VANDENBERG’S MOONKINGS POST VIDEO FOR “WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU”

Vandenberg’s Moonkings releases a video for the song, What Doesn’t Kill You, watch it below.

The song is on the band’s new album, MK II, which will be released on November 3rd through the Mascot Label Group. To watch a video for the tune, Tightrope, please click here.

The last few years have been very important indeed,” confirms Adrian Vandenberg, who previously gained world fame as the guitarist and songwriter of Vandenberg and Whitesnake. “We just got to know each other when we recorded out debut album. I think we all exceeded each other’s expectations. But you really get to know each other while on the road. It was then that I really became impressed by the abundance of energy that this band has. We tried to capture this on our new album. At the same time, we all grew individually. I am really amazed by the way Jan Hoving has grown even more in his role as a singer and as a frontman. I’ve played with the best bass players and drummers in my extensive career, but, with all respect, I dare to say that Sem Christoffel and drummer Mart Nijen Es form the best rhythm section I ever had the pleasure of working with.”

“The fantastic response to our debut received also gave us a major boost,” said Adrian. “We felt confident to loosen things up quite a bit. Sem and Mart really go for it of at the end of ‘The Fire’. Previously, I would have called for a fade-out in the mix, but this time we decided to keep it and put it on the record. It somehow reminded me of the ’70s Cream and Led Zeppelin jam sessions that nobody seems to do anymore these days. I allowed myself to rip all over the end section of If You Can’t Handle The Heat. I’ve always found that as a guitar player you should be able to tell a story in about twenty seconds, so this time it was great to break this rule for a change and let myself go completely. Never before in my career I have done this on an album. All in all, working on this album was a wonderful experience. The notorious ‘second album syndrome’ never reared its ugly head.”

The release of MK II will be supported with club tours and appearances on festivals worldwide. “I’ve been a professional musician for over forty years, but I am still as eager as I have always been and still have the feeling that I’m just getting started,” added Adrian. “I am convinced that we have many good years ahead with this band.”

NEW BOOK CLAIMS THAT AC/DC FRONTMAN BON SCOTT DIED FROM A HEROIN OVERDOSE, NOT ALCOHOL POSIONING

Scott Munro of Classic Rock reports:

Jesse Fink, the author of a new book about AC/DC’s Bon Scott claims that the singer died as a result of heroin and not alcohol poisoning.

Bon: The Last Highway: The Untold Story Of Bon Scott And AC/DC’s Back In Black is out today (November 1st), through Black & White Publishing, and examines Scott’s life and the final hours before his death in East Dulwich, London, in 1980.

Fink, who also wrote The Youngs: The Brothers Who Built AC/DC, challenges the widely held belief that Scott died after a night of heavy drinking in the city’s Music Machine club…

…He credits the work that Geoff Barton carried out for his groundbreaking piece on Bon Scott for Classic Rock in 2005, where the journalist brought to light new information about the mystery surrounding Scott’s death by interviewing UFO pair Paul Chapman and Pete Way.

Fink re-interviewed Chapman and Way for the book, tracked down other key figures including Scott’s former girlfriend Margaret ‘Silver’ Smith, and uncovered new information with regard to what happened between Scott and Alistair Kinnear leaving the club and the singer being found dead in a car outside Kinnear’s flat the following day.

Fink tells Classic Rock, “I spoke to both Chapman and Way for many hours, going over the sequence of events that Barton had laid out in his piece for Classic Rock. And what I discovered, the deeper I looked into it, was that Chapman and Way’s stories actually held up when it came to important, substantive details.

Silver Smith and Joe Fury didn’t deny that Chapman was phoned with the news Bon was dead, and that Chapman then called Way to get a number for AC/DC.”

Fink continues, “The difficult part was reconciling Chapman and Way’s stories with the accounts of Joe, Silver and Kinnear, all of whom had their own versions of what took place between when Bon decided he was leaving his flat in Westminster on the night of February 18th, 1980, to when he was pronounced dead on arrival at King’s College Hospital the following evening. The time-lines were all over the place.

So the truth of what happened to Bon was in there somewhere, lost in this jumble of conflicting details and contradictions. It was a long, very involved process trying to make sense of all.”

He adds, “Then there was a breakthrough in my own investigation, involving Peter Perrett’s wife, Zena Kakoulli, who said she went with Bon and Alistair to East Dulwich after they’d left The Music Machine – she was inside Alistair’s apartment when Bon was in the car outside – and an eyewitness at the club who saw Bon ‘stoned’ on what this person clearly believed was heroin.

That cast a whole new light on my interpretation of events. Clive Edwards, the drummer of Wild Horses, also told me Silver was at Jimmy Bain’s house snorting heroin when she got the call on the evening of the 19th to come to the hospital – not at home, as she claimed.

In the end, I think I provided enough new information to show that Bon died from heroin and not from alcohol poisoning. The police investigation and the coroner’s inquest were substandard.”

The full interview along with the cover story featuring excerpts from the new book along with an exclusive interview Fink carried out with Silver Smith before her death in December last year, can be found in the new issue of Classic Rock magazine, which is out on Friday.

STRYPER ANNOUNCE THEIR NEW BASSIST, PERRY RICHARDSON

After months of speculation, multi-platinum rock band Stryper is excited to announce the addition of iconic bass player Perry Richardson to the band lineup. Richardson joins original members Michael Sweet (vocals and guitar), Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar), all of whom are currently in pre-production on their upcoming album due in 2018 from Frontiers Music SRL.

The bass player position became available following last year’s highly successful 30th Anniversary To Hell With The Devil Tour, which saw record crowds and featured Stryper’s largest sound and lighting production in nearly two decades. Perry becomes only the 3rd bass player to fill that slot in the band’s 34 year career.

Richardson is best-known as a founding member of the multi-platinum band Firehouse, who exploded onto the scene in the early 1990s with hit singles like Don’t Treat Me Bad, Love of a Lifetime and When I Look Into Your Eyes. In 1992, the band took home an American Music Award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist, beating out both Nirvana and Alice In Chains. Since departing Firehouse, Richardson has remained active touring with various artists including Trace Adkins and Craig Morgan.

“The first time I met the guys in Stryper was in 1985, when my first band, Maxx Warrior opened for them in Charlotte, NC,” says Richardson. “From that first meeting, they have always been one of my favorite bands and a huge influence on me personally and musically. To have the honor of becoming a member of Stryper today, is an indescribable experience for me. I am so overwhelmed I can’t put it into words. To be asked to be a member of one of my favorite all-time bands is one of the greatest honors of my career. I’m so looking forward to being a part of this next chapter in Stryper’s legacy. I’m ready to rock the world with my new brothers.”

“Perry is a perfect fit within our band,” adds Stryper frontman Michael Sweet. “He’s an amazing singer, an excellent bass player and just a great human being. The moment we first rehearsed with Perry we knew that it was right. We sang harmonies and the vocals sounded awesome. He shared stories of how Stryper was one of his favorite bands and that he’s always respected us. It meant a lot to hear him say that. He has brought a kind and humble spirit to the band. He is a professional and an absolute gentleman. His resume is quite extensive and as impressive as it gets. We’re honored to have him on our team and we’re extremely excited about the future.”

Original, and now former, bassist Tim Gaines’ departure from the band was less than amicable. Gaines said, “all hell broke loose” after he “ended up getting a divorce, which is taboo as far as Christianity, I guess.”

Stryper countered with their own statement declaring, “The accusations that have been made that our decision to terminate Tim is based on his divorce couldn’t be further from the truth…The band decided to take a hiatus in order to give Tim time and space to work through his personal issues. However, based on Tim’s…intentional, erratic and hostile behavior, which has damaged Stryper and threatened to undermine the band’s ability to go forward professionally, we were left with no other choice but to part ways. Tim…have left their scars and have hurt us in more ways than you can imagine.”
