According to blabbermouth.net, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has defended KISS’ Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for their announcement that no members of KISS will be playing at the April 10th Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn.
Speaking to Rover’s Morning Glory, a syndicated hot-talk/comedy radio show airing weekday mornings on Cleveland rock station WMMS (100.7 FM), Ian joked, “Look, I’ve got Gene Simmons tattooed on my leg, so whatever Gene says is what goes.”
He continued, “I’m a [KISS] fan, just like everyone else, and would I wanna see, if I was going… I’m not going to the Hall Of Fame thing, so would I wanna see the four original dudes back in makeup one more time? Of course I would, as a fan. But bands don’t do things dictated by what the audience wants. A band would last about a year if that’s how you worked. You have to do things the way you wanna do them.
KISS has been around for 40 years and are bigger now than they were in 1977 because Gene and Paul make smart decisions — that’s why. So, as a fan, and if you love them, you have to abide by the decisions that Gene and Paul are making for their brand and their band. So, why people get so upset over these things, I really don’t understand. Like, if they decided they were playing with [current KISS members] Tommy [Thayer, guitar] and Eric [Singer, drums], so fine. That’s what they’re doing. This is their band. This has been the lineup for a long time now.
I get it — those two guys [Tommy and Eric] aren’t the guys who are getting into the Hall Of Fame [with Paul and Gene], it’s Ace and Peter… you know, I get it. So I think they made the right decision now by saying, ‘We’re just not gonna play. You can’t please everybody. We’re just gonna shut it down and just not do it.’ I get it. I understand.”

Agree with you Ed,
Seen kiss nearly every time they have played in Sydney (except 1980 tour)…only time they sold more than one night was during 97 tour (played two shows in Sydney early February and 3 in Melbourne ..I was at all five), and recently with the Crüe co-headline tour… Second night Sydney was 3/4 full…
Sorry guys, love KISS but they are sadly a nostalgia act now…Paul’s voice is done, Gene pretty much stands in one spot (hips gone?!)… The Godzilla days are long gone… Gene has lost any humility he ever had and Paul plays ‘hollier than thou’ with everyone …ace and peter in makeup again? ..’no way’ he said…wouldn’t it have better for him to come clean and explain to the fans the real reason that he doesn’t think the makeup gig would work and why ( not the spin crap they have fed us)….but more importantly to tell the fans, explicitly that they understand this is very important to KUSS fans worldwide, so they will find a middle ground so that everyone can look back in years to come and smile about ‘that great night that the original superheroes rocks like no one else can’..
…face it, they are in their 60’s….the HOF would have been a great time to say ‘thank you and goodnight ‘ to a long and debate filled career…
Lastly ..If gene and Paul were so confident with kiss v.239, then why wouldn’t they take the time to sit and have an adult discussion with Eddie..if Lars can take constructive feedback then surely Gene and Paul could too?..
Another Eddie Trunk Kiss Obsessed Post
Perhaps I should just ignore a huge story I broke on my show with my audience? Thanks for reading!
KISS annoy the hell out of me now, they have driven this band into the Ground Gene and Paul, Pauls voice has gone , I can’t watch any more of this circus.
Can you watch anymore of this PSYCHO CIRCUS?
Face it, Kiss hasnt been big since 1984, Lick it Up., Vinnie Vincent saved them, his riffs
Listen to the Lick it up. album,. way much better than current stuff, heavy stuff,
and even Revenge., Vinnie helped, Kiss is a Legacy band, and a money machine
since we been in the download Age. bands are not being a creative, as they could be
cause they know people will just download there work, They lose money.
Most of the Good metal today is in Europe, American metal is Dead and buried,
Kiss will never be as big as they were in the 70’s. Anyone who believes that must have either not been alive yet or believing anything Gene or Paul throws at them. Any true Kiss fan knows better than that. Tommy and Eric in the makeup is wrong and they should have found new personas like Eric Carr did.
I agree with Razor Ramone. But tell me, how many ‘big bands’ from the 70’s are as big today? Not many really, save AD/DC, Sabbath (no Bill Ward comments please), and a few others. Poor choice of words by Scott. On a different note, I will say that Anthrax’s last album was killer. So good to have Belladonna back in that band.
Ouch! You know who else was a very good SABBATH drummer? Mr. Eric Singer. THE ETERNAL IDOL features terrific drum work by him. Check out NIGHTMARE. He sounds great on that song. Bill Ward, oh by the way is the best………………….. I gotta stay quiet ’cause I backed-up the CATMAN previously and I gotta be consistent. Ward, Criss and Singer as well as Phil Rudd are all top drummers. Love their work. Also Artemis Pyle and Roger Taylor are not too shabby. NEVER SAY DIE is mediocore save for that drummer who was so good……….What’s his name?
I totally forgot that Singer was in Sabbath and I agree on Idol. Too bad for Eric and this conundrum he walked into, for he is a very good drummer. But he won’t go down that way. He’s gotta stop singing Black Diamond though. I’m not a Pete Crisscola fan, but that wreaks of blasphemy. If they’ve gotta do that song, it should be Paul or Gene singing that part. But Paul can’t sing anymore. So I guess that leaves the Demon singing it which could prove interesting. I prefer Gene’s voice over Paul’s anyways. Please no rants on Paul and Gene in response to this. Richman and I are just catching up on things.
