, “I think there were some wise guys who deliberately put that together as a ploy – as an advertising, promotional ploy, or who had seriously misgauged us as a band.

There was no collaboration, so I don’t know who was responsible for it. I guess someone thought it would be a good idea and thought that was what we represented.”
