ANTHRAX GUITARIST SCOTT IAN DEFENDS KISS’ DECISION NOT TO PLAY AT THE ROCK N’ ROLL HALL OF FAME CEREMONY

scottian650 According to blabbermouth.net, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has defended KISS’ Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons for their announcement that no members of KISS will be playing at the April 10th Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn.

Speaking to Rover’s Morning Glory, a syndicated hot-talk/comedy radio show airing weekday mornings on Cleveland rock station WMMS (100.7 FM), Ian joked, “Look, I’ve got Gene Simmons tattooed on my leg, so whatever Gene says is what goes.”

He continued, “I’m a [KISS] fan, just like everyone else, and would I wanna see, if I was going… I’m not going to the Hall Of Fame thing, so would I wanna see the four original dudes back in makeup one more time? Of course I would, as a fan. But bands don’t do things dictated by what the audience wants. A band would last about a year if that’s how you worked. You have to do things the way you wanna do them.

KISS has been around for 40 years and are bigger now than they were in 1977 because Gene and Paul make smart decisions — that’s why. So, as a fan, and if you love them, you have to abide by the decisions that Gene and Paul are making for their brand and their band. So, why people get so upset over these things, I really don’t understand. Like, if they decided they were playing with [current KISS members] Tommy [Thayer, guitar] and Eric [Singer, drums], so fine. That’s what they’re doing. This is their band. This has been the lineup for a long time now.

I get it — those two guys [Tommy and Eric] aren’t the guys who are getting into the Hall Of Fame [with Paul and Gene], it’s Ace and Peter… you know, I get it. So I think they made the right decision now by saying, ‘We’re just not gonna play. You can’t please everybody. We’re just gonna shut it down and just not do it.’ I get it. I understand.”

  1. Scott Ian saying, “Kiss are bigger now than they were in 1977” might just get the prize for the most ridiculous news statement ever reported on this site. The only thing he could possibly be referring to is their product licensing that would have to rival Disney at this point since Gene has put the Kiss logo on just about everything humanly imaginable. The irony of all this is Gene wouldn’t even have that logo to slap on everything if it wasn’t for Ace designing it in the first place (and for the record Gene, Paul tracing around it doesn’t make it his). From a band perspective and concert draw, Scott’s statement is as misguided as his tattooing – nothing against the Young brothers, but I mean come on now.

  2. Kiss used to be my all time favorite but I have taken enough bull from Gene. When Sonic Boom came out the same time as Ace’s Anomaly, Ace’s album was way better. I really don’t see Gene and Paul’s statement about Doing it for the the fans. They hate Ace & Peter because of past dug and alcohol use and feel that they will always be this way. I think about time for Kiss to get into their kiss coffin and call it a Day. Just get up stage accept the award and get the recognition they ALL deserve. We got the best and I rather see Kiss go down with dignity and not this awful mess and hooky imposters. Cause if Gene and Paul are the only on e on stage to accept the award without Peter and Ace I would put it past the Kiss army to give them the middle finger an d a thanks for nothing.

  3. Kiss is bigger than ever and I’m glad they still tour. When their gone there’s nothing to take their place no other new bands compare with stage show or staying power. Paul and Gene is Kiss and that’s a fact no matter who’s playing beside them

    1. Bigger than ever bands don’t Co-Headline tours. Entitled to your opinion but it is factually wrong! ’96 four nights at MSG with no name support. Now co-headline with Motley on shed tours. Like what you want but please just keep it real.

    2. No Eddie, you need to keep it real. KISS didn’t co-headline with Motley Crue, the Crue opened for them. Not in sheds like you claim either. You never waste an opportunity to talk crap about them do you? Boo boo, someone else is in Ace’s make up. It’s been like this for 12 years now. Quite whining like a little bitch and get over it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and speak their minds, but you do it so much that you seem to be on some sort of personal agenda to get others to think like you do. Like you want everyone to hate the current KISS as much as you do. This is why I don’t watch That Metal Show anymore. I use to look forward to it but now you have become like this bitter fan who holds grudges against any band that doesn’t do what you want. Kind of like a little girl who had her heart crushed and now set out to destroy her ex. Your rants are so childish I wonder maybe if you would be better off being a Justin Beiber fan. For this is the kind of behavior I would expect from little teenage girls. I’m just glad that Paul and Gene don’t fall for your crap and respond to your nonsense. And I applaud Scott for what he said . Nice to see someone who respects other bands decisions even if he would rather them do it another way. Maybe you could learn from this Eddie.

    3. I am so sorry for having an honest opinion on things. It is great that they have people impersonate others. The band has never sounded better. Monster was the best Kiss album (until the next one). Kiss has never been bigger. That work good for you? Be sure to take all objectivity out so you are more comfortable. And since you are CLUELESS about music industry terminology “Sheds” are the name for outdoor amphitheaters that they DO play in the US. Not an arena, they are called ‘sheds” in the business. And it was a CO HEADLINE. Someone has to close a show but all the money is split 50/50. I’m sure Kiss decided just to do that because they felt like giving half away.. but you have it all figured out huh?

    4. Hey Eddie what band comes to mind that you saw when u were scouting talent that you thought would for sure make it but didn’t? Anybody stand out that today you still shake ur head and wonder what happened to them? And if yes. What’s the name if the band?

    5. How many times are you going to repeat the same misinformation? The Tour was a co-headline for marketing purposes only. LiveNation paid KISS DOUBLE what MC received. Not 50/50. Talk to some REAL sources!

    6. Really? Okay, you believe what you want. That’s why all the billing and ad sizes were the same? If your logic is correct then I assume Aerosmith was paid double from Kiss when Kiss opened shows on that co-headline?

    7. Aerosmith/KISS in 2003 was different. Financially, the guarantees/gate were split 50/50. KISS/MC 2012 was 67/33. Billed and marketed as a co-headline to maximize MC sales. Check with LN.

    8. ANDREW!!! Dude you are so Gene and Paul’s Bitch!! Eddie is doing a great job reporting what’s going on in KISS. Just keep spending your money on fake KISS and on ego maniacs. I’m a lifelong KISS freak and Im done with them now. To dis-respect us the fans and Ace and Peter this way. We fans are far from being the bosses as Gene had said countless times. He’s full of shit saying that. Paul and Gene will never get another dime from me. Ace and Peter have way more class than Gene and Paul. That’s for sure and really do care about the fans. So Andrew just go away if you don’t like what Eddie has to say man. You sure as hell don’t have to be on here. Go in Kissonline. Oh that’s right u can’t even post ur thoughts in there. Lay off ours n Eddie you Douche Bag!!!

    9. Eddie is so right on what should be painfully obvious to everyone at this point. The only thing bigger about Kiss now beyond the overkill merchandising are Gene and Paul’s waistlines. To put another perspective on the asinine “Kiss are bigger now” theory. Imagine if the current lineup (Gene, Paul, Tommy, and Eric) were to all release Kiss solo albums in 2014 as they did in 1978 and how that would go over? The next Jack Russell’s Great White album would seem like a smash hit compared to what Tommy and Eric’s albums would sell combined. Then there’s picturing the current lineup doing a movie for network television as they did in ’78. The present day Kiss would be doing good if they could get a contract for a movie, much less having it aired on primetime television. Regardless of how bad Kiss Meets The Phantom may be, it was the second most watched thing on television in ’78. Only a mini-series that had been running that year had more viewers. The extent of Kiss’ primetime tv potential now days are late night talk shows. The only people that are going to be believe Kiss is bigger now are those either on Paul and Gene’s payroll or 12 year olds that saw the Crue co-headline with them on the Monster tour… and at that, for the dozen or so songs that they played, one would think they could carry the show with material from just Sonic Boom and Monster rather than the original lineup songs that Gene and Paul inevitably rely on to save the day.

    10. I don’t agree Nic. I think Tommy’s versions of Rip it Out, New York Groove, + Snowblind would be killer.

  4. Eddie is correct, they HAD to get the Crue to co-headline. Foreigner/Styx/REO/Journey etc were 18,000 a night sell-outs in ’82…now they double up or triple up in indian casinos with most of the bands long gone. It’ll be Kiss festivals soon, get 5 bands, draw it all day.
